GSL Finals Mvp vs Squirtle Game 5 - Metropolis

All bases were taken, even the islands, 7 bases to 7, islands were PF'ed by MVP.
All kinds of unit composition, from standard MMM vs. Colossus deathball, to mass Ghost/BC vs Mothership Archon that game had EVERYTHING.

Here is the place to discuss what may be, the greatest game in Starcraft II history.

Excitement wise I think this was the best game I've ever seen.

Strategically I think that Leenock vs Jjakji Game 1 on Tal'Darim during the GSL finals is still a better game. The army movements are thinking from both players was basically the best in Starcraft 2 History.

With MVP 3-1 up I felt he just wanted to put on a show and starting making BCs for funsies, if not it would have become a very quick finals. It looked like he could just A-Move after he killed all the collosi or do that multi prong he has been doing so well (vikings go to main and kill probes while his army attacks front) but he dragged it out. I thought he was massively ahead the whole game from that point onwards.

The crowd was laughing at squirtle when he trapped half his army on the island and then started ferrying it back slowly with one shuttle. So like everyone felt Squirtle would not win the final battle and that archon toilet was just freaking amazing to see and the whole room exploded with cheers, the loudest i ever heard. it was amazing to be sitting there in that atmosphere, like in a football stadium and your favourite team scores the winning goal in extra time and the crowd goes wild!!!!!! man city anyone? haha anyway im a huge squirtle fanboy now, after his amazing holds in game 5 and 6. I felt he deserved to win after that but oh well, such small mistakes he made in the last game turned out to be the deciding factor for a lot of money.

Best game i've ever watched. I do think that it shouldn't have reached that point though, and agree wholeheartedly with nirvAnA.

mvp was definitely trying to win with bc's just to see if he could. He had no expectation to win that game. He didn't react at all when he lost it. It almost cost him the title, but that would have served him right.

Poor squirtle. He lost that last match because of one mis-rallied stalker at the end there, something he had been doing constantly throughout the entire GSL.

Its not a fan service. MVP said it in the interview that BCs are actually pretty good enmassed, he said he lost it because of miscontrol ( not emping the mothership/ not yamatoing it to death in time). Not spreading the BCs enough and stuff. Mass BCs + ghost are so OPed. But i guess overconfidence got into him after noticing that 20 supply of HT and archons stuck in an island

BC's are pretty decent vs protoss. There's no real reason why they should be getting vortexed when you have ghosts about, unless motherships get spell immunity next patch there's no reason why they can't get EMP'd. You'll note that squirtle was basically shitting himself when it came to fighting those BC's when he didn't have them in a vortex.

I really liked watching that game because it's like...

Ok, early game Terran is a good race. Mid game, Terran's a good race. Late game Terran is a terribly shitty race. Late-late game, Terran is a good race... probably. It's like this in TvZ and TvP, I think a lot of terrans gotta start exploring the late late game and going into late game doing something we don't really like to do; nothing. When terran sit behind a ton of Pforts and turn scv's into orbitals that 's a lot of supply freed up to make units. I've dabbled with it in TvP and it can win games you'd otherwise lose by just attacking when it's lategame and getting owned. What I liked about MVP's decision to go BC's isntead of just more bio is that it can still be very hard to attack even with the bigger army, but BC/ghost is very good at attacking. It's also something to do rather then just sit and float a bunch.

maybe not fan service. But it wasn't a serious game. When a player of mvp's caliber (and he's now officially the best sc2 player ever by results) misses several opportunities to close a game out easily, and lets it get to that stage where he's sacked all of his scv's for more battlecruisers....

you know that's not him trying his heart out. Even if it was just tactics to make him more relaxed and stuff for game 6.

Either way, 'twas awesome.

I gotta beg to differ with the opinion that MVP had clear opportunities to close the game out. Have you guys seen what happens when a Terran fights a protoss army thats sitting on 4-5 base, max upgrades, 20 gateways, far away from his mining/production facilities? I actually thought MVP's decision to do that unit combination was sick smart - I personally feel that he definitely lost due to miscontrolling that crucial fight.

TBH the BCs were a great idea, some better positioning and maybe some EMPs for a vortex would have won him the game.

As for the true genius - SQUIRTLE!

Why? i thought that going archon vortex was stupid idea. but infact it's so genius because BCs accelerate so slowly! If it wasn't for his amazing flank and that vortex MVP would have won.

Great game and it sure made everyone at barcraft go nuts.

Actually I feel like Battlecruisers was the correct late game transition because without them he'd have to have an army compositor that would get raped by storms all over the map. I saw Squirtle with a 10k bank and I knew he had something in mind, I actually thought he would be going carriers but that archon toilet + vrs was the most ******* amazing thing I've ever seen in my life.

I thought that DRG vs MMA game 7 of blizzard cup finals would be the most intense back and forth game ever but .... holy shit. DAT VORTEX

I sat upright squealing and laughing when that vortex popped! I thought only 2 archons got in but like 8 popped out and storm blanketed everything, feedbacks kicked in to boot and I was soo excited could not believe he managed to kill such a well upgraded army, especially with mvps impressive army supply lead. So hawt

If you missed out on the games and or don't have a superscription search in soku.com there all in there in Chinese. Only was I was able to watch it when I'm traveling.

As for the game, felt sorry for Squirtle in the first few games because I think his nerves got the better of him and I hated the last game. The rest of it was the most epic finals series I've seen come out of this game , dat vortex..... I'll be drinking to that again this weekend.
