My sons PC cost me less than what you guys spend on your accessories. Do you really think it makes a difference which mouse, keyboard, mousepad, ect. you are using?
Some mousepads are better than others. Some mousepads will last an extremely long time while also having a completely even surface that has a repeating, fine pattern. This helps the mouse tracking. But it really depends what you need to use your mouse for in the first place.

Yes I do think it makes a difference. The stuff I have atm is pretty crappy keyboard/mouse wise. I also want a good mic, so why not just get a headset.

And also, tbh, maybe I dont need a super deadly precise mouse. Its not like Im trying to be the best FPS sniper in the world, Im trying to play an RTS game. So Im now thinking away from getting the imperator. But I've changed my mind a million times throughout searching for gear that I want.

Im probably gonna get the deathadder instead now.

Im not sure that mouse weight is that important as much as whatever you are used to will become what you prefer. I think my mouse at home is the G5, but whatever model it is it comes with adjustable weights. Ive got it adjusted to its maximum :\

I actually bought a very, very, very light, sc-star (forget who) endorsed mouse over in Korea. The thing was like a feather in your hand, but it was very hard to control accurately. I guess, if anything, extra mouse weight helps precision at the cost of speed.

The Logitec gear (G5 mouse, G17 keyboard) have both been not only great gaming units, but durable as well. I bought both 3 motherboard upgrades ago - thats longevity for you, especially in context of being dragged to LANs regularly. I doubt they will need replacing for some years yet.

My mouse is a Razer Deathadder. I really like it because you can literally change every setting on the damn thing, and set hotkeys to the extra buttons.

Mouse pad is a Razer Goliathus.

My Keyboard is a SteelSeries Merc Stealth. Not much to say about this, but I do like it very much. Very comfortable...and shiny!

And the headset is a SteelSeries Siberia V2 Special Edition. Pretty cool because of the multi directional, retractable mic.

Not the most expensive set up I know. But they get the job done.

Oh, I also use a Steelseries gaming headset - the 7H. It is a very good unit, good sound, good mic, modular, replacable leads... HOWEVER if you are like me and tend to idly play with your mic cord, especially when just chilling and talking crap on vent, the lead connection into the headset itself is prone to come loose and cause a burst of headache inducing static for everyone who was listening to you talk at the time...

I've been considering changing my mouse, the Lachesis is pretty good though so just want to know how you feel the Lachesis compares to the Death Adder if you've had a chance to play with both.

The Razor mechanical keyboard is an OK keyboard, a good review of it up against the world's best mechanical keyboard can be found here: http://everdy1ng.blogspot.com/2010/0...lackwidow.html

Although hardware doesn't make a good player (my stats prove that), the feel of the mechanical keyboards is perfect for me. Although I wouldn't suggest it if you have to sit near other people as the keys are noticeably louder than mainstream keyboards.

keyboard - filco majestouch cherry mx blue 180sgd
mouse - razer diamondback 3g 45sgd
mousepad - razer exactmat 30-40sgd, back in the day, its old
speakers - cambridge soundworks 4.1 ??
headset - steelseries 5vh2 100+
microphone - audio technica AT2020 130sgd

keyboard: the filco is bang for the buck. worth every penny. i prefer blue to brown, the way it types. if you can live with the clicking, it'll be fine. brown is the silent version, but the touch is inferior, my opinion

mouse: used a diamondback plasma limited edition previously but that broke, so i decided to continue using the diamondback style mice because I was used to its contouring. copperheads and the later mice have like higher arches and it was less comfortable, so I've stuck to an old school model/shape

mousepad: discontinued razer mousepad, its metallic, and serves as my coaster as well. lol.

speakers: bloody brilliant speakers that have been with me for >10 years. still awesome. still totally functional, came with a creative PC a long long time ago. satellites are made of natural lodestone I believe. so they're bloody long lasting, heavy/dense and don't feel flimsy and crappy like new computer monitor speakers.

headset: bought this to play MMORPGs, the mic is suboptimal, pickup is poor. sound on the other hand is perfectly fine. there's some head 3D positional audio thing which I turned off because I think its a bunch of bollocks. you can't really do 3d positional audio on Stereo.

microphone: well I cast games, and record music, so the AT2020 is a dual investment. its a USB cardoid condenser mic, fuss free, and very well constructed and picks up sound great with exceptionally good voice clarity. unless you intend to go pro, like cut demos and stuff, i'm sure it'll suffice for every single SC2 need.

Being pretty specific now, what is the mic like on the steelseries siberia v2? I know its multi-directional and I've heard its decent, but how clearly can you actually hear someone's voice?

Also, any casters with advice for headsets or mics with good clarity? I dont need something that picks up every time someone takes a step in my room, though.

i haven't used the siberia v2 before so I can't comment on the mic. but if its anything like the steelseries 5vh2 mic, then i'll say its totally not optimal

the problem with these mics, especially when casting, is that there's only one small sound hole, so you're more prone to get the voice pops when pronouncing your B and P sounds.

the 5vh2 mic imho is the same quality as those 3-5dollar PC mics that are small and flimsy and come free with your PCs and have this really poor quality connector to the PC. so i'll definitely recommend against it.

so the difference in clarity of someone's voice when recorded on different quality mics is HUGE. my 5vh2 mic sounds staticky and lacks bass.

the at2020 that i'm using is bordering on a professional condenser, so unless you're gonna use it hardcore, i'll tell you don't bother.

as for mic/headset reviews, check youtube out and listen to the tech reviews they post up there, they usually include a voice clip with the headset's mic recording in it with some of these vids, might help.

the final decision however, comes down to what you wanna use it for, if you wanna produce VODs for high quality youtube broadcasts, i suggest you get a standalone mic, or a pretty good headset mic.

Well from what all my friends have told me, they can all hear me exceptionally well. So I assume the Mic is pretty decent quality.

IMO it's great, but I don't really know too much about Mic's.

Im so damn indecisive, tbh, I could just get a mic since I just want a good mic lol. Also, heres a mic test for siberia v2:

G9x Logitech is pretty good - have used it for a while in both RTS and FPS.

Just ordered a Majestouch 2 Cherry Brown 104 keyboard to replace my membrane Logitech Wave.

Currently using the Plantronics Gamecom 777. It has a good quality mic on it - good for casting. The head phones took a bit to get used to though where my ears would hurt if I had them on for too long. They have good quality sound as well to hear footsteps and explosions equally well.

Alright, Zergtastic.

We cant tell you what mouse to get because it's just personal preference. It's about how it feels in YOUR hand. A keyboard is sort of different, I wouldn't buy into all the g15s and lycosa's because I've had both of them and both of them were just plain keyboards that looked decent. You should get a good keyboard like a mechanical one or you can get one that's just bare bones.

For me; If i went for a keyboard around the $40 range
I would look for this, I want it to be straight no ergonomic bullshet.
Corded
Big backspace key
That's it!

Then get a good pad like Razer Goliathus. or QCK

But the thing I think that is the most important is the headphones.
Not headset, headphones. You can get way higher quality headphones than the siberias.
I would suggest Sennheiser HD 555 and you can add Asus Xonar STX with it aswell. The sound is close to the best its going to get with this pricing.
then get a clip on/stand mic. THEN GG ;D;D;D;D
