Lest we forget

As a current serving memeber of the defence force I feel I new to post in these forums a simple statement.

Lest we forget.

As the younger members of our community enjoy there day off haveing not known much of the past, enjoy your ladder games but don't forget who paved the way for us to have a SEA region. and those old enough raise a glass today no matter where you are and where your from and simply spare a thought or all passed and present memeber of the defence force and the sacrifices they have made.

Lest we forget.

I always think of my Grandad today, who was a paratrooper on D-Day.....always a bit sad.

Well said my friend.

Remember them.

Went to the one in Melbourne, couldn't see and the speakers weren't loud enough so couldn't really hear.. but it was worth it

I feel for all the servicemen/women, scouts, cadets etc all around Vic today, it's cold and pissing down with rain (after doing 5 years of 2-3 services myself as a cadet in Tasmania).

Lest we forget.

What are you currently doing in the Defence Force Denile? After all, today is all about Men and Women like yourself.

Currently at HMAS Watson ( drew the short straw of cooking lunch today) chef. Served on HMAS Newcastle during the Fiji cu and black hawk crash as well as HMAS hawkers bury and gascoyne where we removed live mines from new caledonia. Have served in the defence force 8 years in a week. Been on several other deployments so if anyone has any question about the navy on particular feel free to ask.

Up most respect to people in the military - as much as u see them in the media for the wrong reasons, these are the same people that are willing to lay down their lives to protect their country (sometimes to help another). Really are making the ultimate sacrifice.

Lest we forget.

(didnt go to dawn service but it's cold in canberra ok...)

Been in Honour Guards and Catafalque Parties (and Commander) for the past few years for services such as the Legacy Service at the Shrine (Vice Regal Guard of Honour), Darwin Defenders (Guard of Honour), Battle for Australia (Catafalque Party Commander), etc. Have to say it is a joy to be a part of the ceremonial proceedings that occur every year in Australia.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

? Just because we are young it doesn't mean we don't know the history and importance of today. I had a great grandpa that fought in Gallipoli. He got shot and brought home but only survived a few weeks I think after my older brother was born.

It was a general statement and no offense was ment sorry. I was merely saying there are plenty of young Aussie who don't know the history so it was a reminder that if your unsure ask. again no offense.

No worries, and I agree that so many young people don't know nor do they care which is a shame.

Question for Denile: what's your view on doing a University degree at ADFA then serving versus doing a civilian degree at, for example, Melbourne University, then applying for direct entry officer into defense?

Depends what your finiacal situation is. Applying with a full degree will fast track u in navy progression. But may be stuck waiting for the vaccanicrs in your chosen field. On the otherside you can get paid while studying but may not enjoy some of the loops u have to jump through as a trainee.

AirForce is always needing more qualified personal so it's up to what your more comfortable with really. Staying nearer to home and studying or going to adfa do leads family and home time but paid study.
