Fantastic post over at TL that highlights some of the issues players have with SC2, as well as some possible fixes. Maybe this is the solution that players have been looking for in regards to the "deathball" problem.
Anyway, some of the maps are up on SEA now. Has anyone tried them out?
Very very interesting, (but incredibly long-winded) read. Will be trying out some of those maps just to see how much of a difference it really makes.

basically, the entire 3000 word article can be summed up by "SC2 should be more like brood war"
No, not exactly. He is saying that there are some things BW does better than SC2, and SC2 should look at the way it is played and think about why it worked in BW and whether it would make SC2 better as well.

the changes he wants to see:
make the mineral mining rate the same as BW
make 1 HY gas per base (like BW)
the reasons he gives:
this will encourage people to expand more (like in BW!)
expanding more will make games on bigger maps (like the maps they had in BW) more interesting
did i miss anything important?

i guess i need to learn how to play now...
It's not like he wants it to be just like BW. He's not calling for a return to the archaic UI limitations, such as no MBS.
If people were forced to expand more, it would help cut back on the turtlely deathball style play. Personally, that's my biggest issue with the game from a spectators perspective. There's no back and forth, harrass while expanding dynamic. It just feels like the game boils down to one big fight, which lasts all of ten seconds, and then it's over.
I agree with this, not enough of a change to eliminate most strategies, but moreso encourage expansions.
This is mostly to do with the one base all ins, which are most powerful from terran because of the mule. Other races I believe dont have the same power on 1 base. This doesnt mean I am saying mule = imba, but that more needs to be done to encourage play in both directions, not just all in.
And if it is all in/cheese, it has to be really creative in its use of what you have
I really do hope blizzard slowly steers towards these ideas would make the game more refreshing and more exciting imho. Really long article, I wonder how long it took him to finalize all this but it is worth reading it.
I will be very interested to see if Blizzard is even slightly tempted to try this. Or if one of these maps even gets put into small community tournament map pools (more than just a one-off night with wT i mean )
It feels like they will either change all maps to 6m2g/1hyg, or do nothing. I don't see only one or two maps with this format going into any map pools, simply for the point of meta-game consistency.

Yeah, obviously either all would have to change or none. It plays out very differently to a standard game. Everyone should really try it. Obviously there are issues, but it's fun as balls
I don't really know much about mapmaking / the mapmaking scene, but it's interesting to read about simply from the perspective of using maps to change the game instead of trying to get Blizz to change the game directly.
Also maybe the whole 'deathball' syndrome may evolve out, it's not like it's the only style of play that's happening (all races have options for harassing multiple places at once if they really want to).
