Hey everyone .
I ma having trouble figuring out some of the answers to this question i have managed to think of a few but i dont think i have enough really since it requires me to have 10 and i ahve like 3 or 4 .

So here is the question.

"A graphic design company wants to expand their existing peer-to-peer network to incorporate 20 new wireless systems and a new server which will act as both a file server for the company LAN, and a web-server for external client access.

You have been asked to meet with their office manager to discuss their networking needs & assist in making these purchases. Prepare a list of at least 10 questions you should ask the client during the interview to determine the network requirements."

From a negotiation stand point you should always ask how they heard about your company probably not relevant for you.
Ask when they want it set up by.
Ask about the past, current and the future needs.
Ask how many staff they have employed/how many people will use it.
Who created the existing peer-to-peer network?

1) What IS (Information Systems) do you currently have? (So you can revise them and see if they do need to expand or if that'd be redundant)
2) What is their short-term and long-term goal? Basically, what is their companies goal (long-term) and then figure out how you can achieve that? (Short-term goal) (To determine what type of systems need to be purchased)
3) EDIT: I left 3 blank so I'm going to fill it in now. What is their business strategy? Low-cost leadership, differentiation or focus? You need systems that fit the company strategy the most.
4) Budget?
5) How often will the servers be used or intended to be used? (Determine the processing power of the server computer)
6) Where will they store the new servers? Do they have sufficient cooling for higher-end servers? (If need to invest in better storage or get lower-end servers)
7) Do they have the required staff to setup and provide maintenance on the new systems? (Or do you have to contract someone OR BRING IN A MATE YE YE)

I hope they're actually relevant.

EDIT2: Churlz, I can tallk/discuss or give a different view on business ethics, I'm doing it this semester too ^^. But the other part idk lol

1) Timeframe ?
2) Budget ?
3) What specs do they want for the machines ?
4) Would they consider using wired instead of unwired?
5) What kind of setup do they want ? ie; is it a big/small office ?
6) What OS do they want to use ?
7 What server do they want ? windows 2008/Linux etc ?
8) How much webspace do they need ?
9) Do they want a database server aswell ? (MS SQL) or just a file server
10) What speed are they after for the network ? (internet speed specific)
11) What existing networking do they use ?
12) Do they want you to concurrently install a whole new network or overhaul the entire network and make a new one ?
13) Do they have sufficient system admins to support the new network ?
14) Why are they going for a wireless network ? Have they assessed all their options properly ?

Just a few off the top of my head, you can expand on these and break them up I spose into even more questions, what course are you doing at the moment ? Im doing a diploma in system admin currently would be good to talk to people in a similar situation

Give the customer what they need not what they want. I remember a story about a hotel that was receiving complaints about how long the elevator took. So they asked an engineering firm to design a faster elevator system. After much work the firm could only get a relatively small increase over the system they already had in place. So they put floor to ceiling mirrors next to elevator instead. Patrons were so busy using the mirrors to look at themselves and each other, they forgot all about how long the wait was. Now that I recall, that may have been a Day9 story. Point is, focus the questions on defining the problem, don't assume that the problems they say is the problem they have.

What exactly is the problem they say they have (that we're supposed to not be assuming they have) and how does that relate to what is being discussed?
