why: because there'll be more than one expansion and calling it any of the following:

HoT, sc2hot, schot, LoID, SC2LoID, SCLoID or SC2LO

it'll follow the same pathway in that when people say warcraft 3 they really mean wc3 with The Frozen Throne, and they'll say Reign of Chaos or vanilla wc3 when they want to refer to the original.

Agreed with Dippa, but to your reasoning of why it was referred to as 'brood war' was possibly because Starcraft 1 Vanilla didn't have a chapter name attached, and so it differentiated better. Also, "Brood War" is very easy to say - especially in comparison to HotS and LotV.

I will just call it Starcraft 2 since only 12 people who either cannot afford heart of the Swarm or who are the random people who dislike the expansion but love the original (I'm fairly certain people thought this about BW and SC1 and what the **** is wrong with you people?)

As a serious response, no. If they want to refer to the campaign, sure, they might say "That part from Wings/Heart/Legacy. Multiplayer-wise, the expansions other than expansion specific unit additions, it's the same game.
