With the FFE are you cutting probes at 15 to afford the nexus and wall? And do you ever need to get the cannon before the gate if it's a reasonably timed pool?
Not totally safe, check Huk v Nestea from GSL Nov. It is safer if the opponent doesn't go gas first, if he does, speedlings are going to make your life hell.
If you scout a speedling opening get more zealots/sentries before expanding.. and if they make alot of lings - transitioning into a 3gate expo isn't very hard...
HuK played that game pretty badly - by his standards...
It's not your build noobinator, ffe, 1 gate expo, 3 gate expo are all standard builds, that work well at any level.....provided they are executed well. They all have breaking points, but remember that starcraft is as much about build as it is about your opponents build/actions.
But yeah, you'll need a few more sentries just to be safer.6 is a pretty nice number, normally I have like 6 sentries and a zealot before I start off on stalkers etc, but obviously this will need to change depending on what you see. Will expand this post once I get more time.

Precisely, you dont get 1 gate expand if u scout speedling expand. IF you do so, get 2 gates to wall your natural. Good simcity + FF is key to defend speedlings.
Here's my latest game.
I tried following the FFE advice (I freaked out a bit over his pool timing but I think it was OK except for the bad zealot rally point).
In the end though, I just couldn't handle that sort of muta flock. Did I overmake zealots or what? I made the colo in response to scouting hydras but he didn't really make many so IDK if it was the right call. Oh and i had ~3 FPS for the last few minutes (<1 when I gg'd) :/
