wow why so anxious?

I can understand the pros getting nervous trying to qualify for code a and especially code s because their salary is riding on it...

but most of us here, what does it matter... every game you play someone is going to lose, and it'll probably be you around half of the time unless you're GM.

So stop worrying and just play

I still do at times, especially facing Favored Players and players far higher than me. If it's me favored, then the opposite. I used to be especially scared of PvP.

Playing favoured opponents is great because it offers a chance to improve MMR (though confidence rating goes down if you win too which means you still have to prove you've improved to the system)

And losing hardly affects your rating at all... and truth is... when you do get matched to favoured opponents it's just a chance for the system to make sure you're both in the right place... when you lose you just accept that the other player is ranked higher, and has demonstrated the higher skill to be there

Good chance to watch reply too, see how did that higher ranked player so easily deal with your usual tactics.

Then you forget about it, and start a new game thinking only of hitting all your timings and sttuff, yay

I feel it only when I get a Terran opponent, I have so much trouble against them. Need to work on that a lot.
Other than that I've learned not to let losing bother me at all and just move onto the next game with a clear mind.

For your Frosty Day9's advice is best... find a prac partner who can execute the build(s) you have trouble with and ask them to do it to you over and over until you're so sharp on the response when you see your laddder opponent do it you laugh to yourself.

I feel this way about cannon rushes now, I used to fear that shit more than anything when I first started anyway

Haha, I wonder if the trouble you have is because you are worried about facing them? But as zeffrin said, get a practice partner to just do the same strat over and over again. Day[9] mentioned in one of his dailies that he struggled against bunker rushes in tournies so he got his friend to bunker rush him game after game. By the end of the day he could hold off any bunker rush that was thrown at him, and his practice partner had a perfect bunker rush as well.

I do admit from nerves from time to time, but I'm now confident in how I play and simply do my thing . Practice with friends/partner helps HEAPS, crap against protoss, grab a protoss friend/clannie and practise your heart out!

Usually never but I did yesterday playing my first ever nGen player. On the loading screen it comes up with 'Favoured' in ZvT (he's terran and favoured)

I damn near shat my pants, since I'm diamond and like all of nGen are high master/gm. But it was a pretty fun game actually, and helped cure any anxiety I might have. I don't think I'll be anxious of a name again. I did lose but it was a close and pretty epic 1hr and 7 minute game. Goes to show if you love sc2 and apply yourself you should have more confidence in your play if you focus.

I have it but some days it's worse than others and like others have said it tends to settle down after a game or two.

I think the reason we get it is because we care.

We are on this endless pursuit to get better and have invested a fair bit of ourselves into the game so it's only natural for their to be some anxiety when you are about to test yourself once again.

Starcraft isn't just a game where you can just have a fang around and see what happens, you need to be mentally ready to engross yourself, at least i do anyway, hence why if i'm not really in the mood to concentrate i will just watch streams.

Yeah... TBH I have stopped laddering. Not so much as anxiety, I work full time and have my studies and pilot training to go on with, so I just don't have enough time to commit. i get discouraged after not being able to play for a week, and sit down and get smashed all night... then start to go ok... then can't play for a while then get back on and it happens again. End last season I was facing high diamonds and a couple of masters... now I'm trading even with mid level plats... whats the point in trying to improve when I just don't have enough time... *sigh* Good luck guys tho with your ladder... my answer to anxiety was just to hit the button and use the first game as a warm up. Then after that win or loss get into the zone and I was fine!

I'm only ever uncomfortable before the first match; once I get rolling, win or lose, it's easy to just click "find match". Some days, though, psyching myself up enough to hit that button for the first time is the hardest thing to do.
All in all, if you remember that you're playing to improve, it isn't that bad. It sucks going through a six or seven loss streak, but in the end, it's what you take away from those games that really counts.
Winning tells you you're on the right track, losing points out what you have to improve to get back on track. Just think of it like that.
Gonna win some, gonna lose some.

I think one of the biggest motivators to play is to watch your favorite player play. That gets me so pumped, especially when I watch huk/hero play, I'm like wowowow I wanna do that build.

Then I go on hte ladder and get smashed, while trying to replicate the HuK heart while my minerals are going up to 1k

Found this on TL today, might seem a little cheesy, but I liked it anyway.

I seem to have gotten over it for now, by committing to playing a certain number of games each night and not making the aim to win... at the moment my aim is 'never get supply blocked'. And I actually win more playing like this so far

This is the way to go Anyone with ladder anxiety should just try to put the stress of "needing to win" to bed, and just concentrate on improvement. Well done Asrath!
