Play Well Cup — 2v2 Charity Tournament for Company Teams
Hi all,
First-timer in sc2sea, but I just thought I'd pop in and let everyone know about an Australian tournament we're holding; starting in about 2 weeks time. It's called the Play Well Cup, it's a 2v2 tournament, where companies can sign up a team to play on their behalf. We're hoping to get a company or two to sponsor the tournament as well, and the prize pool will actually be donated towards the two Child's Play hospitals in Australia (Mater Children's Hospital in Brisbane & the Sydney Children's Hospital). We're also working on casting the best matches from each week of play on YouTube.
We've already got some great teams signed up, including CBS Interactive, Liquid Interactive (don't call them Team Liquid :P), the Voxel Agents, Wicked Witch Software, SEGA Studios Australia, and more.
Does the company have to provide sponsorship for the team to enter?
Thanks!
Yup, both players do have to work for the company you are representing in order to compete. I should add also if you're representing a company (especially a large company), you do need permission from your bosses in order to compete.
It's pretty much the same idea behind the After Hours Gaming League [http://afterhoursgaming.tv/], but with Aussie-based companies!
In terms of sponsorship, there's no plan for teams to have to get sponsorship money to compete. The idea is that tournament sponsors to provide the money; the competing teams just need to rock up and play!
Hi everyone, we're kicking off our 2nd season of the Play Well Cup in a couple of weeks, so I just thought I'd drop by, revive the thread & see if there are any players from sc2sea who would would like to compete!
Last season was a big success; we had 10 teams compete (like Firemint, SEGA Studios Australia, Liquid Interactive & many more) and we raised around 1800 bucks for Child's Play. This season, there's no charity fundraising; it's just for fun!
It's the same basic idea as the last season; teams of 2 represent their workplaces in the tournament. It will a match once a week, and run over about 8 weeks. The big change this time is that last season was a 2v2 tournament; this time it's a team 1v1-based tournament, which should mean some big changes in strategy & more focused play.
Wow, I'd love to have a chat about doing something like this here in NZ! The AHGL was awesome to watch.
If you're from NZ, you'd like to compete & have your employer's blessing, I'm cool with that! Feel free to sign up on the site, or just hit me at twitter.com/jamescroft
