Sublime PC Gear Gaming Community are looking at running a Starcraft II competition
We will be streaming the event over our website with our own shoutcaster Maynarde.
We will be looking for a HEAD ADMIN as well as a few other admins to help the running of this competition.
Sublime community
The competition will be backed by ASUS , Ttesports and possibly MWave.
We are currently looking for admins to help us run the competition, if your interested contact me on steam "sublimepcgear" or send me a email nathan@sublimepcgear.com.au
We are currently thinking a group of professionals and a group of amateurs
Im from a counterstrike source background so if anyone with decent knowledge wants to help me run this and give me a format and rules, I can offer the prizes and ill throw in maybe $100 cash or something.
If anyone has ideas on how to setup the competition, that would be greatly appreciated.
I have a full league / ladder and double elimination system on my website to use, which is fully interactive.
I need to peoples suggestions in terms of how to split up the player ranks (eg bronze players with silver and gold players in Amateur league?) or how would it be setup?
Thanks
Sublime Community

It's certainly tough to make bronze 1v1s sound interesting :P That was a local tourney between friends that worked at EB Games and wanted their games casted. Was known as "Djent" back then when I was a total scrub.
Hey Nateus Welcome to the site bro
Yes I will be giving casting a go for this particular comp, feel like I've gotten alot better recently and hope that the Sublime event ends up being pretty sweet
Do message if there are any suggestions / offers of help.
multiple events Benji !!! its going to be a long term thing with our sponsors (providing there is support and a community develops out of it)
What do you mean community? Check out the existing SEA tournaments and what kind of numbers they started pulling, compared to what they do now (examples are the SC2SEA Community Open, and the ESL Go4SC2 Cup series) and see if you'd be happy with similar numbers.
You should post your goals, and be specific. Like do you want X viewers? Reach an Aussie audience? A SEA audience? A global audience? Maximise participation or prefer more viewers? Get the best players from SEA involved? Get international players involved?
At the moment sublime gaming community is a small community which is entirely counterstrike source based...
so we are looking at adding a new game to our community (Starcraft II)
So we are looking for admins, players to join our site and play in our new competitions.
We are looking for a Aussie Audience, yes. However if people outside of Australia want to play i dont see the problem in it? Whats your point of view? Is it better to stay within australia, or do alot of tournaments online work with international players from SEA?
Basically i have played this game for about 2 months so im still heavily learning ... however im relying off the SEA community (if they are interested) to tell me whats worth doing and what they would like me to run in order for it to be a successful competition.
As for numbers i can probably (if running a league) do 4 -8 groups of 8 (so up to 64 players) in one competition (eg. Amateur)
and then the same again for a professional league.

Australia is one of a few countries that play on the SEA server. Of course there would be some "international" players, but I think deL means are you going to accept players from other regions like North America, Korea, whatevs?
As for separating two different leagues, I would suggest a Bronze to Platinum or Gold league for "Amateur" and Diamond / Masters / GM or even just Masters / GM for the "professional league". Fortunately, SC2 has a league system which makes it reasonably easy to distinguish where abouts a players skill range is (roughly).
Also, I would assume by "develop a community" you mean "develop interest" as there's already a community in SEA, you're posting to it right now
In my opinion To start you should look at how it's going to be done in the sense of is it a: LAN like competition at a single net cafe, LAN like competition spread across multiple net cafes (possibly all around australia) or purely online. next you should decide on the competition format: leagues (round robins with finals) or a straight out tournament.

@ Benji - i didnt know you could host tournaments here ! im new to this site, just thought it was a giant forum community where everyone goes to talk about sc2. (as you can probably tell by my posts ive joined up about 10 minutes ago) but yes the idea behind it is we have the facilities to run tournaments from our site , and the sponsors who are providing prizes for this competition want our website to be used yes.
im not asking people to go away from SC2SEA , im just asking who would be interested in playing or admining a sc2 competition through sublime with prizes from ASUS, Thermaltake, Sublime, and Mwave. Im not asking anyone to move away from the community here or leagues.
@ maynarde yes i mean developing interest in a competiton (that would be held elsewhere - sublime) , the point of this thread is to see who would be interested in a online tournament held by sublime? and who would be interested in helping me run it?
@Djvillian - we eventually may run LAN like competitions, but this is purely a online tournament for now.
You sure can host tournaments here man, there's several every week Seeing as this will most likely be a predominantly SEA populated tournament, I would definitely suggest a good move is to host it here, or host via both sites.
Also, seeing as it's YOUR tournament you can of course put up as much advertising for sponsors and your site as you'd like in the post and on your stream. I personally can't see why not, but I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong :P
Of course there's no problem in hosting your own tournament on your own site. There are many tournaments that aren't done through sc2sea.com but advertise and pick up all of their players here, for instance ESL and ttEsports tournaments are done on completely different sites.
Advertise it here and www.teamliquid.net and people will join especially if prizes are involved.
would be best to host on mon/tues/friday so you dont compete with COs or ESL or the other established events.
its gonna be hard to get people to join unless the prize pool is $50+ total per event, most people don't want to register and have new accounts especially if its a new site and they don't know if its gonna be a regular thing. if self-sponsoring for the first few times will it be sustainable? thats kinda the problem we had too, till some generous donators stepped in also if its announced to be long term and then it suddenly stops after 2 months you're gonna lose trust with your visitors.
creating tournaments is not gonna move the traffic and even if theres a nice prize pool, after the tournament people won't visit the site anymore.
more tournaments for the community are always good but splitting up the community over many small sites just makes it hard for them to register for stuff. thats why people dont make their own sites with their own sponsor and just host it directly on TL etc but with all their sponsor info there, especially if its a one off thing.
what you need is long term sustainable content generation and other events that enrich the users experience and makes them want to come back. it takes an extreme amount of time and help from mods, writers, and users who love the site but thats whey they have at TL and in a smaller scale what we have at sc2sea. people know we love doing this, its not going to be a one off thing and we are here to stay for the long term.
so yes, response would be far better and easier to manage if it was hosted on sc2sea, hence the peoples suggestions above. but i understand your position since you have sponsor obligations.
I'd stay away from a group format especially when running your first league, with no contacts in the scene at all, and probably not a huge prizepool.
I'd split up the skill levels into:
Bronze/Silver
Gold/Platinum; and
Diamond/Masters/Grandmasters
So having some 3-tiered tournament like this (Get creative with the naming of them :P) could be something new and interesting. Things to steer clear of when you're not very experienced in SC2 tourneys are Swiss style and Group Round Robin because these are time consuming and/or require quite a lot of babysitting of players. Single elimination is fine to start off with.
I think your best bet is to make your threads about the event and post them here at sc2sea, on your homepage and teamliquid.net to gather interest and signups from all 3 communities, keeping the 3 threads updated with the latest information and then aggregating all the signups. Upkeep them and make them a part of these communities, and a regular fixture.
Then provide extra exclusive content on the website such as replays, VODs, stats, a leaderboard, allow people to obs games once they contribute X posts to your site (not spam), official streamers, hall of fame, etc. just off the top of my head. This way the people who were going to check out your site and become a part of it have a reason to, and those who were never going to don't waste their time having to make more accounts and are more likely to join the event.

thank you for the great suggestions. I will be posting prizes and format over the next 3 weeks . we may start off with a single elimination comp. Sounds like the way to go.

Im assuming best of 3 maps?
Best of 3 sets / match ups (I guess is what you mean) is the widely used format for many many tournaments. It's seen as fairer and is a good way to indicate whether or not a player is actually better than the other one, as they get another chance if they lose the first game.
Depends how quick you wanna bang through a tourney dude
Also, usually finals or Round of 4 to 8 sometimes change to Bo5 or 7.
depends on how many entries u get for bo3, if u have **** load of people do bo1 first couple of rounds then start bo3 when more players get knocked out
