Introducing the SEACL #1
Our very own version of the GSTL
Brought to you by Mr Ray, our benevolent season SEASL 1 sponsor who is looking to sponsor the SEASL 2 after this finishes!
Tournament Details
Admins: This tournament will be run by Torniquet and Frost.510
Size: The tournament will consist of 8 teams, each having a maximum of 10 players and a minimum of 8.
Clan Requirement: It is the Sponsor's specific request that only clans will be allowed to participate in this tournament. Clans are defined in the true essence of the word, a group of players forged by friendships wearing a similar tag who have played and trained together consistently over a period of time. These players regularly have their own activities, channels and play primarily on SEA.
Players are not allowed to join a clan just to participate in this tournament, neither are they allowed to create a new clan just to participate in this. This goes against the very nature of the tournament that aims to encourage clan spirit and is extremely obvious to everyone. Any attempts of smurfing will be dealt with harshly for the players involved and the Team. It is the Team Manager's responsibility to ensure fairness of his players and no excuses will be tolerated in the event that unethical practices are occurring etc stream cheating/smurfing and the guilty clan and players will be DQed and banned from all future sc2sea events.
Team members with an existing clan: All clan members who also have a sponsored team will be allowed to play for their clan as long as they are considered true, existing members of their clan.
This includes:
EdgE, deth, Pinder who are part of aMSI will be allowed to play for TA
Revz (flash) and RedArchon(NEO) & Indy (NEO) will be allowed to play for inFi
YoonYJ (i'M) will be allowed to play for aLt
Non-SEA players from a SEA clan: All players who are not originally of SEA origin but who wear the clan tag and participate as a clan member will be allowed to play for their clans.
This includes:
Salvation an American based player has been part of TA forever will be allowed to play for them.
Targa a Norwegian player who moved to Australia to study will be allowed to play for inFi.
Format: 5 Teams are granted automatic entry into the finals, chosen based on previous performance and strength of the players in the team.
The 5 invited teams have confirmed their participation and the seedings are as follows:
#1 inFi (PSTL Champions)
#2 nGen (KOF Monthly Finals #2)
#3 TA (Consistent good performances)
#4 aLt (Consistent good performances)
#5 Wswg (Beat TA in the Ro8 of PSTL)
Other strong SEA clans have been identified as EVE/MSKI/GG/GNS/SPR/GVIEW/PRO.
Qualification slots
#6 winner of qualifier week 1
#7 winner of qualifier week 2
#8 "Wild Card" slot will be chosen entirely at the Admins discretion but based on the clans performance/dedication in the qualifications to ensure that the next most deserving clan qualifies for the finals.
Each week, 8 clans from the sign ups will be selected to compete in the qualifiers in order to secure a position in the finals. Both the qualifiers and finals will be played using the same format, one similar to the GSTL. Teams will each choose one player in the first round, and the losing team will select another player to send in, and so on, until one team reaches 4 wins (BO7 format). The winning team will advance to the next round.
All accounts must be the player’s primary/true account (no Smurf accounts).
Tournament Admin will host each game individual game.
In the event of a disconnection the admin will make the decision. The administration has the right to review the replay and final score board to determine the outcome or force a rematch. A win will be awarded to one of the players if, and only if, the game presents obvious one-sided characteristics.
These are just the basic guidelines and the Admins have the right to change any of the rules or make any decision at their own discretion. Like in almost all our most sc2sea tournaments, this rule serves as more of a disclaimer for our protection then anything else and we will likely not have to use it.
Teams will consist of 10 players only. Teams submission is decided by the team manager. Invited teams have up to the 10th of June to finalist their lists. Qualifying teams have up to the day before their qualification match to finalise their teams.
Once the 10 players have been selected, it is expected that the selected 10 will not change throughout the tournament. If the team captain wishes to switch one of the 10 with someone else, the admin must be notified immediately and this will be subjected to the admins approval.
Each team must appoint a manager who will be the captain of the team for the remainder of the tournament.
Managers must choose the starting player to represent their team in an upcoming round and must also be able to communicate well with the organisers. i.e Choose someone responsible or your clan will suffer
How do i join?
If your clan meets the requirements as stated above, you can apply to join this tournament by simply submitting your clan list of 10 players in this thread.
For the wild card, would it not be more fair for the second place of each qualifier to fight it out?
That is the team that came second from the #1 play the team that came second from #2. Otherwise, its more of an arbitary pick and there really isn't transparency or logic in picking the wild card. Otherwise, the decision is up for ridicule and arguments for bias and prejudice, etc etc can be made.
My logic for the picking of the wild card is because, this isnt really an invitational, and more like a round robing type tournie in my view.

Question, who came up with the map pool and the choice to deny Vetos? Crossfire and Xel Naga Fortress are considered fairly difficult maps for some matchups.
Frost and Genesis (cityhunter) came up with the map pool and the groundwork rules etc but this was still before the last season of gtsl happened. Genesis is busy with exams atm so Torniquet and Frost will be the main admins.
i added quite abit of stuff to the original rules but havent touched the maps yet. need input on that and yea i dont mind just using whatever GTSL used last.
- GSL Dual Sight - GSL Crevasse - GSL Terminus SE (Destructible rocks at 3rd) - GSL Metalopolis (No close spawn positions) - Xel’Naga Caverns - MLG The Shattered Temple (Not uploaded yet but we need this uploaded on SEA asap anyway) - Tal’Darim Altar LE - Shakuras Plateau - iCCup Testbug
3 Map changes and the map pool is more interesting and balanced.
Teams will consist of 10 players only. Teams can select their 10 participants on
their own but selected members information must be passed on to tournament admin.
Once the 8 players have been selected, it is expected that the selected 8 will not change throughout the tournament. If the team captain wishes to switch one of the 8 with someone else in the overall team, the admin must be notified immediately and it will be subjected to the admins approval.
Each team must have/nominate a manager who will be the captain of the team for the remainder of the tournament.
Managers must choose the starting player to represent their team in an upcoming round and must be communicate well with the organisers.
Highlighted errors - Benji
Also, with regards to:
'After the 2 winning teams win the public qualifications the final "Wild Card" invited slot will be chosen at the Admins discretion based on the clans performance/dedication in the qualification to ensure that the next most deserving clan qualifies for the finals.'
With 6 Seeds, 2 Qualifier winners, and 1 Wild card, thats 9 teams in the finals, how will the brackets work for that? Or was there a mistype in the section below?
'Format: 6 Teams are granted automatic entry into the finals, chosen based on previous performance and strength of the players in the team.'
Also, perhaps a rule that the same map cannot be played more than once? Otherwise I am positive 90% of the games will be on XNC, which is seriously the most boring map in the world.

don't worry guys, maps are not final and will be tweaked further so any further discussion is appreciated. And yea probably the single map per round limit will be good, as well as add some strategic depth to player selection.
i also have to mention the SEA GTSL final ro8 will probably be held over a week and will be a first to 4 wins each round and the finals first to 5. tentative schedule will be something like this. will change depending on feedback/sponsors request.
day1: ro8 part 1 Mon (system / seuguer cast)
day2 ro8 part 2 Tues (sixth / hut cast)
day3: ro4 part Thursday (kelly/glade or phoenix/zie cast)
day4: finals Saturday (xeen/benji cast)
the qualifications however fall on a single friday in each of the first 2 weeks and for logistical reasons will follow a similar format to the KOF instead and be a first to 3 wins, finals first to 4 (feedback needed)
Also, SPR should be putting forward a team for the qualifiers, we are just confirming that our players will be able to play. And OC we recognize that 2 of our players Sungin and Soonghee will be playing for pRo and we wish them all the best.
Cheers,
XenomorphSPR

An interesting thought is whether or not the use of 'revives' is viable in SC2 Team Leagues. NGL used to use a revive once per season which allowed you to revive one player in a clan war.
It's probably better suited to a league rather than an elimination format, but it'd be great if you could work out a way to introduce it.. Added strategy imo

perhaps there have been some misunderstanding, sungin and soonghee joined prodigy about 2 months ago, we allow them to hang around with spr just as how duskbin allow cobo to join us for this tournament.

My team seems to be clueless as to whats going on here and neither Sungin or Soonghee are online. Plz explain.

I am planning to submit a "Philippine All-Star" lineup for this tourney since we believe that with a 10-man team composed of our country's strongest, we have greater chances to last in the league. Is this legal?
this is not really a league btw, the Ro8 is carried out over 1 week like GTSL and thats that!
yes zendex, i might probably make an exception for the Pinoy All Star lineup as the PH community is so closely nit together and if you choose this route it has to be only Pinoy players, so gogo sign up now.
As i've made exceptions by letting clans join multiple times, i think this should be a reasonable exception as at the end of the day we want every part of the community to enjoy the tournament.
If the players who are not confirmed yet cannot play, could I replace them with others?
I hope this entry satisfies your want nirvana :P I still haven't seen either soonghee or sungin online and no reply from timber so idk whats going on, but since pRo put em in their line up first i guess they'll play for pRo.
P.S. I'm a scrub and new to sc2sea so I dunno how to get all the cool flags and race symbols =S could some1 fix it for me? =D

Reason: clarification
Hey, So I asked FrOst but I'll ask here as requested.
Team SPR didn't really play well at all when we played against Eve. Did some silly things (Naruto all in kekeke), had lag issues and we'd just like to see if we can get another chance, maybe sign up for week 2 or something? We believe that if we play properly we could have a reasonable chance at doing well in this tourny. Thanks ^^ Hope you consider.
Team SCN i need abit of background information of your clan. when was it started, webpage, leaders etc.
the china flag can be made by typing "i-China" without the dash and submitting.
To be fair to all teams, the teams that have signed up for week 1 again cannot sign up and play in week 2. Alot of teams have asked to try again but please understand we cannot accommodate everyone as we want to give every SEA clan at least one chance to participate rather than none because a team ended up playing twice. Particularly unfortunate was pRodigy who missed Cobo and had a very ill timber play today, but i have to be fair and there is nothing i can do. The competition is very stacked at the moment and look set for a really strong Ro8 quarter finals.
Rest assured everyone will have their chance to participate again perhaps next season. Right now what you can look forward to is our SEASL season 2 open qualifiers starting soon after the SEACL which will be 1v1.
Team EVE wins #1 spot
The wildcard spot will probably be given to team pinoy who finished #2 in this tourney (unless there is a stronger runner-up team next week)
actually we dont have any homepage.here is the link of our clan member's rank in sea~~ http://www.sc2ranks.com/c/2315/sea-qq/
and i am the leader of this clan
I would like to urge the moderators of sc2sea to unban rlsZanooku from participating in this tourney. Seriosly, this is really a waste if he doesn't get to chance to play. He's our leader and one of the founders and those people who really know him will acknowlegde that he's a nice person and a great partner partner who contributed my success in getting into the grandmaster league

Zanooku was banned for a reason Milionaire. He is immature and behaves like a troll. I do 'really know him,' and if he is unbanned he will just repeat his past atrocities. After being a 'friend' on battle.net and practising regularly with him it's safe to say that I do know him, and that he treats his fellow gamers with no respect whatsoever.
I recently spoke to him regarding whether he shows any remorse for his past actions or the will to change his attitude. Naturally, I received a troll answer.

Haha?
Zanooku, from the sounds of it, is ONLY a nice person to you guys. Why does he deserve to play in this tournament if he is banned because he is extremely offensive, rude, cries about imbalance, and is in general a troll? IdrA doesn't go into every ladder game and purposely shit talk his opponent to make himself feel better. IdrA may complain and get annoyed but holy shit have you even read what Zanooku says?
Trolls try to invoke a response, so a response of banning him is cruel yet oh so satisfying.
Hey Myth, thanks for your feedback. i agree that might be fairer but only IF the brackets were both equal for both qualifiers. With the difference in strength of teams and the randomness of the random drawing, it makes more sense to be flexible with our wild card choice, while at the same time giving unquestionable "earned" spots to the winning team each week. Although our wildcard decision might seem arbitrary - please note that it is unbiased and made in the best interests of the tournament.
As of now it looks like the first bracket was harder than the second one so it only makes sense to pick the wildcard from there. The "wild card" gives who we think have the next best shot although they didn't win. kinda like American idol and when they don't make it into the top 2 in the group stages, clay Aiken etc.
As for the Zanooku issue, yes from his past actions he has proven to be someone we do not wish in our community who could put the tournament at risk in credibility so its something we cannot allow. He was banned from sc2sea, multiple times with multiple accounts then IP banned after been given many many warnings. Hes banned from the bnet fourms and all the popular streams too so hey theres definitely something seriously wrong that would make all the mods/admins from various sites do this. He needs to take a step back and reflect and then change his behaviour - presently he does not see wrong in his actions or is too proud to acknowledge the error of his ways thats why his behaviour continues to persist and the moment he recognises his behaviour is wrong and should be corrected he will change into a better person.
Reputation is so important especially in small communities. But i am not a totally unforgiving person, I have talked to him about this and have told him that the moment he proves that he has changed his attitude and ways he "might" be allowed to participate in our FUTURE tournaments, like SEASL 2 etc depending on what the general consensus from our admins is about him then, so the ball is in his court now. It is a deep hole he has dug for himself but not totally impossible to get out off.
1) no other team signs up by friday or if one of the signed up teams fail to confirm their attendance.
2) does not have the same players who were listed in TA lite
This is to be fair to the other teams who were not allowed to sign up again and to be fair to other clans as we will allow a max 2 entries per clan each season - we have already made this exception specially for the bigger clans.
Current Week 2 teams:
crux (confirmed)
gD (confirmed)
nDLgaming (confirmed)
kiwi (confirmed)
SFCN
EveTS
eXtremist (confirmed)
If the other team leaders do not confirm by replying to my PM by tomorrow night their team will be replaced.
If team leaders don't make the effort to log in and stay updated to the website how will i be able to depend on you during the quarter final round?
If you can't PM because of insufficient posts leave me a visitor message.
Nah it's cool. Yeah I was thinking about putting the team in a few days ago but thought that having tree teams was a little too many so I held off on it. Then I saw that no other team put in a lineup so I figured I'd just submit one to fill up the 8th spot.
We'll be online on the Friday to fill up the 8th spot if no other team goes for it and if there are any no shows we'll be happy to fill in for them.
Cheers,
ps. The 3rd lineup has no players from TA Lite

Reason: added the ps. bit
I thought TA was already given a spot (qualified), sorta like invitational, along with the other 3 teams.
And i also thought i read a post before where TA played in the qualifer 1. Have i missed something in the rules? Sorry for my noobish questions.
Just a general comment, and this is not directed at TA or any other large clan (so pleaseeeee don't take it the wrong way), if we let a clan compete more than once doesn't that defeat the purpose of a clan war?! I understand there are large clans out there (hell i think Ngen is also quite large), but what if, hypothetically speaking, TA was the only team in the finals, because they have two teams competing, that to me just seems wrong (or is it just me?).
The reason for my comment is large clan’s usually have inter clan tournaments or seeding, to figure out which team members gets to play. I know this was part of our clan (we have like 15 members and we had to be selective). This firstly motivates players to do well and also ensures that this isn’t a free for all competition, and is really a team battle.
I highly doubt GSTL would let any of their teams get double dips and increase the chance of winning. It is contrary to the whole purpose of the competition.
In saying so, in respective of qualifiers, I don’t object to a team getting two goes, provided there is a free space, because until they qualify the team really is not in the competition (if that makes sense).
myth they let non-clans like team philippines participate and the rules seem to be made up as they go so I dunno if your complaint is really going to be heeded.
For this week we've taken some feedback into consideration and changed the map pool. The pool this week is:
- GSL Xel’Naga Fortress
- GSL Crevasse
- GSL Terminus SE (Destructible rocks at 3rd)
- MLG Metalopolis (No close spawn positions)
- Xel’Naga Caverns
- ESL The Shattered Temple (No close spawn positions)
- Tal’Darim Altar LE
- Shakuras Plateau
- ICCUP Testbug
If you have any queries or suggestions regarding the new map pool PM me or post below. MLG Metalopolis only allows 2 observers, but it is also the only Metalopolis on the server with no close spawn positions, sorry.
+1 3am in NZ. imo should be over 2 nights next time.
Otherwise thanks for hosting
2 nights makes it difficult as some people have other commitments. We've considered running the tournament earlier but then it's too early for the people living in the SG time zone, as they're still coming home from work etc. Really sucks for you NZ guys, your patience tonight has been amazing I'll consider your ideas for future team leagues.
