Something which can also help is if you can find a mentor: even someone in gold/plat can help someone in bronze with the basics. Sometimes all it takes - practice aside - is to see a build in action from someone whose skill level isn't too distant from your own for you to be able to get a better idea of what is involved in using the strategy.

Spectating custom games, going over replays, Archon mode where the coach can help out when needed, 2vAI where both players are practising the same build for comparison purposes - SC2 has a lot of ways to get value out of even casual coaching
