I really like the idea of 3 tournaments run in close succession. It will help develop a local 'scene' much more than the occasional one off tournament.
I also hope they stick with ladders maps. I just never get the chance to play on GSL maps regularly.

Been thinking about how 3 tournaments will be great for Melbourne scene too, however i'm a little disappointed that it's only single elimination.
That's $20 for half (say 20/30 people) who will get knocked out straight away. $10 per game of sc, first round done in 30mins? That's not going to do a lot for casual gamers, or even the better players. Luck of the draw too.
A group stage would be awesome, like the last Melbourne tournament i went to. Guaranteed a lot of games, play more people, worth the price of admission. No upsets with 2 good players coming up against each other R1. Even double elim would be better than single.
I'll be there for all 3 still
Single elim for online tournaments, different system for Lan/cafe imo.

Yeah, I must admit that's why I'm feeling a little edgy about the $20 entry fee. For me there isn't much incentive to hang around if I don't have anything to do.
Nevertheless, I do have a friend who's egging me to come, so I'll turn up for the first one at least. The other two depends on how my exams go (since all three are smack bang during my exam period)

Totally agree with this 100%. I'll definitely pass this on to Aseenus at the event if you don't get a hold of him first. This is a *perfect* example of the kind of feedback tournament co-ordinators are looking for.

Spectate some great games and meet local SC2 players!
i know the peoples that work at ibisq pretty well and am trying to persuade them to accommodate caster(s), they've set up their back room previously for CS tournaments and other shithouse games and they reckon it should be all fine, but just waiting on what the big boss says.
So if any casters that are heading down are interested (by the way im totally butting in, if this has been organised already - my bad) then speak up so i can let them know some, and so we can set the encoders and shit on the comps the night before.

Peace,
Chypre.
Xin Gaming runs events how we see fit, Ibisq is the Venue, they have no say in the matter.
Oooh I wouldn't mind doing some co-casting, although I'm very much an analytical type.
Dox - I don't know how noisy it'll be (I'm hearing impaired, so the noisier the environment, the more I'll NOT socialise with people :P, and since I practically don't know anyone else it is a little out of my comfort zone), but perhaps anyone may like to alleviate these concerns :P.
Sweet, just trying to help where I can - Does this mean there will be casters on site? Coz thus far this is what aus lan's have lacked.
We appreciate all input from the community however we do not like to do something unless it is done properly, we do have some things planned for these upcoming tournaments to make spectating enjoyable. If you would like to suggest anything further we encourage you to email us at: events@xin-gaming.com
defs +12321764861239712 to the idea of making it groups or atleast double elim, single elim its over way to quick! i dont care bout the money i just wanna play more starfcraft ahha, cya at the 28th guys get practicing!
Gooo xin gaming!
They hosted an awesome tournament last time. Good fun, 6 staff from xin gaming running around doing the organizing...a photographer!... AND they invite you out to the pub afterwards!
Ibisq cafe used to be the #1 cafe in melbourne in regards to competitive gaming back in around 2003?04?05? They hosted such events as wcg and a counter-strike league.
They have very dim lighting, a lounge area with a big screen (MTV) with loud music and pool tables. 40-50 comps?
Im sure its changed by now but the set up of the computers will be the worst senario about this event if its still the same. Everytime u want to get to the other side of the room, u need to walk inbetween the rows and knock the bar of everyones chair. Extremly annoying if ur that guy gettin his chair knocked every 10 seconds...
Personally i havent played sc2 since Sydneys tournament but ill definately be there this week for some fun might even have to spectate so i dont humiliate myself
