Currently learning protoss if anyone would like to help, I'll be uploading to drop.sc then posting the links in here, if people want to go through them then perhaps help cool, if you want to go through it and laugh at how bad I am feel free as well.

Cheers

Learn some builds and apply the knowledge you've learned from Zerg. You don't need people to watch your replays if you're just starting.

I think what wrecked me learning zerg was having specific build orders, as opposed to actually learning the game i learnt supply counts and putting down structures at timers, not sure thats the right way to learn.

Do a builder order vs x per match up that just leads to being bad i think

It leads to you being bad if you stop your learning there. Learning X build order vs Y match-up is the first step. Practice that until it's crisp and second nature, THEN start applying your game knowledge and adjusting your build based on what your opponent does.

You're totally right, being inflexible and static in your builds will make you a bad player. However, you can't effectively be a dynamic and reactive player until you have a solid foundation.

Protoss is more build based than the other 2 races imo.
It's also probably the easiest to learn macro wise.

I'll take a look at a replay if you want.
But it's probably a good idea to take a look at some of the links provided first, try out standard openers/builds, then we can address from there.

I'll be happy to help you out a bit, add me in game aequitas.362 or on skype.
Always happy to lend a hand, but especially so with what you said.

yeh except, learning how to do a build isn't the foundation, macro is foundation. Probes and pylons

I always felt like learning the game was in a few different phases:

Firstly, Probes & Pylons, as Aequitas says above. Once you have that you have income now its about spending that income, at this stage, you're silver/gold level macroing at this level will elevate you into the high gold levels of the game, if that's just mass gateway that's cool - just don't focus on pure high tech cause you then expose yourself to a whole myriad of timings etc..

So once you're making bank and spending it, its time to learn timings and work out exactly 'what' to make and when. I learnt specific 'rules' back in wings, I played protoss and one of those rules was > macro up to 3 base and don't move out onto the map vs Terran until I have charge (I liked zealot styles, zealot archon etc..) or another rule might be, that you want to get armour ups first because they buff zealots to tank more than attack or shields etc. Or another zerg example is to get carapace in Muta v Muta before attack as your defence stacks more with the bounce of glaive worms.

Once you've worked out the rules that govern your play, you're well on your way to plat/diamond. The rest is scouting and reactions and polishing the efficiency of your builds to be fast and crisp!

Of course micro comes into play somewhere, but its protoss so you can get to masters with a-move and an F key . All seriousness tho, micro and on the fly type stuff just comes from experience and you'll develop that slowly over time, you're never going to master that stuff by rushing and expecting to be GM straight away, it takes time and I can't think of a way to speed it up.

Improvement is about the ability not to stress out over a loss and take from your defeats the lessons to win the important games in the future. Also, I'd suggest not caring about rank or league and focus on your play and improvement and the rank and league will follow accordingly.

Good luck! let me know if I can help ^_^

Actually being able to do 1 build order for every match up completely autopilot will get you masters easily. Of course you need to be able to adjust but you need a plan (build order) first. You cant adjust and deviate from a plan if you don't have one in the first place.

Can confirm the first part.

2gated to SEA when it meant something, those many centuries ago.

Aaaaanyway, I think you needa buckle down on one race friend, it'd be better just being in it for the long run. ^_^ (i'm not trying to take a stab~)
