[sc2sea]SC2SEA 2013 Recruitment - Be involved today!
The time is now!
If you enjoy SC2SEA and would like to play a part in helping our community grow further, you now have the perfect opportunity to do so.
SC2SEA was created so we could have an eSports scene in our region we could proudly call our own. TL was too massive and our posts always got quickly buried there, it was really hard to find information. That is why we had to create our very own community where we could easily organise tournaments, share strategies, make friends and join clans (look at mGG and ToR today who started as SC2SEA house clans!), attend barcrafts, find out and support our top players and grow the scene.
I think we have done relatively well so far and achieved many of our goals but its not always easy. We depend on the help of volunteers who are passionate and share the same vision as us. We also wish to one day cover more games and achieve what we have achieved for our starcraft community with other games. If you share this dream with us you are welcome to apply for a position.
The basic criteria would be a history of quality posts from you on SC2SEA or at other respectable site and a sense of pride in doing community work.
We have always been a grassroots community site. Many of our members who are well known figures in the scene today started out contributing to SC2SEA in some capacity. Super star PiG was a relative unknown when he first started coaching with TGM. Maynarde was one of mOOnGLaDe's first TGM students before becoming the perfect example of a forum moderator and the bad ass commentator you know today. Benji now works in Riot's eSports divison, inFeZa has realized his dream of getting flown to events for his high level observation skills.
The point is, apart from helping build our community, being involved will also give you recognition and help take you one step closer to realizing your dreams. Don't get me wrong, all these people I mentioned deserve all credit on their own terms and they worked really hard for it. I just mean SC2SEA has helped provide the platform to hone and accentuate their talents. Also watch this video interview with Dox where I feel he sums up what we do perfectly, thanks Dox!
There are also side benefits we reserve for contributors like customised avatars, the latest Blizzard game beta keys, getting large viewership for your work.
The main reason why you should apply is because of your genuine passion for helping the community grow. If you have that and want to be a part in shaping our future we will love to have you on our team.
Description: Our news section experienced a nice resurgence last year but today its not reaching its full potential anymore. We should be covering so much more that goes on in the eSports world, and it does not have to be purely Starcraft either.
Being a content contributor means being part of our news or article writing team. The news team will be in charge of bringing the latest global and SEA news to the community. I've always respected gosugamers as a site i visited purely for the latest news, as it always had the latest happenings updated concisely and I hope we can achieve something similar at SC2SEA.
Basic Requirement: News Writers: You need to follow the scene closely and keep up with the latest news. Some of you already do this very naturally on your own - its exactly people like you whom we want on our team! Share the latest news with everyone else!
Summarizing / writing these short news posts should take 10-15 minutes per piece. Here is an example of a short news post.
Article Writers: Let your creativity shine. Write well about anything gaming related you would like to write about. Think up interesting topics that people would want to read. Invest time and effort into research so it becomes a good piece.
Bonus Requirements:
Pro Active approach to work
Basic knowledge of text/layout formatting and HTML
Ability to write concise descriptions and overviews (News team)
Actively follows the scene through various sites like TL and reddit (news team)
Ability to communicate ideas in an interesting/entertaining way
2. Head Editor of SC2SEA
This is the first time I am opening this position up and its a big one as I simply do not have the time anymore to run SC2SEA in a capacity I would be satisfied with.
The editor will be responsible for overseeing all the content produced on the site. You have to be the driver, motivator, editor all in one to steer our community in the right direction. You have to conceptualize content and forum topics e.g "sc2sea awards", "WCS Oceana Preview" and motivate your team of contributors to post regularly.
I used to do a bit of this with the help of TheGentleman and Dingobloo who managed the news team and Cute & CSerps who managed the article team. We aren't as active anymore and we are looking for the right person who would be able to follow in our footsteps.
This position is also something that will look good on your resume as well if you wish to work in some capacity in the gaming industry or as a writer at a publication. You will be given moderator status, moderator abilities and be able to edit posts.
Regular sc2sea contributors, moderators, organisers who apply will be given higher consideration.
Bonus Requirements:
You have to share our vision of what makes a healthy, strong community.
Pro Active approach to work
Get along well with others and able to motivate writers pleasantly so they don't feel like you're just a douche bossing them around.
Able to dedicate at least 1 hour of your time a day and don't have too many commitments of your own at the moment, like being a clan leader/manager.
Actively follows the scene through various sites like TL and reddit
Ability to communicate ideas in an interesting/entertaining way and hold a good command of the English language
Most importantly, share our vision of growing sc2sea into something bigger - a hub for all gaming related activity in the region
We would like you to commit at least 6 months to this position.
How to apply!
Please send a PM to nirvAnA with the following information:
A short introduction of yourself including your Name/Age/Location/Bnet Nick
Amount of hours you would feel comfortable dedicating each week
Relative Experience
Why should we pick you?
Contact Information (AIM, MSN, or IRC)
Please note that your application is also a representation of your commitment as a potential staff member on the site. If you submit short one word answers it wouldn't give us the impression you would do things with much effort too, but at the same time its best to be clear and concise with your application and not give overly long answers.
Even the smallest donations help keep sc2sea running! All donations go towards helping our site run including our monthly server hosting fees and sc2sea sponsored community tournaments we host. Find out more here.
