Well, I read through the details on the new up and coming Xbox One, see here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xboxone/meet-xbox-one

I like the fact that it will be somewhat integrated to do a number of things, such as a media box. It also looks good to me, and would fit in to my current entertainment area nicely.
My only concerns are with the price tag, and also whether it will have all features available here in little old NZ.

What are your thoughts on it all?

Nothing very interesting.

I'll start with the specs. Roughly the same as the PS4. PS4 has a slighty faster processor at 2.0ghz and has ddr5 ram as compared to Xbox One's ddr3 ram, but Xbox does have a "speed ram" that it comes with it, about 32mb, yes mb. However Microsoft has not revealed the GPU for the Xbox one. Looking at it now its practically even.

Kinect is redundant as usual. Dont see any other use for it besides the gesture commands and maybe a couple of kinect games.

Design is much like Apple's model, simplicity and a very smooth modern finish. They claimed that is quiet and it does seem rather large so homes with limited space aren't going to like the large Xbox.

The biggest problems are the non backwards compatibility to old 360 games, the always online mode requirement, non second hand games usage and, like steam, games are bind to one account. That and Xbox Live Gold is another 10 dollars more, but thats not really a prime issue.

Microsoft has seen to missed the point of the Xbox console. It is to have a platform for gamers, not your average Joe. They are turning it into a multimedia device by taking away the core values that make the Xbox so great. Not sure what they are doing but if this continues, gaming wise PS4 will have the monopoly in the market.

The launch titles for Xbox One arent that great either, Call of duty is also seems extremely redundant. All I got from that was "you can see dirt behind fingernails!" and "dogs! dogs! dogs!". Forza 5 is going to quite sweet as the improved graphics and simulations are what make racing simulations like Forza great. Plus they can add the new car line ups. Most of the other sport titles are again stale. I do know that Destiny was announced for the Xbox One. Halo 5 also i think. These two titles are going to be the benchmark for gamers to flock to the Xbox. I believe E3 will see these titles on the Xbox One.

At this point. Its disappointing. I expected more from Microsoft, wanted them to improve on the main gaming aspects of what makes the Xbox great rather than remove all that good stuff. So unless Microsoft pulls off a miracle at E3 its PS4 for me.

i think there was something about game discs being locked to the xbox, if you want to share the discs, you have to pay a fee to unlock it to another xbox. that's the stupidest thing i've ever heard.

from what i read, it was so that the money from "resales" go back to developers.

Almost positively going Wii-S4 this gen, unless MS drop something huge at E3 (Rare have something in the works, and a return to glory from them would have me throwing money pretty much everywhere).

But chances are half of the features that they're pushing on the Xbone won't be available in Australia anyway. Top this with the extremely anti consumer practices we've come to know and love from Microsoft (I can't take my disc over to a friends place and play without paying? Really?), subscription based online play, the creepy as **** always on kinect and noticeably worse hardware (multiplats will probably look pretty similar, but first party Sony exclusive should blow Xbone out of the water) and it's looking like a no for me.

I just want to play my damn videogames.

That's the thing. As time has passed, the 360 went from more of a hardcore gaming console to an entertainment device of a broader scale. From what they've revealed about the Xbone, MS seem more interested in competing with Apple, Samsung and Google for control of your entire living room as opposed to Sony and Nintendo for control of which games you play.

But in the end it comes down to games, and apparently Microsoft have 15 exclusives in the works. The question is though, what on earth are they? Do they even have any good in house dev studios left?

at least to me, consoles are losing their appeal. they really need a lot of amazing exclusive titles and try not to compete to be that all in one box in the living room for me to be interested in it.
