Just curious. Wondering if anyone knows what the biggest prize pool has been for an SC2 tournament held in Australia?

Oh and hi everyone. Newish to this forum.

NRG tournament back in 2011 (I think) was 20k, WCS Oceania was 15k

Yeah, if you count WCS Oceania (15k) and it's qualifiers WCS Australia (10k) and WCS New Zealand (5k) then that is the biggest prize pool so far. Otherwise it's NRG, pretty sure.

Cool thanks. Went to the Hots launch in Melbourne. The crowd was phenomenal. Also Barcraft pulled a massive following. I'm thinking that a few more tournaments with decent prize money could really help eSport in Australia. Thinking of rallying some troops and organising something. This is where I do my Mr Burns hands rub.

I dont' remember but it was the best example of overexpenditure to underattention I've ever seen in this game.

I think if Sports is going to get serious in Australia we need to have more major events with decent prize money. The community demand is there. The sponsors just need to get on board

The community demand is.... difficult to gauge. It's not about sponsors or prize money.

Sometimes you get Sydney Barcraft, WCS Aus or melbourne hots launch and those are ****** amazing but you also get all our regular events, online and off, and they never get that sort of attention.

Which leads to one unfortunate conclusion; no-one gives a **** about Australian Starcraft, but there are plenty of Starcraft fans in Australia.

How to fix it? It's not about sponsors or any of that shit, I think it's actually the players/personalities. Excepting Glade, none of us are particularly good or famous outside of SEA. If we can change that then that's the most important step.

Community demand for prizes is certainly there, but that doesnt translate into an ROI for sponsors

Player, event & personality marketability needs a complete overhaul before we'll start garnering the attention we need.

^ I understand what you and Iaguz are saying. I tried to go to that direction when I was toying with the idea of whether I could play games for a living.

It all comes down to amount of effort the player is willing to give (social, marketing, skill level) and someone like Dox to show you the right way to do it.

All true Iaguz. I'm sure that there are a stack of great players out there with personality. Also strongly agree with Dox. Marketing is key. Both marketing events and the players. If fans have players that they can rally behind and a forum in which to do it, then the potential is there. Glade and Pig put on a great show at the Hots launch which I attended. Those guys and others like them could help pioneer this thing with the right marketing.
