The aim of the tournament is to encourage players to be active on the SEA server. As Value has an active platinum SEA account he was allowed to play. The above ruling does contradict this and confuse the issue. It will be made clear for our next tournament.

Our priority is to encourage people to play on the SEA ladder. The ruling was meant for those foreigners who have been using other peoples SEA account to play in tournaments, eg Jjakji using Shieldz's account to play in wT Weeklies.

So being platinum in SEA when your a GM in Korea means you'll be active? And using Jjakji as an example is dumb as he played in SEA just to win some wT weeklies and never came back again. This type of logic doesn't seem quite right :/

Quick Comments
 mGGDaedalus:
I think he used jakji as example of what the rule is meant to stop

If I'm looking at the right account, Value has played a total of 7 games on the SEA server. Kind of takes away the spirit of putting in the 'active account' rule, when we all know he is only here to win tournaments and not here to ladder.

Other than that, contingency plans for larger player pools would be nice. It was 1am (2am in Rossi land) when I went to bed last night, and they still had the final Bo3 to go. Rossi was in hot form until the break from the winners finals until the grand finals and I suspect fatigue had some part to play.

Quick Comments

Nz players hit that earlier eg - Pet and Crimson

Well if that be the case, Mafia should techincally not be allowed to play as he has not been placed in a league for this season. No disrespect to Mafia as he is an awesome zerg, but i think if a player wants to play in the tournament they should be able to.

I am for the korean/foreign players to play in our tournaments. Sure it means we may be less likely to win, but it helps promote the SEA region. Maybe having in place something similar to the Masters Cup could be the way to go (1 every 3-4 is open for all nationalities/regions)

Quick Comments

theres nothing wrong with playing in a tournament unless the rules are against it

Considering that Global Play is no live it is essentially impossible to police any kind of SEA residents only rules
Everyone now owns there own SEA account so at least nobody will be borrowing accounts anymore
So only way to do this will be able to say you need to play x number of games on SEA this season but that would discount players who practice on Korea and it wouldn't be hard for a Korean to do like Value and just play those games on the day

errr, the rules say sea resident, = a person living in sea, i didnt think living in kr = same thing...

and i have been gm on 2 accounts on sea this season, i gave up because its 12 mins + search times and i get a bronze for 2 points so i got removed from ladder for being inactive, i think the point here is, i dont have a choice except to not play on sea, because its impossible to find games for me since my mmr is so high and no one good plays

it's really not hard to play like 10 games to have an "active sea ladder account" in order to play in this tournament

Yes i understand and i agree that players at the caliber like yours should be able to play in SEA tournaments. I was just proving the whole active on SEA ladder thing. Sure he has played only 7 games, but yourself have played none. I know he is not a SEA resident, and that is another issue. I was just trying to explain the whole games played issue.

lol...

i've played none? on my account i went 14-1 this season with 14 wins before going inactive (dropped out of gm for breaching 180+ bonus)
i've played and been in SEA GM every season since it came out, on multiple accounts and before that ive had over 7K ladder games played on SEA.

so no I don't think u understand

I personally don't see a problem with koreans playing in these as long as it states in the rules they are/aren't allowed to do so. For someone like me it doesn't matter as playing mafia is just as difficult as another korean pro, but for someone like pet/delete/fenner/ninja etc it might help to get that bo3/bo5 with a korean pro, as it does offer a different meta game and insight. Sure they play on kr ladder, but its still different. Some of the biggest learning experiences I had were my brief 5-10 games with KingKong, even tho I have played practice games with mafia/pig/light etc, its always good to get different high level practice from people not in the scene, and I believe this helps do it.

I'm also for the opinion that we need our own players in our scene winning the scenes money, so something like the masters cup where 1 in 3 or 4 is open to the world, but instead perhaps have the reverse, where 3/4 are open to the world, and 1/4 is sea residents only. At the end of the day its also up to the admins discretion, as they are the ones running, putting time and effort and most importantly, money, into the scene, and should be able to do with it what they see fit.

this was basically what i was trying to get at

Great run by Rossi yesterday!

Few little tweaks/clarification to rules to be made before the next edition, but rezyn8 and the team should be able to get that fixed easy.

There is nothing wrong with koreans or anyone that wants to play, play in the tournament...

I was just pointing out the fact that I noticed the rules clearly indicated and said, SEA resident's only.

Why bother having rules if they aren't going to be enforced?

So just make the next one clear, for SEA residents only or international. Maybe take a page out of the master cup's book.

Clarify the rules regarding participation.
Enforce the rules regarding participation.

Personally, I'd like to see these tournaments remain open to SEA residents only (that is, residents of SEA territories) only. I can see issues with enforcing this, however; as doing background residency checks on every player in a bracket is sure to be frustrating. I'm sure there's a fairly easy way to go about it though, it just requires some thought about the process. It seems extreme, but once we have a coherent database of who is, and who isn't, an SEA resident; enforcing the rules for these tournaments will be much easier.

So I started writing a response to my feedback suggestions and because there are so many (all in interest of improvement) I will write up a guide on running online events alike Zepph has for casting, Infeza for observing etc.

By no means am I the best online organiser of events but it might make a difference to people without Event Management experience and provide information on things managers might overlook.

+ [Quick Feedback] +
The biggest thing though for me right now around this event is briefing everybody involved in the event beforehand where applicable and being clear on rules and enforcing them.

To avoid:
  1. Issues with which stream casts what (E.G 2nd stream casting Upper Bracket Finals)
  2. Admins leaving because they have to go leaving you with nothing
  3. Unresolvable situations when there are issues with games, walkovers etc.

Admins
  • Know where all the rules are and are clear on each one
  • Have a go-to place to communicate with the event manager if need (be that a SC2 chat or admin skype)
  • Have access to reporting scores within the bracket
  • Are clear on whether they will be required to organise streamed games or not

Casters
  • Are clear on whether players are allowed to decline their games being cast or not
  • Are clear on whether they are to search and ask for games or an admin will organise
  • Have all the necessary sponsor logos and production required
  • Have any sponsor shoutouts or requests for the event
  • Have a SC2SEA.com and/or Team Liquid account with stream attached

Players
  • They will look after themselves providing you are clear with your requirements and rules.

Only a few examples will go into more depth in guide.

Overall I've seen much worse events, we got there in the end - perhaps an oversight with double elim and 80+ signups with how long that would take. Nothing which can't be resolved moving forward.
