There was no registration, I don't know if there was anything to stop people checking out multiple times. But, you could only reserve 2 at a time, and it records names. So potentially, someone sat there for 15 minutes, bought 2 at a time making up a fake name each time. Realistically... I doubt it.

I try not to sound like a dick when I say this, but when you get on System's podcast with a big label saying "@ACLDox" and say "Yeah, there's standing room, I'll follow up on how much", my first instinct is to believe that you are an official source of information regarding an ACL run event.

All the other information is somewhat ambiguous, getting express entry, guaranteed seats etc. NOTHING implied that without a ticket you're left out in the cold until Vanzr posted in this thread saying so after the tickets are handed out.

You know how pumped I was about this event, yelling at everyone to go keep bumping the WCS thread on TL to try and get more views. You probably realise how disappointed I am to find out this information is wrong and I have to hope I get accepted as a volunteer to get in (and they'll more than likely prioritize people who say they've booked flights and hotels over me for that, sadly).

I don't view this as 100% your fault, but I will say that you have a lot of trust from a lot of people here, and are seen as an official and generally reliable source of information for these events. If you get it wrong, most of the time people will just believe you, as has happened here.

Hey, I'm going to quickly tell you about how pissed off I am that you can say that.

You don't know me. There's only a handful of people on this site that know me, but I lurk the forums and follow the scene.

At ACL Sydney, I gave my entire weekend to help out. You know what I got for my efforts? Nothing! Did I expect anything? Of course not, I did it because I love ACL and seeing hundreds enjoy an event that I am a part of is an awesome feeling.

Getting to Sydney was easy enough as I live there, but I did the same thing for ACL Melbourne. I'm only a uni student so I don't have much money to throw around, but I scraped together $600-700 to pay for the trip to spend the entire weekend setting up, bouncing between different roles, managing streams + PCs, packing up etc. Again, I got nothing in return, except I left with an awesome memory of the experience and a huge feeling of satisfaction as again, hundreds of people packed in to the event and had (IMO) an awesome time.

Now, no-one forced me to volunteer. I have staffed twice at ACL events and am now putting in time between events. I'm also going to be staff at WCS for almost the entire weekend. I have not and probably never will receive any reward for my efforts, but I don't expect one.

Reading that shit that you posted just makes me angry that I put in a huge effort and people can still be hugely unappreciative.

Edit: Just to clarify this is entirely my own opinion and thoughts, and does not represent ACL in any way.

This is a fair statement, but as an ACL guy, maybe recognise System was quite frustrated when he made this joke.

I honestly just figure the event area would be big enough for a bit more of a capacity, but as Mayo says, if you assume you make an ass out of you and me (stolen haha :P )

The venue (see original post in April) was locked in long before Tastosis. We only received an influx of people suddenly deciding to attend after Tastosis were announced. Prior to that, people weren't really interested, and I'm certain we would not have filled up the venue.

Maybe earlier ticket sales then? I was booked to come down well before it. I suppose that is my biggest issue

As soon as you finished ordering the ticket, you would have been prompted to print it out! Either way, the e-mail will appear sooner or later.

I too was one of the people under the impression that there was standing room available - it was pretty much thrown around as common knowledge. I feel absolutely terrible as I even passed on that incorrect knowledge at one point. I also feel that there is probably someone more deserving or someone traveling from a further distance than I am that should probably have tickets over myself

If Dox needs a wingman, I'll gladly put my hand up.

As a side note, the two images below are what lead me to believe there was a general admittance.

Only assumption I made was that no ticket no entry.

I even went to the lengths of setting up text blocks before registration had started. So each key stroke auto pasted in my details like address name etc. The main reasons why I thought this was necessary was because i knew it would sell out in minutes because its the largest cyber games event ever held in Australia.

The ONLY criticism I would have to say about the process is I grantee a lot of legitimate people missed out on tickets because a lot of illegitimate people took way too many tickets than they needed and that this registration event should of had a $2 or even $5 fee to weed out scalpers spamming tickets they weren't gonna use. Because of this now there will probably either be sold tickets on eBay or empty seats not filled at the event.

After sales of the tickets for $2 or $5 they should of took the $ and added it to the prize money for the winner of the tournament. Which would of added $1500($5 ticket x 300) or used the money for other great things. The money isn't important its just that the fee would of stopped a lot of scalpers stealing tickets. That's my 2c keep in mind I got my tickets I was one of the lucky ones.

WTF No standing room?!

It was thrown around so often by multiple people that the tickets were purely for reserved seating, there would still be general admission for people who are happy to stand. It was clearly the understanding by the majority of people about the event as can be seen in this thread, and it was even said by Dox on the podcast. Why didn't someone from ACL "officially" clarify when it was being said repeatedly that it was purely for reserved seating not for admission?

So disappointed I can't go now, especially disappointed that the biggest esports tournament in Australian history wasn't planned to accommodate more than 300 people, wtf.

Quick Comments
 JoFritzMD:
I agree with this 100%. When everyone is saying there's standing room why didn't someone in the know clarify this?

I don't think you appreciate that I'm in the same boat here. I never checked up on the standing room because I put more urgency on the U18 issue. So it's news to me as well.

Ok let me clear the air.

Yes I was pissed when I wrote that message and I know that no one who 'works' for ACL gets paid. So if you're offended by it, sorry. But I am just as offended in regards to tickets and standing area. Which is already being discussed and won't need me to talk about it.

Secondly, I think it's funny how people are upset at my post because I don't want to volunteer to help. I just want to point out that I volunteer the **** out of everything I do. I cast tournaments, run tournaments, stream tournaments, I have my podcast, I am now doing the Talk Corner for Tt. All of this I DON'T get paid for and have NEVER asked for any payment in return. The 'income' I get is ads from streaming which is at best 20-30 dollars a month.

To have all this covered, I need good quality internet ($90 / month) premium xsplit ($40) registered version of fraps ($40), premium skype ($10 / month) not to mention money I fork out to improve stream quality for the viewers (Hardware upgrades etc.) And let's not tall about the time I spend setting up for streams (Graphics, documentation, what have you)

And I'll be blunt, I only get a thank you for streaming, and 2 or 3 people have actually said that appreciate what I do. Let it be clear I'm not expecting a thanks everytime I cast or stream, and I don't expect the entire community to be greatful of what I do.

But when I want to go to an event that I HAVE NO AFFILIATION with and actually let someone else do shit and this time, so I can just sit and not worry about a single thing and just watch some ******* Starcraft, I voice my opinion and then get a shitstorm of people telling me to **** off volunteer for once in my life as it helps Esports grow. Hopefully you can see why I am a little pissed off.

One thing to note with Volunteering is that, it is Volunteering. You can do it if you please, no one is forcing you to do so, and if you choose not to, there is no backlash.

I don't know how to end this rant so that's it

@Chadmann: I was never going to get tickets. I was fine with standing and was going to let other people sit as I would be moving around most of the day anyway.

@Rogue: I'm not going to stop doing what I love. I actually have so much fun building graphics, streaming and casting. Hence why I am pouring so much into it. But I also like a break once in a while. Let someone else take the reigns while I sit back and enjoy the ride.

I don't think a bunch of people told you to "**** off and volunteer for once in your life", but I really don't think now is the appropriate time for "me, me, me", either.
