Ok so I'm trying my wiz with a 1 hander and shield (yes, funny I know).

I come across an elite and start my usualy run around some large rock dropping blizzards and hydras, after some time I get a little skull and crossbow over my head.

There is some time limit to kill elites?

Can someone explain please? After another minute of that over my head, I just die.

I have experienced that. If your DPS isn't high enough (or on invulnerable mobs) that's when you're most likely to encounter it. It's basically just an enrage timer to discourage people from exploiting or kiting forever.

Elites have an enrage timer. I'm not sure how long it is before it triggers because I hardly ever encounter it. It gives you a DoT debuff.

Getting far away from them and resetting their HP gets rid of it.

It's called the 'Enrage Timer'

For level 60 elite packs, if you don't kill them in a certain amount of time (2mins or so) they get a buff which deals damage over time to nearby heroes (Yourself and Friends)

The buff gets removed when you obviously kill the mob, or the mob get his health restored back to full (You leave the zone for ~15s or so)

Its frenzy, it happens automatically when you take too long to kill a mob after engaging it.

You will die like almost instantly if you start contact with it, but you can kill it still if it has very very low life. Most times its better to just go back to town and wait for the counter to reset.

Actually if ur resist is high enough, you can tank through it =P

Ive got 900 Resist and 9k Armour buffed on my barb and i seem to regen HP even with the debuff.

Thanks all. Quite annoying, but I can understand, my damage with a 1 hander and shield on my wizz was really bad and I was running in circles a long time. I killed his minions and was on the main guy, then died after I saw the out of time thing.
Since that I have now changed back to my 1k weapon. Still not enough dps but I'll get there....*sigh*

It's a pretty stupid mechanic tbh. Happened a few times, very annoying. Blizzard said they thought so too....and added more in patch 1.3 lol.

There is a time out thing for the butcher aswell, if you take more than three minutes in inferno, the entire floor will light up, Happened to me twice the first few times I faced him in inferno..he was 10% health and the whole floor lit up, so irritating.


Yes it is better to go back and wait it out, because killing the mob then....even if there is only one alive, that you could one shot, will not give you good loot.
