Official Statement from AsG

Hello all.

It's been a rough couple of days for myself and some other members of Ascension Gaming, I really feel like I owe a statement to the community, so here it is.

On Sunday, 'Chobo' tore through the Masters Cup, taking out big names like Ender, Targa, Rossi, yang and beating Mafia 3-0. To most of us AsG guys, this was something that had 'finally' happened, as Chobo had posted decent results taking down big names on ladder fairly often, while not having good success in online and offline tournaments. The next day, several claims by influential community members were made about Chobo being a hacker. I would just like to point out here to everyone that defended Chobo, including myself, did the absolute correct thing. We stuck to our grounds and defended him against the claims he was hacking, which, in truth, turned out to be correct.

However, today, it was confirmed that Chobo, is not really Chobo. That two confirmed high level pro gamers such as Naama and Seohyeon had been using his account to play ladder games, and it was later confirmed by Chobo and Seo themselves, that Seo had in fact played the Masters Cup under Chobo's ID. This is a serious violation of rules and the consequences were huge. Myself, nor any other member of Ascension had any idea about this.

So, I'd like to formally tell everybody... Chobo has been removed from Ascension Gaming. I hope any past perceptions you guys have of us are not tarnished by the actions of Chobo.

Now guys, Chobo is actually a great guy in person, he just made a terrible decision and consequently a huge mistake, this isn't a plea for forgiveness on his behalf at all, in fact, he deserves every amount of rebuke he will get. I'd also like to point out that most of the blame is being pinned on Chobo, and with good reason, but the real reason why Seo played on Chobo's account was because he wanted the money. If you happen to come across him on ANY ladder, he will still have the AsG tags for now, until he can change his name or buy a new account.

I would also like to add in my two cents here. While these past few days has shown how, as a community, we can work exceptionally well together to weed out players like this, it has also shown that there is a select few players whose word is taken as gospel and must never be disagreed upon. Sure, Chobo was a cheater, but he was never a hacker, and the fact that a lot of people passed judgement on him before any sort of conclusive evidence was found, and the way they instantly dismissed any sort of counter evidence and rallied to support the 'chosen few' was incredibly immature.

But alas, it's all in the past. Let's just move on and hope in future we take a more logical and thorough approach to these kinds of situations.

AsGSedz

I salute you ASG for defending your fellow clan mate who you had thought to be innocent. I understand it can some times put you in an awkward situation, but it was the right thing to do.
Good luck to ASG in the future

...ore mature to realise it's a tough call, and it's gonna hurt.

I think it was good for you to defend him and I agree it was the right thing to do. The one thing I would point out however is that in a number of your responses you appeared to be blindly defending him.

I'm personally not convinced Seo wasn't hacking as well. Sure my opinion doesn't count for a lot as I'm not a top SC2 player, however there are many examples that have been detailed that are highly suspect. If you factor in that he is a good player, it's going to mean he'll be that much better at concealing any hacks he is using. If you then also address the motivating factor behind his involvement - to make money, what is really stopping him from taking it to the next level with some hacks?

Hopefully everything else runs a little smoother for you from here on in.

Well, i am more surprised at the fact that those top SEA "pros" like mafia, enderr, etc can't take one game off some no-name korean guy not even on code A. I've always kind of thought mafia as somewhat of a SEA stephano, but I guess that's not the case.

Thats a pretty rude statement, for one you dont judge players based off one tournament..
Secondly Seohyeon is a Korean GM player, hardly something you'd be expecting to vs mentally when you play in a SEA tournament vs another Australian. I think Mafia Enderr etc have proved themselves to the point that they cant be discounted so easily

I did not intend that to be offensive, and it judging from the reaction, I was wrong. I apologize for being rude.

What I meant to say was, I've always held the SEA 'pros' in high regards (in my mind they are comparable to stephano, nerchio, etc, at an international level.) I thought they'd all have the skill to compete decently at code A. It was just a surprise to me that the players I hold in such high regard all lost to SeoHyeon.

The killing my family statement, to have revoked such a drastic reaction, my post must have been incredibly offensive to most of you, again, I apologize.

To answer to this most people say you simply as dismissing the SEA pro's as people who can't compete in the bigger leagues, essentially saying they are trashy etc. No I think we could all agree that we don't have any Stephano's (I mean he is Stephano!) but we certainly have pro's that can hold their own. Pig took out BboongBboongPrime in a BO3 the other night, Ninja has taken Nestea etc etc. Point being a tournament individually is not an adequate indication of skill, hence people took offence at indicating our 'favourite players' were bad because of it.

Don't forgoet 'Chobo' has played in two tournaments previous to this and this was the first he won.

I'm sure people understand what you were trying to say, perhaps a little badly though
