The much awaited SC2SEA yearly awards conclude, Part 2 focuses on Players, teams and clans, let the drama begin!

I would say all nominees are already big winners and in some categories anyone could have won. Without further ado, presenting the SC2SEA awards 2013!

In 2014 Iaguz proved at long last a non zerg can win major tournaments in SEA taking out gold in Arena AvCon and ACL Melbourne he backed it up with some strong performances in minor tournaments include 3x Runner Up for MSi Showdowns, Runner up in the MoK Invitational and a narrow defeat against KingkOng at the City Hunter MSi HotS Launch Event. PiG shone all year long with a Top 3 performance in all 3 ACLs (2x Runner Up, 1x 3rd), a 2nd and 3rd placing in Master's Cup, a MSi Showdown title, 2nd place in Winter Nights Major #1 and 3rd in the MoK Invitational. Most importantly winner of the SEA Championship series 2013. KingkOng the Korean who arrive on our shores in late 2012 and dominated the local scene, his record include 2/3 ACL titles, 5/11 Masters Cup titles (and a runner up), 2/3 City Hunter Titles, Runner Up at the Hong Kong eSports Tournament, and Bronze Medals at SEANA, Arena AvCon and SEA Championship Series. Finally Petraues swept the Auckland Lan scene, won a hat trick of Masters Cups (and a pair of runner ups) and a single MSi Showdown (and 3 Bronze medals to boot!), Runner up at ACL Melbourne and Runner Up at Arena AvCon.

We've listed the achievements of the Major players in each team already, All these teams a choc full of heros of yesterday, today and tomorrow, however there can only be 1 winner. Only one team had the depth required to enter team leagues all year long, only one team had not one full time dedicated Player consistently winner tournaments but two, for that reason Frenetic Array is award Team of the year!

when you think of the sc2sea only 2 major clans endured what was a a difficult year for Starcraft 2 in our region, these are ToR an mGG. ToR became the cool kids club full of big personalities like Spartaz, Pezz and Petrify and numerous fake members such as HuT, Stallion and Chadmann . mGG was the Gentlemen's club so what reclusive at times but always lingering in the background their members ever present behind the scene, either aiding other in the administration of tournaments or running their own, mGG were the glue that held sc2sea together in 2013.

A difficult category to pick, these 3 players were seldom on the lips of those predicting tournament results, however time and time again they proved their worth with numerous strong performance. The winner however stands hand and shoulders amongst the rest as the most underrated player of 2013: Enderr- for his results in Vengeance Cup and WCG.

These 4 players have all shown at times moments of great potential a glittering hope that the heroes of 2013 and going to have a fight on their hands come late 2014 and heading into the LotV era. For this award I cannot or will not award a single winner, they are all winners of tomorrow and will no doubt prove that themselves in the years to come.

Best Retirement 2013

This year saw the retirement of some of the largest personalities of the WoL era, Mafia withdrew to MTG and poker, Light much to the dismay of the community now plays LoL (and more recently poker!), tgun much like the Honey badger doesn't give a f$% and moved onto LoL. Deth's retirement however was easily the best. After withdrawing from the competitive scene he has taken up casting and if the stories are true is so what more active on ladder than he was in the months leading up to his retirement (he even placed Top 8 in ACL Sydney!). For his continual contributions to the scene, I award Deth, Best Retirement 2013

They seem pretty fair to me. Constructively, which ones do you disagree with? I think the people who compiled this did a great job and shouldn't be attacked for their efforts.

I am just saying it would mean more if people actually decided who they think is the top and not just you giving your own player and self awards. As I said in the last thread there were people who didn't even get mentioned who I think personally should have been and I am sure many others feel the same way.

Being a community site it would seem logical to have community nominations and voting rather than just Arnor picks who wins and does silly awards because he wants a pat on the back.

I posted the framework of this in the staff hideout on the 4th of January, I asked for peoples thoughts, a wide range of people have access to that forum, including yourself. There are two types of awards industry awards like the Oscars and popular vote awards like the Logies. These awards are traditionally the former, if you prefer the later you are welcome to do your own.

This is a community site. Not the Oscars or the Logies. COMMUNITY. You ask for donations from people, them to volunteer their time to run events and produce content for you and that's fine..... but their opinion?

Voting and feedback were open to all staff, mvp's, writers, etc, so don't go hating Arnor for taking the initiative on making and posting these awards. They have no formal meaning or reward, just are a bit of fun, and of course opinion based.

You could probably add one or two more names to each category, but results sort of speak for themselves in terms of the top players. Change the order around, doesn't make much difference.

Winning games of starcraft is what counts!

Since the same discussion is had every year about how THESE ARE JUST DONE FOR FUN. Would be great if we could have 1 time where some one doesnt have a hissy fit about it.

Personally I like the way its done with out the community votes, rather having the staff/mvps/ect of sc2sea discussing then choosing...... keeps more suspense to see who got it

So first off I want to say that overall I think these awards are fine. If you want to do community awards, feel free to organise it yourself (do it, awards are always fun). But I will agree with some criticism.

Firstly, only ToR and mGG nominated when at least TCP could have a nomination. SEACL also happened this year, you could talk about how IXL or aLt did and etc. Obviously mGG and ToR are clearly leaps and bounds above but these things should be nominated right.

I like how player of the year was done. I think it's fair to rate Kingkong as the beast of 2013. I kinda feel like the rest is sort of a top 5, which again I think is pretty accurate. You could argue between 2-5 but I think it's giving respect to their achievements and that's cool.

Best pro team, should've talked about the other nominees but yes fray clearly wins. (You need the comparison though, that's what makes it consistent. Some awards have it, others don't). Underrated player, i think Ender and lobo are both fair, petrify? I don't know. Probably could've included a few more people if you wanted (this category is always going to be from a certain perspective though so whatever).

Rookie of the year, includes me, but doesn't include other players that had similar years to me. Where is pezz? Where is MK? I don't understand how you get into this award. By showing great potential when you haven't befoe hence rookie? I prefer last years category, most improved rookie. (Side note, fighto should probably be in underrated player although again that's from my pov).

Breakthrough tournament performance suggest there should be a tournament to go with it. Last year we saw pet at eswc, targa at gesc, ninja at acl Sydney and so on. This year we have... Literally nothing. Just a gif. Just. A. Gif. It should go something like last years. Show what they're nominated for, then have a description of why them at that particular peformance was a breakout. Then you can put the gif in a spoiler under winner and under the gif, NXZ at ACL Brisbane.

I enjoyed the awards I think they're really cool and I'm very happy to win one but when only one or two categories have worthwhile descriptions then it's pretty dumb. It should be a cool historical reference too. I can look back at last year and remember oh yeah ninja had that awesome run at acl Sydney, or pet was actually awful until like September .


Also If we want to do community awards, I don't see why we can't just set them up, I don't know how sc2sea polls work but you could use straw polls or whatever. To be honest I'm keen to go ask glade, kk, pig, pet and iaguz who their top 10 players are and go all kez up in this, because reading the power rank last year was FUN. Sure it made drama but I think it was a worthy addition.

Didnt pet get breakout performance last year? coming from my view point i actually think Alicia has some very valid points in terms of there should be some voting system BUT i also think if everyone got thier vote it would get skewed towards big clans favors. My suggestion is why not have Best Player of the year(or whatever award) voted by the mvps and mods or something then have a peoples choice. I mean more awards are more fun right? :P id like that anyway.

Just like to put i think Arnor still did a nice unbias award shout anyway tho. Im not sure if pet broke out 2013 or 2012 but feel it was late 2012 off memory. plus in the end game is dying anyway does it really matter that much :P

I think the community holds people to way to high of a standard for any VOLUNTARY piece of work they do. People seem to think that the creators of things like this are trying to put in their 100% best effort and consider every single possibility and try to please everybody and have it as perfect as possible. I gotta yell ya, chances are Arnor did what he could be fucked doing, and theres absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I don't really know how to word this properly without sounding like a bit of an ass, but honestly, just because someone doesn't consider every bodies opinions or have a vote or does something the best possible way doesn't mean you all get to throw your 2 cents in. I know everybody is entitled to their opinion and giving constructive feedback is absolutely necessary in environments like this, but sometimes when all you do is give, it sucks an inordinate amount of testicles when people just complain that 1 award could have been done better, constructive feedback or not.

Chances are Arnor threw this together after being tired from work, tried to add a bit of humor in places (Personally I found the gif of nxz funny) and tried to do his best.

Also, apologies if other people helped, I really have no idea.

Tl;dr, people work hard outside of sc2 and when they volunteer to try and do something fun for the community don't bash them on it because in a few areas they could have done a better job

The NBA Power rankings is something that is kept up to date by one or two authors.

The NBA Awards is voted in by media representatives. If you want a voting system but don't want it to be a popularity contest, you simply gather 10VIPs to vote rather then the entire community. This was done for the Power Rankings of 2012, which was supposed to be objective, but the author made it somewhat subjective anyway(and made Mafia quit). Whilst you can appreciate these authors for taking their own time to entertain us with these articles, but I'm sure there are people who wish they could use their free time to do this article differently and in their own way, and argue the accuracy of the merits that are not entirely objective.

However to be completely objective you'd need someone like UHF to composed detailed stats to find the "true" winners of these awards. But that's kinda lame, I say you just get Anor, Nirvana, Eddie, Maynarde, Dox, Chadmann etc to vote and not be allowed to vote for players in their own team etc.
