Lots of KPOP fans in the SC2 scene and I was tipped off about this upcoming event in Sydney, Australia!
Quote:
Ten of the biggest Korean pop idol groups are coming to Australia in November to hold the first all-star Kpop concert in the country. SBS PopAsia has confirmed with JK Entertainment that BEAST, SHINee, 4Minute, Secret, CN Blue, Miss A, Girls Generation, DBSK, KARA and 2AM will be performing at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on Saturday, November 12.
The event is called the K-pop Music Fest, and will be broadcast on Korean TV channel MBC. Although some Australian students have expressed concern for the concert dates to be changed due to school and university exams, at this stage the concert’s date remains in place due to the concert's broadcast commitments. PopAsia will keep you posted on any further updates in what will be THE biggest event in Australian Asian Pop history.
Ticket prices, venue details, line-up... For all the latest info listen to SBS PopAsia on digital radio or online every week night from 5pm. We'll also be updating our site with all the latest, confirmed details FIRST!
Well most students have to decide between exams or concert going. Hopefully the expensive ticket prices should have persuade most of them to study for exams instead of making placards for their idols.

ye heard about this a while ago. Friend and I are going to see if we can get top notch tickets, though being told it'll be around $300. Worth every dollar =D
I will definitely be going! Even though I will probably have exams coming up (medicine course =( ), but I will still be flying up from Melbourne to Sydney!
Feel free to argue my warnings through PM to me since I did it while I'm dead tired at 0 40am in the morning. I may change it to an infraction if your argument is not valid.
Furthermore, I hate the rep abuse. So in the future, if I see addition of rep or deduction of rep that is not valid. I may give a warning or infraction.

Ok i've deleted a ton of posts that were just derailing the thread. In all communities and socities there will always be a minority that go out of control and a certain line must be drawn to keep order be it in school or society, for the well being of the rest of the population. Some might understand this perfectly fine while others don't take this so well and end up bitter, or doing stupid shit or having personal vendettas against their high school discipline master etc thinking hes powering tripping, a full blown retard, nazi admin etc but theres always a greater reason behind it all. In this situation it is to encourage the growth of a community most of us will be proud of belonging. Do we want every thread turning into childish remarks on each others personal preferences when there could instead be sharing of appreciation for similar interests or proper discussion and arrangement of get togethers? Certainty not.
The sc2sea you see today has been a result of this belief and will continue onward that way. Bakainu does a fantastic job most of the time (nobody is perfect) and in the future anyone who negatives rep a moderator for explaining his actions like bakainu who took the time to do so in the post above, will simply get their reputation giving permissions removed, a 3 day temp ban or both.
This thread is about the KPOP festival and for the sc2sea community who enjoy this genre of music to discuss their favourite bands, meet ups and such so lets stay on track
I'd make a joke but it'd probably get deleted. This isn't a school and i don't see society censoring its comedians so harshly, why here? Even then, leave the posts up with the infractions/bans so people can decide for themselves rather than deleting everything.
As for the KPop festival I'd definitely go if I was in syd at the time Kara
I'm all for widening my music tastes (having done a degree in music has broadened my horizons a lot) but it's really beyond me why so many foreigners love Kpop and why the SC2 scene has created this bandwagon that every man and his dog is jumping on. Honestly, how can THAT many foreigners like Kpop? It's worse than the worst of American Pop : /
On another slightly related note, I'm genuinely interested why there is no interest in the Korean film scene despite SC2 having popularised Korean music so much.
Edit: Sigh, being misunderstood ftw...
I'm not trying to shit on Kpop or people who like it. I just don't understand this bandwagon. If it wasn't for Starcraft, most foreigners wouldn't listen twice to Kpop : /

No music is superior to another. And you can't say you are "right" about what music is better or worse than another just cause you've done a music degree (I'm currently doing bachelor of music jazz degree too). Hiphop, jazz, pop, rock, classical, or whatever else music I don't know the genre of, has its own strengths and interesting factors. For example, Hiphop music makes use of no more than 4 chord progressions and repeats that for the whole song. But the lyrics they speak through their recording is sometimes more than enough to move our feelings. You cannot judge music. "I'm doing(I've done) a music degree therefore I know more about music than others and this music is worse than this!" is the worst thing you can ever say as a musician and its an immature thing to say as a musician too. I'll say "true musician" but more like "mature" musicians respect other genres of music and they understand that music depends on personal taste. You can say that you don't like certain music, but don't say as if its a fact that one music is worse than another. Because that is not true.

people have different tastes? so you might not like it but someone else does...pretty simple

"It's worse than the worst of American Pop" doesn't sound like a personal opinion, but more like a "fact" your pointing out.
If you said, I personally don't like K pop music, is ok, but saying it's bad is not the right way to talk about music unless it is actually somewhat giving negative effect to the community or the world.

Ok I see the problem. I was too colloquial in my writing, and was misunderstood. So I apologise for typing in a casual manner, I should have been more precise with my words.
In my opinion Kpop sounds awful. Just like Justin Bieber sounds awful. I'm pretty sure that the majority of the people on this forum would agree about Bieber. So I don't understand the logic where a bunch of people who cringe at Western Pop such as Bieber will gladly listen to an asian equivalent? Sure, people have different tastes in music, I totally respect that, I just do not understand the logic.

Reason: spelling
I don't really like the music but when i'm watching it my ears are turned off and other parts are turned on if you get my drift ;3
Music is not something I watch, rather listen to. Watching the girls without listening to it has nothing to do with the music, and then any attractive girls will suffice rather than them having to be singing.
Not hating on kpop (I do like some... the occasional thing I've heard is quite catchy, similar to western pop), but saying the music is good just because the girls are hot is silly, IMO.

+1
Definetely agree on that one.
I'm a male, and I only care about music, and don't give a damn about how hot the people are.
I don't really listen to kpop girl groups, but more of boy groups such as Big Bang, JYJ, etc.
I just prefer it to other music because I can't understand the lyrics. Lyrics ruin most music for me so I listed to a lot of foreign language bands n_n

do you listen to death metal del? you cant understand those lyrics either
Sure do.
My most listened to genres are death/prog metal, reggae (can't understand what they say lol), some intrumental stuff like jazz fusion, sometimes punk (in other languages like Dutch), some kpop, and stuff like Prodigy where there aren't really any lyrics :P
