Hey guys! Whats up? For those of you who doesn't know me I'm Unthunder.917 of the Perth Penguins I'm well known for raging a lot and always get rage comparisons with EG's IdrA not with skills though. Anyway I've been trying to control my rage for some time now but I'm kinda struggling, I lose to some cheesy build I rage, I lose to something I think is OP I rage, I lose to something I think is annoying I rage. I also rage in tournaments like the BSG and GPD just to mention a few.
so do you guys have any suggestion on how to control my anger or at least reduce the raging??
firstly, your gold league - nothing is OP.. your skill isn't pushing the boundaries of the game balance.
Claiming something is OP is showing an external locus of control.. you need to look into your own game for improvement - take the loss as something to learn from. It's just a game after all... But rage is just a sign of passion - ala tgun.. some people give him shit for raging and what not, but it's not that - he's a guy that puts alot of effort and passion into his game.. That passion and effort often pours out at the end as rage or if you win - a happy dance.
In short, learn from your losses - if it is vs Cheese, scout it and stop the cheese. If it is a unit that you failed to deal with in your tech timings (say, you didn't get AOE units vs Terran or something that can kill broodlords, it's not that the Terran bio is OP either are broodlords, you just didn't engage them properly and/or with the right units.
Other than that, when you feel yourself rage, have something on your desk you can draw your attention to, a toy of sorts or crossword or something, just to turn your mind away from the game to settle down.. I dunno man.. just chillax, more gg more skill..
rage only comes to me when ego comes into the equation (i shouldnt lose to this, this guys a retard, wtf is he doing)
it stopped when i stopped caring about losing by using that to improve, dunno if you're similiar or not
edit: also had a punching bag - shit was sooooooooo helpful, expend all the energy and anger out on it
Ok, I know just what to do. Everytime you lose to something, after you get out of the game, don't think about the anger or anything (so as to stop yourself BMing). Just move away, do 5 pushups, situps and jumping jacks. Then take a drink of water, get a pen and some paper, and go through the replay noting all your mistakes. GUARANTEED TO WORKS
I have Rage problems as well... not so much as raging at the other guy but more of at myself, for making mistakes and it gets detrimental for my play as i go on... Haven't found any way to deal with the rage though

Drop hacks, gotta watch out for dem Drop hacks.
I don't know what to tell you man, I rage all the time.. If the game angers you - or the opponent does too just rage.. there's nothing wrong with it and I wouldn't call it a problem. Of course there's a time and a place and a fine line between a simple outburst and an obnoxious caps lock of racist douchebaggery.
I tend to flip my shit a bit, it usually takes about 2 1/2 TA members to calm me down when my jimmies are all rustled.
But in the end, there is no reason to be upset.
Gotta accept that you are (like 99% of others) bad.
Acknowledge that you screwed up. There is no such thing as cheesy builds, or any other excuses. The fact is that you were the worse player in that game. Acknowledge your loss and gg out. (I find if I don't gg out I feel worse ; Idk why)
After the game, watch the replay to get better.
Losing multiple games can be incredibly frustrating, when that happens.. I usually just stop playing sc2 for a bit and just do some house works.
Raging is fine, just don't let the rage from one game start effecting your next few games. Rage accumulation sucks T.T
My type of rage is also self rage, when I rage I usually do one of the following:
- Let the rage play out before I start the next game and think through what I did wrong, review the replay till I can spot what triggered the rage, then click "Find Match".
- Use it as a sign to take a break, check twitter, sc2sea, TL, reddit etc.
Realtalk though, either find a way to stop the rage all together (I find forcing yourself to start every game with a "hihi glhf ^^" and end with a "ggwp" no matter what you lost to helps) or find something to take it out on. Ask tgun's mouse and keyboard
I used to have a really bad temper and would punch walls if something in a game didn't go my way. Other than just growing up, what helped me was listening to music as I play, and just laughing at dumb shit, just remind yourself that your playing the game for fun, if you're not having fun, take a break, watch a stream ectect.
Before, about a year ago I used to constantly complain in my clans chat after a loss saying stupid things and just crying about the race I lost to, Sometimes i'd even BM my opponent if he cheesed me I seriously thought when I was in gold league, I thought I THOUGHT, of the most overpowered build ever, I actually thought I could beat the koreans with that build and noone would win against it, who knows though its undefeated 3-0
I think I've changed a lot mentally since then, A few tips of mine would have to be, always! once you lost the game say gg, if you talk trash to your opponent once you lost. you just look and feel bad it adds fuel to the fire, If you say gg even if you have lost 10 games in a row, you can say to yourself, at least I was manner. and losing is the best practice aswell
A few seasons ago for my persuit of GRANDMASTER!, I wanted it real bad! At this time I think is when I changed mentally the most, normally rage happens when you lose a game you expect to win, it's fine to have confidence but prepare yourself if you do lose, If I was ahead I'd say to myself, ok you're ahead now, that's good, but he still may win so I must keep trying hard, if he does win I will not become frustrated. Sometimes people think they've won at the VERY start of the game, that's a bad thing to do, if you're playing ladder and it say's your favored this may come in play, but. for all you know this may be a smurf? this may be someone that is WAY favored against you and is just messing around, but even if you really are favored against him, still try really hard! because a lot of people let their ego get into play and slack off and just lose.
If you're still frustrated after this, watch the replay, study WHY you lost, that's why you're frustrated right? because you lost. If you still have no idea why you lost even after watching the replay ask someone who you know is better than yourself and ask them to help you out.
Once you get used to just becoming manner and not raging. It will become a habit to just become alot calmer, frustration will still happen, everyone gets frustrated. But those other tips I gave you should help
Myself, I rage pretty hardcore as well actually. Especially as of late, there are many games recently where I have been ahead on Bases, upgrades, army, supply, workers and STILL lost. Yes, I play Terran and as of recent I am discovering just how god damn important army engagements are compared to other races. It's quiet rediculous, but thats how the game is.
How I have been dealing with it is, looking at the build your utilizing and optimizing it as best as you can. If you lose to a cheese, look at the replay, fill the gap in you build so it won't happen again. The way I see it, if you can fill those gaps... that's one less thing to rage about in the future. It's how I control it anyway.
Pretty much, I turn my rage into a positive. But I will admit, there is nothing more frustrating then losing a game where your opponent clearly didn't deserve the win.
If im raging i jump onto the NA servers cause i into the NA servers with the mindset i dont really care what happens im just gonna play and enjoy my self and i manage to go on 10 winning streaks.
Then I jump back on SEA again go for another ladder sesh
As an exemplary pillar of coolheadedness I feel as though it's my duty as part of the community to share my tips and strategies for becoming emotionally uninvested in competition. PM me.

I am sure this does not apply to everyone but some people that rage have an over inflated ego and think they are top shit and when they lose, instead of focusing on why they lost they feel the need to lashout and rage at themselves, their opponent or nearby inanimate objects. I used to fall into that category but then I realised I am a ******* nubcake and raging won't help me get better and I stopped raging.
If you start the game and you say glhf or retort with u2 or somesuch remark then don't end the game with "OH HURR DURR U R SO BAD U WIN ONLY CUZ OF OP RACE HURRDURR"
Take a 5 minute break between EVERY game. Do something that makes you stop thinking like pushups or something after every game for 5 minutes. It clears your head even if you are really pissed about losing.
I can't remember the last time I gg'ed on ladder. Manners on ladder really doesn't matter, tournament manners are what's important.
Say you lose a game to the most retarded shit you can think of, and you leave without gg or a comment regarding your opponent's skill.
What you absolutely do not want to do after that is jump right into another game. You're angry. And you can't play well when you're angry.
Just go do something else for at least half an hour and then come back. If you're really mad and have to release it, go punch a pillow or if nobody is home, scream at something. These are very good ways of reducing stress.

Just chill, losing doesn't make you a failure or a loser, in fact the best opportunities to learn come from being absolutely crushed by better players. Remember why you're playing (to have fun!) and also remember the people at the top are the ones who have probably lost the most (to a degree haha). Taking a break definitely helps, sometimes having good music to help change the atmosphere/relax helps too!
