Ok so heres the idea, we start our own SEA version of IPL fight club, The prize would be something small like this first week il donate $10nzd to the challenge of say myself playing Light for the protoss title of God of PvP. Basically a Bo7 every lets say Thursday (or whenever) to challenge the champ. The champ would have to accept a challenge from the people who apply to be the challenger every week. People who have challenged within the last 6 months wouldn't be allowed to challenge again. People who show BM would also be stripped of title etc etc.
Pretty much I'm throwing this idea out there to give us another event or another opportunity to improve the skill level within our community. Now I'm writing this at 2:40am in the morning after I finished my study and can't sleep because this idea is keeping me awake so I'll make the thread look pretty tomorrow.
This would also give casters something else to cast on a side note. If you have any thought or anything to add at all to this idea or if your keen for this just throw a comment in the thread and lets gets this ball rolling.
On a side note I call iM's Light as the Champion at this point in time as he won the last SEA fight and I'll call put my name down for a contender here aswell.
also other forms of competition in the thread are encouraged too as many people have had ideas
Peace Stally
I think have like 2 guys dedicated to finding people for sea wars just so it's not based on "oh I'll step up and play i guess" but this would be pretty sick I look forward to seeing it
Did you ever play mortal kombat? You know how you go up a list of increasingly harder opponents?
Well I thought we could have something similar but with sc2 and players
Basically people interested register and somehow we come up with a list with the strongest players like light, mafia and pig at the top as "bosses" and try to give all registered players a spot in the list*
Maybe the bosses can decide this or a seedings tournament - both could potentially be interesting from spectators pov as it could be made part of the ongoing story of the event (boss players / casters could have hype or reveal videos for seedings etc)
Generally follow a format of player below plays player above and winner continues
However I think its important to reward players who get several wins in a row as well as allow people knocked out some kind of opportunity to get back in.
Say player AwesomeNuts won 5 weeks in a row but then loses on the sixth...
I'm not sure how to do this while keeping it interesting and exciting for viewers (the guy who got the five win streak is going to challenge again) and fair to players so if you have ideas
Can do bo1 mini tournaments if there are several new people or people knocked out prior (with no wins) wanting to be added in then winner of that, that week's challenger and last week's winner (this is assuming one per week) can do a round robin to see who goes foward or to see who plays in the bo7 to see who goes forward
Sorry if it doesn't make sense i'm just spitballing here ^^: Help me out on specific rules if you like this idea
But I at least feel this kind of format has a lot of potential to get viewers and players excited and giving lesser known players a chance to earn some recognition.
I feel that prizes aren't necessary at this point too
*biggest obstacle could be that some people may get upset at their position initially - I wish it were so but yeah. It would need all players to come in with a positive attitude generally though some friendly banter would be good for entertainment value
only change i would like to see from format described in OP is rather than the champion choosing their next opponent each week (which could be abused)
a) have someone (you would be a logical choice, if you're donating the weekly prize) designated to choose the next challenger based on some criteria (who they think will attract the most views, who they think has the best chance of winning, other?)
or
b) have the eligible applicants names placed in a poll, winner based on voting gets to play
both these methods solve the issue of who plays the first week or if a champion can't/won't play one week (and therefore forfeits his/her title)
also 6 months seems like a massive time to ban people from challenging again if this is being run weekly, i guess it depends how many people are interested each week.

i guess i need to learn how to play now...

I also like this idea. I just worry that we see the popular 'top' players all come up first so you end up with the last surviving one of these just beating up on the lesser known challengers who don't get the votes at first. Maybe the format can be tweaked if other people think it's an issue.

something I was thinking of was having a match between 2 players for the right to be challenger the night before so more exposure happens from it. The other alternative is I could make a selection team of say myself Maynarde and one other (this is just me spit balling) so that this doesn happen and would avoid the same match up week in week out
[3:00:51 a.m.] some: its simple
[3:00:55 a.m.] smart: invite someone every week
[3:01:13 a.m.] guy: and use it as a entry ponit for newer casters
[3:01:18 a.m.] who owns: like rotate casters evrery week
[3:01:28 a.m.] an axe: challengers can be a list or invite based on a completely arbitrary system
Great idea Stallion Very keen to participate I will donate as well 10$ AUS

A poll sounds like a good idea but the only thing that's worrying for me is that it would become a popularity contest to be able to play (i.e. people with the most friends and fans would always get voted in)

yea that is what im worried about by vote but then if you have someone like me picking people might accuse me of playing favourites etc. i think as a general rule if you are from the same team/clan as the challenger who just would be second string choice type thing. that to me would put a buffer on favourites and clans just putting heaps of votes behind a player. It also spreads the love around a bit
yea as mirth said having a vote for like a top 3 and then having a panel of people to pick could work. i don't think we could put it all on just me id be too open to flaming and i don't like being flamed T_T im a sensitive soul
would defs love to play in this, would also donate cash. My only concern would be how to pick a challenger for it, I like the idea of a mini tournament to decide it, maybe the winner from the wt weekly or just do its own small tourney, as the more tournaments we have weekly the better!
I like the poll idea, just have say 3-5 people you would think would be good for the FC and get the community to vote who they would want. Another mini tourney I think would be too much hassle for it, the poll idea with community involvement also makes the FC feel unique and fresh.
There are many things you could do with this idea. My idea is as follows...
Various people each week are tasked with finding an opponent to have a grudge match against. At the end of a set number of weeks the winners of each of the grudge matches face off in a single elimination tournament with the winner crowned gladiator (or something). Then the process could repeat itself.
Of course there doesn't have to be a tournament at the end, I just liked the idea of the grudge match winners facing off against each other.

Dont think grudge matches is the right term to use there tbh. We're all too nice to constantly be challenging each other WWE style FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
I suggest if you go with the poll that you have an 'up and coming' week were only 'up and coming' players can be voted for. This will allow more people to have a go and also help eliminate 'popularity wars' for voting.
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

Let the panel who decides the up coming challengers be the established Professional players in the scene. The Protoss pros pick up and coming Protoss players whilst Zerg and Terran do the same respectively, see which race has the stronger new generation of players!
We(Established players) don't really have anything to prove in the scene and should focus on doing this ourselves internationally. It is the up and coming unknown GM players of SEA that really need the exposure, experience and motivation. Prize money is not really an issue, these players don't expect to win tournaments and are not expecting any monetary reward - As a player developing into one of the best in SEA back in the day, all I wanted was exposure/experience and respect.
I'm very biased here but I would like to see some of my upcoming Protoss brothers in mGGAlpha and FadeVenosaur a chance to show their worth.

Yeah that sounds good, provided though the pro players follow the scene enough as some (I assume) may focus there attention away from the up and coming players to focus on improving intenationally. I may be wrong tho

Reason: Spelling
Everyone now and then, winners of BSG and GPD get to play against the champ, but with some hilarious handicap. Like mouse only, or having to recite poetry while playing, etc.
@Light that would be good but it also stops people being able to take on one of the top tier people to really put their name out there. This method also comes down a lot to who thinks whos established and whos up and coming. Do you mean name in the scene? or people yet to win that first tournament?
need a definition of what counts as someone established i think
Any of these ideas sound awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is all fine and dandy, however light vs aequitas seemed pretty one sided no offense to aequitas, there should definitely be a pvp tournament regardless and the winner should be able to challenge light for the crown before any format is put into place, gives everyone at least 1 chance at the title before we all wait for 10+ weeks for a single opportunity.
