Hey guys, in my post in the 'helpful tips/tricks' thread I kind of alluded to the fact that vitality is generally overrated by newer players and you'll often see people say "im in inferno but only have 15k hp!" or "I have good survivability as I currently have 45k hp!" etc.
The reality of course is that survivability is a combination of armor, resist all and hit points (With dodge being kind of an interesting one as its proc based and somewhat dependent on luck). These values together make up what people seem to be calling 'effective hp', as in how much damage you can take vs a group of mobs before you actually die. Without the armor/resist all, the hp itself is a relatively meaningless stat.
I've posted before but will post here as well that, 1 resist all will basically add the same as 10 armor, and using that fact, 1 int is the same as 1 strength defense wise (since 1 int = 0.1 res all, and 1 strength = 1 armor).
However the balance between how much life and how much armor/resist all you want has always been pretty difficult to calculate, and for me personally ive kind of just been 'winging it' trying to maintain a decent amount of hp whilst boosting armor/resist as much as possible... until now!
This will really help you determine if that armor that makes you lose 2k hp but gain 50 armor and 20 resist all is worth equipping over your current piece, or vice versa. This tool, in my opinion, will be the sc2gears of diablo 3, it will be useful for EVERYONE trying to build their character for inferno and really help you try to figure out what gear you want to be aiming for in the end-game.
