I know I promised a release on Tuesday, and unfortunately some delays with regional venues have caused me to delay this release. At this stage we're looking at announcing on Monday or Tuesday - fingers crossed. So since people have been asking, I thought I'd create this Q&A thread to keep you guys in the loop, and give you as much preparation time as possible. I'll go ahead and fill out some obvious ones.
Once we do go ahead with the release, I'll consolidate this thread with a front page news announcement.
Q: When is ACL Sydney?
A: The ACL Sydney event will be on April 21st & 22nd. You can read the official announcement over at ACLPro.com.au
Q: Where is ACL Sydney?
A: UNSW Roundhouse. Cnr High Street & Anzac Parade, Kensington, Sydney.
Q: Prize Pool?
A: Same as Gold Coast at this stage. (1st: $1,000. 2nd: $500. 3rd: $250)
Q: Is there an open bracket?
A: Yes. The open bracket will begin from around 10:00AM on Saturday morning, and wrap up on Saturday afternoon, just like Gold Coast. We anticipate a bigger Open Bracket than the Gold Coast event, so we're working on more PC's this time around.
Q: How is seeding from Open Bracket to Pro Bracket determined?
A: For ACL Gold Coast, open bracket players were automatically pushed through to the Championship Group stages. This time around, they'll be able to CHOOSE which group they are placed into, in order of ranking. (ie. Open Bracket Champion chooses first, then 2nd, and so on.)
Q: I won my Gold Coast Regional event, and came 1st at the Nationals. I'm automatically seeded to Sydney, right?
A: No. In order to keep things fair for newer participants, each National event is a clean slate as far as qualifying goes. Your overall "ACL Rank" is used to determine seeds in all regional, online & national events however. So players who competed in the ACL Gold Coast Championship bracket will receive a very generous seeding at their regional events this time around.
Q: I'm looking for accommodation in Sydney for the event, any suggestions?
A: There are some great suggestions over at the ACLPro Sydney Nationals splash page.
Q: What do I need to bring?
A: Mouse, Keyboard, Headphones. Some of these peripherals will be provided, but it's best that you bring your own anyway.
Q: Will there be soundproofing this time?
A: To an extent. At the very least, the stage matches will be 100% soundproof. We'll ensure that non-stage games are played as far away from the commentary desk as possible as well. This is something that will improve over time.
Q: I couldn't find my opponent at ACL Gold Coast
A: All players will be issued with nametags/lanyards to help identify themselves at Sydney.
Q: When/where are the regionals?
A: We're looking at hosting all 3 of the regionals (QLD, NSW, VIC) on Sunday, March 25th. Venues to be announced soon.
Q: What about Perth and Adelaide?
A: We still want to support these regions, but participation levels from the players & venues needs to increase before we can realistically do so.
Q: When is the online round? Is there only 1 online round again?
A: This time there will be 3 online rounds. They'll be on separate weekends throughout March. Tentative dates are March 3rd, 17th and 31st.
Q: Will the Regionals/Online rounds be streamed?
A: At this stage - yes. Maynarde and Doble will stream these events via the ACLPro channel. They'll bounce back and forth between each regional event and catch the best matches from each.
Q: Any changes to the commentary line-up for Sydney?
A: Not really. I'll be rotating more frequently with both Maynarde & Doble throughout the Championship bracket, but the Open Bracket will be those two 100%. The team has taken all of your valuable feedback on board, and we look forward to presenting an even better show as each event improves.
That's all I can really think of at the moment, so fire away!
