It's a prerequisite that you're a good player before you can start to coach, mate.

I personally just study 1 build order, then go and practice for 10~20 games, then i study a new build order and repeat.
For some people they don't know how to, or can't, practice effectively. I know to me going through my own replays and repetitively grinding out build orders is like a chore and I refuse to do it. However, chatting on vent with a mate or top player and reviewing replays together I learn a lot faster and can cut our hours and hours of time grinding out solo practice. It's about paying for the convenience and efficiency - you specify the areas you want covered and get a targetted program to help you out.

I am not biased because of this, I have actually approached iNcontroL about coaching and was interested in buying some hours for a TA inhouse tournament prize because I truly think it's worthwhile.

Leave your opponents frozen in fear with ice as your teacher!

Click the image to open in full size.

A short introduction:
Many people spend their whole life seeking perfection. Some never find it. Ice just does it. If you are looking for someone to teach you how to play Starcraft 2 like a true pro, ice is the one you are looking for. After all, why should you bother learning how to play, when instead, you can learn how to own? Once a DotA player, ice dominated the Singaporean, Asian, and Global scene when he felt like it, and won many tournaments, the more notable ones being ESWC Paris and CAPL, amongst many others. After getting bored, he decided that he had tormented fellow progamers in the DotA scene quite enough, and switched over to Starcraft 2, where he soon gained recognition for placing 2nd in the Blizzard SEA Invitational, securing him a place in Blizzcon. However, fate was not kind to this aspiring young gamer. To cut the story short, his enlistment meant an extremely limited amount of time for himself, much less for gaming competitively. However, ice is back, and just 1 week after starting practice, has managed to get 2nd place in a Starcraft 2 tournament sponsored by Nvidia. Now, here is your chance to have this legend as your teacher.

For more details, please send ice a pm on the sc2sea/teamliquid forums. Rates at this moment are still subject to discussion, and will be confirmed later.
Note: ice only teaches zerg.

I've been offering free coaching for a while and had success in several players making it to Diamond. Working with a friend to set up a site similar to GosuCoaching, etc. So it'll still be free until we get that going

I would LOVE to receive some coaching. I'm a terrible player who doesn't really know how to go about improving and would like some input from someone who knows their stuff. I do think, however, that $20 an hour is a little steep (that's twice the price of a GSL season ticket).

Can't stress enough how important it would be to get coaching from someone who is actually good(eg: multiple high tournament placings) as opposed to misc high diamond/master league people.

JPMoney is right, anonymous masterleague players can teach you how to win a game through abusive strats that will be dated next month or w/e. Someone well know will better be able to teach you how to be good at the game.

Coaching would be a great idea for me personally as there are probably a few things I'm missing that an observer would be able to point out and help me rectify them.

I think minimum 2 or 3 coaching sessions would be helpful to someone as in the first coaching session they can be given some ideas to work on and in the next ones they could show replays of them doing at, and be given more tips.

The discounts would be the way to go as you could buy say 3 hours for 40 dollars and space each hour over a week or so, so you could try out the tips in each session.

hm i really like the idea, will prob ask someone good to teach me next mth when i'm free. but in my opinion, the fastest way to improve would be having the coach commenting real-time on a person's game eg on the ladder. getting the person to scout etc at certain times, expand at certain times, making what unit as what counter---all in game.

some things like common decision making are easy to train. like making banelings when you see reactor barracks, or when and where to expand.

but other aspects can be quite difficult to train, like dexterity ie.clickspeed/apm. for a long game(over 20 mins), my apm is around 100 which is probably much lower than the average pro out there. i can probably train for years and it'll never improve much except giving me RSI(repetitive stress injury).

its just like jumping. if you can't jump, you can't jump. i've seen it while doing NS in Singapore. a person who can only do 1.8m baseline in his standing broad jump will never exceed 2.2m even with significant weight loss and training.

so i guess training coaches will probably have to focus on building placement, decision making, unit counters etc

After having a bit of time to spend laddering a lot more throughout the days I've definitely considered the idea of paid coaching - although the only thing holding me back is my recent switch to Zerg; I want to find the race that suits me best before going ahead with it. So once I've decided on a race I will definitely be paying for some SCII coaching.

So far I've heard nothing but great things re: the TA coaching and will probably go through them when looking for coaching

It would be nice if my coach obs my game, talks me on skype what I should be doing. I think I'll improve after 1000 games.... with that said, I don't think I can afford paid coaching atm but it's really a nice idea. Who says we can't earn while we play.
