Ok so i am struggling a bit with my 1v1's and would appreciate assistance from anyone.
So here is my game play and i would like if someone could give me advice on what i did wrong and what i should do different. I am still pretty new so don't expect professional game play.
I know there are a few things i should have done, like build more pylons for my photon cannons and not let my probes idle as much as they did but beside that what else should i have done?
for a new player there are many different ways of learning how to play starcraft.
I suggest to learn via a macro method (such as thejakatak, filtersc and halby all have video's demonstrating)
I'll briefly discuss how thejakatak method works.
The idea of this method is to make the game simpler in some aspects so that you can focus on more important aspects (ie macro). So to start off with you only build zealots (level 1) until you get the hang of macroing.
So for level 1 you just make zealots, probes, pylons and gateways.
The important things to do are:
1. Don't stop making probes until you have 3 bases saturated (16-20 workers mining at each base)
2. Don't get supply blocked, this ties in with step 1 and 3, coz if you are supply blocked you obviously can't make probes or units.
3. Make zealots constantly (you can stop making zealots if you are trying to save up some money to build and expansion)
4. Keep your money low. Try and aim for an average unspent resources of under 500 (the lower the better though)
So if you manage to do this comfortably then you add in another unit (like a stalker) and then you do the same thing but with zealots and stalkers. Once you can comfortably keep your money low and constant worker production again add in more units.
Also I noticed that you didn't use any control groups in your game so i'll briefly talk about how they work.
You can assign control groups by selecting some units or buildings then pushing control and a number. Then when you push just the number, the units that assigned to that control group will be selected again, and if you double tap that number your screen will center on the objects in your control group.
Also if you select some units/buildings then push shift and a number, the selected units will be added to that control group.
so for example: i put my first nexus on 5 by selecting it then pushing control 5, when i expand i select the new nexus and push shift 5. So i can push 5 every now and then to make sure i am making a probe and if one is about to finish i push e to queue up another one. The same goes with gateways, whenever I make a new one i select it and push shift 4, so I can easily select all of them no matter where they are by just pushing 4. and whenever a unit finishes building i select it and push shift 1 to add to my control group 1.
To start off with these 3 control groups (army, production and nexuses) are probably enough.
Using control groups will help make you a lot faster.
hope this helps a bit, if you got any questions just ask
