Footy had State of Origin for years, the only reason it stopped was because they made the V.F.L the A.F.L and it wasn't needed anymore. SoO still exists at a school level for major states so I don't get why everyone is saying that it is exclusively Qld/NSW.
Also I dont get where all these random facts are coming from, because most of them are so wrong its not funny. SoO is predominately used to determine who the better players are in each state in order to create a team for national events. Its why it still exists at a school level and is one of the major drafting tools the A.F.L uses.
So lets leave it at that, the name is perfectly fine in a historical sense and in a practical sense. SoO exists all over Australia and no the ACT was never part of it, they fall under NSW. The reasoning is ACT has <500,000 people which makes it extremely difficult for them to field a competitive team.
Teams are fleshing out nicely! Start deciding on your A-Team captains guys and I will collaborate full team lists and such into the next thread, as well as find out how much money I will have to put up (I am thinking $100-150 + the $150 from NW, not including other donators!).
Also feel free to give your team a nickname (in rugby the queensland are canetoads or maroons, NSW are cockroaches or blues) or even a logo idea that I or someone with actual talent could have a go at n_n

Excuse me, that argument is completely retarded as this competition requires only 4-5 players per team, which is funnily enough no where near 500000. And the ACT does indeed have enough have enough players to field a team, having atleast 5 GM's willing to represent the Capital.

Actually my post is about the history of State of Origin and the reasoning as to why the ACT never had a team. The actual argument is listed throughout the entire thread.
Why the hell would you post about the history of SoO if you aren't relating it to this competition - which is completely different in almost every aspect bar the name.

because ACT is not a state.
personally i wouldn't mind seeing ACT (or a 'combined territories' team), even if only in B division. but it would be a completely reasonable decision if del decides not to include ACT.
including them as part of NSW would seem less reasonable to me, but whatever

the Australian rules state of origin series (which all states compete in) was running before the rugby league version. please stop using the 'only NSW and QLD' thing as an argument.

i guess i need to learn how to play now...
This is a STATE of Origin. So this is a battle of the states. Territories are not states, so without excluding people from the ACT being allowed to compete based on the fact that ACT is not a state, they are allowed to be fielded in the NSW team, because the ACT is actually enclaved in NSW.
So, actually, it's not unfair at all. If the NSW captain decides on a strong team that doesn't include any ACT players, well, you probably aren't the strongest players in all of the NSW region. The B-teams are created for this reason.
I don't see the need for all this drama when there is something really cool and fun being organised for you.
I would enjoy seeing a combined ACT and Tasmania team even if it isnt in the history of the SoO since it would be really fun. ACT Tasmania team would be no pushovers with the likes of YYJ Jerry and integrand on their team.
And I mean in the end we are doing this SoO competition to have fun aren't we?
With the complaints that NSW already has too many players, adding the ACT members to that just confounds the problem.
also if ACT or ACT+TAS can merge to form a team, that results in 6 teams which I would assume makes rounds nicer because of the even number. just a thought...
