In light of our recent OGM Starcraft 2 Amateur League 1 or otherwise known as the OSAL#1, this thread is to announce the results as well as share our experiences during the 2 day journey we had with the players in the tournament.
First and foremost, the introduction. Only Gaming Matters(OGM) is a non-profit organisation based in Singapore which was founded in July 2012. The 4 founders (currently there's only 3 of us left due to unforeseen circumstance) came together to start this organisation with 1 objective in mind: Centralise ESports, Connect Gamers and Empower Spectators. Some of you might say that's not 1, it's 3! But if you look at the 3 fundamentals our organisation is built upon, the objective the 4 of us had in mind was this:
To build up the ESports community in Singapore. The 3 fundamentals were going to the means we use to achieve this goal.
With that in mind, OGM was found and after months of planning and trying to promote ourselves, the OSAL#1 was created to raise awareness of our organisation and our goal.
Now for a recap of the OSAL#1, throughout the 2 day journey we had last weekend, we have to say that the experience was one of exhausting but yet rewarding. Yes, by the end of the tournament the players and organisers were tired but at the cost of building friendship with our players and learning how to carry out a full tournament (Group Stage followed by double elim) as well as to adapt to situations when things got a bit messy i.e. players didn't turn up, players were kept waiting for their opponents to finish their matches, players with technical issues etc.
Cazza's case was one example where we had to decide on how to react when his opponent pXTroy lagged out in the 10 min mark of the match twice despite the fact that Cazza was going to lose by a huge gap. Results? But before we announce the winners of both Code S and Code A, we would like to bring your attention to a player named Kazi. Kazi was knocked out from the upper brackets in Code A just to fight his way back up to the Grand Finals against Tiy. Even though he lost, his display of fighting spirit and competition only shows us that there will always be hope that ESports will one day rise in Singapore despite the stigma that bounds to it.
And so with that, we would like to congratulate default for winning in Code S and Tiy for winning in Code A of the OSAL#1. We hope they enjoy their HotS beta keys and whatever little time they have left to play the game.
Last but not least, if you have read up to this point, we would like to say thank you for taking the time to read this thread. To further our journey on ESports community building in Singapore, we are going to organise the VERY FIRST EVER Heart of the Swarm offline tournament in Singapore in March 2013. Details of this tournament can be found here: http://www.sc2sea.com/showthread.php?t=7079
We hope that you have enjoyed reading this thread as well as got to know us a little bit better. If you are a strong supporter of ESports and hope to see it rise one day in Singapore, we are definitely one of the organisations you should keep a look out for because we have plans. Oh so many plans but are only bounded by our limitation: a new and small non-profit organisation. Therefore, we need every bit of support we can get from every gaming community in Singapore. Do take the time to like our Facebook Page and take a look at our website so that one day our dream of having an established ESports community may come true in Singapore.
