Hi.
During a match that I played recently, the player versing me did a push that I did not have enough units to hold. I was wondering if I could get some feedback about if i did the right thing in the situation, and some general comments on the match. Advice, criticism, anything is greatly appreciated. Thankyou
Hi VoiD, here are a couple of things that stood out when I watched your replay:
Your build order was a little off (pylon early, core late etc.).
Best thing to do is just go the standard build order in every matchup, which is:
9 pylon
13 gateway
14 gas
16 pylon
17 core
Although your wall-off was great, I recommend not doing it PvT. Their ranged units can attack your buildings and it funnels all your units if you need to get down the ramp quickly.
Constant probe production: Certainly not bad, but needs to be consistent at least for the early game. Don't cut probes to get buildings down. You also used a couple of chronoboosts to build 1 probe then didn't queue another so you wasted the rest of it. That made me sad
In terms of the engagement, you didn't fail miserably. You just need to spend your money better and be more aware of what your opponent is doing. In this situation, get down another one or two gateways and have a unit at the watchtower. Also I like to get a couple of sentries early to FF in case of these shenanigans.
I noticed you dumped 600 minerals right after dealing with the enemy units. Try to gradually spend it as it comes in, especially when you're under threat like that. Always have units and probes building, basic stuff I know but it tends to get overlooked sometimes.
Your probe pull managed to fend off the marines in your base but don't chase them so far away, probes are a valuable resource and even if you don't lose any you're still down on mining time. Your expansion got up at a pretty good time, you had more workers and won the game eventually so obviously you didn't do too bad.
Those are the big things that stuck out while skimming over, hope it helps.
