[Z] Zerg Help/Coaching

Hey ya'll!...

I'm jumping around different races trying to see what suits best. At the moment, i'm trying out Zerg and I was wondering if an experienced player would be able to show me the ropes of the race. I've lost quite a few games due to shear lack of understanding.

If you can help me out, let me know below!

Hey mate Basically, the best way to get an understanding of the race is to take a look at how a higher-level player plays the game; my advice would be to look at some of MVP_DongRaeGu's games from January - June of this year. You should, after a few games, pick up some things that are really obvious, easy-to-understand and grasp concepts (really broad, not like timings; things like "playing defensively until drone saturation is optimal").

Write down what you can, make mental notes of what you can't. . You can then compare these versus another high-level player, e.g. TSL_HyuN and make note of the similarities and differences. Other high-level players could be, for example TSL_Symbol, EG_Stephano, LG-IM_NesTea, Acer_Nerchio, or pretty much anyone who is Code S (I would stay away from "weird" players like ST_Life and FXO_Leenock for now) or has placed Top 16 MLG in the last 12 months.

This can be a lot of fun while you do this, as you will most likely pick up lots of broad concepts, and also some fun little tricks and builds you can try out yourself on ladder.

Good luck, have fun If you have any generic questions about Zerg feel free to PM me

Mr Marzy,

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...1&feature=plcp

Watch those youtube videos. Dignitas Apollo made 4 videos of each race with him working his way up from bronze. He will have better macro than you but he does explain exactly what it is he is doing and what you're supposed to do. Follow his lead, you will find he answers a lot of the questions you already have .

Good luck and remember, you're trying to improve your ability to macro in bronze league. Besides... there's too many zerg in the sea

Good luck.

understanding zerg takes a bit more than something which can be explained, it takes a while to learn the ropes. if i could recommend the way i learnt, i struggled with injects and shiz when i was still learning, so put stickynotes reminding me on top of monitor. that way when you glance up at them you can be like, oh i need to check my injects, or whatever

Like some people above me said, it is very hard to "tell" you how zerg should be played - there's a lot of things that you just kinda have to keep doing over and over again to get the "feel" for when to make drones and when to make units, etc.

If you have any specific questions you can also just PM me and I'd be happy to help, otherwise just watch reps of Masters+ Zergs (they don't have to be top level as long as they have a good understanding of their race).

To add on Aequitas:

A big portion of Zerg inject cycle is how you do it, some people prefer backspace injects, some prefer 55v66v77v idra style, it really depends on which one feels most comfortable for you. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, I personally like 55v66v because I have a razer naga so the numbers that are "hard" to reach like 8 and 9 are easy for me. Injects should usually be the first thing on your priority list.

Droning is quite complicated and is generally based on scouting. Unfortunately, BSG players tend to have some weird things in their build, so you can't really rely on gas timings etc. to deduce what your opponent is doing, so in that sense you will probably have to sacrifice a ling into his army just to see how big his army actually is. Always try to keep the watch tower. Try to keep your army so that it's slightly weaker than his, and when you see him push out in the watch tower vision simply make more units.

For a basic composition, pick something gas heavy and revolve around it - things like infestors/mutas. IMO you should probably stay away from roach/hydra because of its general passivity and how different it is from the current metagame. If you go mutas/infestors you will have a lot of excess minerals that you can use to make 1. drones/hatcheries and 2. lings/roaches etc.
