I'm trying to expand into some good builds that I can implement into my game. However, I've been told I can pretty much 4gate until gold. Does this seem to be the case?
Would anyone be able to provide me with some good builds that will help me to move up to the next rank?
Kind regards,
Marzy

haha I just realised it was you I gave the coaching session, my bad =D, well the offer still stands.
To answer your question 4gate will only take you so far. In the higher leagues it's good versus protoss and relatively ineffective against the other two races by comparison. I've said this before though, good macro will take you out of bronze league rather quickly.
For the time being focussing on just one build will allow you to learn some of the finer details such as micro and mechanics. Even I still stick to one of a few different builds per race.
As I'm plat my comments are obviously less informed but at the higher levels I suppose it comes down to how it is implemented more than what the build is.
1. Make probes constantly (until 3 bases full of saturation.)
2. Make 2 or 3 gateways
3. Constant zealot production
4. Expand when you get 400 minerals (you may need to stop zealot production for a couple of seconds in order to afford the nexus)
5. Repeat.
if you are ever floating too much money just build some more gateways for more zealots.
The most important things are to have constant worker production and to keep your money low.
Edit: @ Acies: no; three bases optimally - max saturated. (around 16-20 * 3 + 6*3 (gas))
I'd really urge you to stay away from 4-gating. The major reason behind this is anything that is all-in (or meant to be all in at the very least) doesn't really promote a full learning experience of the game.
The best thing to do at low levels is expose yourself to as many situations as possible. What would be amazing is if you learnt how to 1-gate expand in PvT, Forge Fast Expand in PvZ and 3-Gate Robo in PvP - however, that's likely going to be a bit of a mental overload.
3-Gate Robo is your best bet. It teaches you how to build probes, it lets you experience collosus - what more could you want?
(When I first started sc2, I 3gate robo'ed from bronze to gold and it was easy to do. I learnt very quickly as protoss - not to put the race down but in the lower leagues, the focus on a 'deathball' really gives you a lot more margin for error)
I'm one for 4 gating in bronze league, people say it doesn't help with macro, but it does, you have to keep you minerals low, and avoid supply blocks, and have half decent unit control, start small and work up, if you can't get to silver off a strong 1 base all in timing then there is areas that really should be first before steping up the difficulty by adding more bases and units.
you should be able to keep minerals below 300-400 (except before warp in's) rarely get supply blocked and have warp gate finished before 5:45 every game.
at that point you will be silver and have better mechanics to do the different builds.
The only other build that would be decent is a stalker heavy 3 gate robo opening because off all the weird, and bs mass void type builds that happens in bronze league,
4 gating bypasses that because of how fast it hits if done right.

If you can build a metric shit-tonne more units then you opponent then it really doesn't matter about unit control. Lower leagues Macro is more important then Micro imo

@Bourkes I can't see there being much of a difference between macroing of 1 base as appose to 3. You just have to build more gateways and tech structures, hole the 'E' button for probes just a little bit longer, and build more units just a little bit more. Saying that you should learn to macro of 1 and then move up seems stupid to me because you just get more money and build more stuff. It's not exactly but it's really close to being the same.
I personally would recommend fast expand builds. I feel like it gets you in a better position mid-late game. If you can scout there cheese/all-in before it happened (if it does) then you are in a great spot

Currently a build that I'm practicing to get it perfect is 2gate robo then expand, for PvP matchup. For a PvZ matchup, I would build a pylon at my natural then scout what they have, pool at 13 i think , i'll make a forge first then drop a nexus at 16. If I see a hatch first, I'll drop Nexus @ 16.
Newbie here. Where can i find a detailed build order for 3 gate robo? cant seem to find it.
Thanks
