Why Australians shouldn't be allowed in SEA tournament.
I think it is wrong that players from australia and maybe new zeeland can play in SEA tournaments. I think it is pretty obvious - even the name is southeast asia server why can they play?
Some of the reasons I come up with are lag, and the competition between seasian nations.
If Aaustralians can play in our asian tournaments they will have worse latency to the server. Because why you might be used to it, the actual lag it could potentially cause others wouldn't be used to. Like I said, we're SEAsia server at this time, and will see how many issues are caused by lag and see if we can implement solutions to that so that when we expand to Aus and NZ, we can handle it better. I'm sorry that it means you won't be able to play, but this is how we should approach it, slowly and making sure we're doing it the right way for the asians each time, in terms of giving them the best games possible. The viewers and asian player suffer because of lagging players.
I thought long and hard about what regions to include in SEA tournemants. I wish we could include everyone but that isn't the reality right now. There are a number of challenges for including ANZ which include ease of communication, scheduling, latency affecting the quality of games, checking the legality of prize money and competition for the different areas of SEA and so forth. I think we should stick with my original plan of just the Southeast Asian regions. We can still be considering our options to include ANZ for SC2SEA events as this is something that most of us definitely eventually want to do, if it's the right move to make for us to make. This is not us hating on the countries and ANZ players, this is just the best move for us to make as a community at this time.
thank you

From all the tournaments so far I haven't seen any lag complaints, or lag in game (Expect for the personal lag issues, not server) Also, we don't have a ANZ server, so we are forced to play with you guys, and like you said we have gotten used to the lag (If any) and the same thing can be applied back to you. You have had just as long on the SEA servers as us, why haven't you gotten used to it?
Personally I feel your rant won't do a thing, there is a huge ANZ player base here and if you just exclude them from all the tournaments, you will find you tournaments will be very small in terms of players, and not only that, this site itself will lose traffic if we are excluded.
(Which means we have to go back to CG to revive the SC there -_- )
I believe there are Singapore sites that hold their own tournaments, stick with them if you want to play only SEA players and not ANZ. But this community is for the ENTIRE SEA region, not a specific section.
dont know if i should respond to this seriously but ill make it brief
Lag issue - The game is such that lag affects only the laggers rather then all the players in the game. (Unless the drop screen comes out every 5 seconds in which case they will be dropped anyway) So your whole lag argument is invalid. If anything ANZ players are playing at a disadvantage whereas us Singaporeans with our 12ms ping have quite a significant advantage. The key point is players who don't lag are not affected by players who do.
Name issue - This is also retarded. You don't exclude stuff based on the name alone. Calling it the SEA server imo was for simplicity reasons. The SEA and ANZ server is a mouthful.
Player database - Lastly i have no doubt the SEA server will die the moment ANZ is excluded and we will turn into a worse version of the LA server. Also, the ANZ players are generally the more vocal and contributive players compared to the other nations. The culture in Asian countries is just such that they don't post on forums and participate as much as their western counterparts.
Let me make a post on why people like you shouldn't be allowed to make posts in any forums:
1) Quote "checking the legality of prize money" ???!!! Before we do that, we should check the the legitimacy of your existence and your claim! From your post about competitions, I have a strong feeling that you are one of the smurfers/cheats who was banned from sc2sea (by an Australian/s) who has successfully changed your IP address and have decided to come back to post some random comments. Also, it'd be interesting to see where most of the prize money contributions came from. SEA or ANZ...
2) Australia's internet is better than most of the South East Asian countries bar maybe Singapore but then again, in terms of size, Singapore is the second smallest country in SEA after Brunei. Most lags that occur when playing usually comes from players in the geographically correct SEA region. I know for a fact that internet in Malaysia and Indonesia is much worse than internet here in Australia. I play with friends from Malaysia very often and even with the best internet package, they still lag. It may be more expensive here but the quality's better. So please, don't use that crap as an excuse. I'm able to freely play in the NA server with NO lag whatsoever apart from when I am downloading a movie and playing at the same time. Compare that distance to the distance from Australia to the centre of SEA.
3) Asians are generally tighter in terms of spending their money. Australia may have the lower population for it's continent size but the percentage of players from Australia in the SEA server will make the 'true' SEA countries embarrassed at their contribution. It's just built into us (yeah, I'm asian and an ex-Malaysian) to buy pirated copies of stuff more often than not. I'm not saying that ALL asians are like this but life is harder in the Asian coutries and not as many people can fork out that much money for an original copy of sc2. They'd rather stick to DoTA or even sc1. I know of many friends who aren't playing sc2 because the pirated copies do not allow them to play multiplayer. (lack of LAN functionality....) ANZ players make up the bulk of the SEA server and to take the ANZ players out of this server to be placed into an ANZ server is an unnecessary cost for Blizzard. Until the geographically correct SEA players start increasing to a sustainable amount, you wouldn't see ANZ players separated from the SEA server.
4) Like what Nirvana said, ANZ players contribute so much more than the Asians do to the SEA community. You do see some good Asian casters but you'll find more ANZ casters because it's just in their nature that ANZ people are more outgoing. They enjoy these activities. Without them, competitions will be dull with streamed games rather than casted games.
5) Lastly, you're an idiot. I hope you gained as many IQ points reading my post as I had lost reading your post.
