Back with another tourney recap, its been awhile but I managed to find a few spare minutes to write this up amongst the 40 other things I'm doing
Anyways, for those that are completely out of it, Yesterday was the Finals of the City Hunter Anniversary Tournament, and it was pretty awesome if I may say so myself.
First up, the format was 8 groups of 4, top player advances to a Finals double elim bracket. Everything Bo3 except finals which is Bo5.
There was also a Silver division and a Gold division, which was seeded last week in the qualifiers.
Placings 4-8 received a remote controlled helicopter!
Quick note, after Mafia was knocked into the losers bracket by deth, he went 10 straight games without loss, and managed to defeat Light twice! Mafia hasn't really had much tournament success in sc2 despite being a solid player, and its good to see such a deserving player win such a major event (with a damn nice prize ^_^)
The silver division had a few upsets as well, I did not follow it as closely as the Gold (mostly due to Light and Mafia ripping it up :P ) but TASanchez and TAlkori were probably favorites going into the event, unfortunately lkori was knocked out early by Spiritlynn, and whilst Sanchez won the upper bracket, Kayz managed to take 2 straight sets off him to win the Laptop.
Finally, thanks to Sixth for bringing his projector, we managed to set it up in one of the VIP rooms at City Hunter Chinatown, and most of the people still hanging around at the end of the day chilled out in the room and watched the last 4 rounds of play. Was an awesome atmosphere with a bunch of the best SEA players as well as lower level players able to sit and just talk about the games.
Not the best photo, but its us chilling and watching some SC2!
Thanks to City Hunter for hosting the event as well as Chris and Dave (The admins) for helping out on the day
Nice recap Benji!
I don't think I introduced myself properly, but I was the guy sitting next to you for half of the MaFia/Deth games. And also was the guy standing behind Iaguz watching for a bunch of his games, if he reads this.
Was a fun tournament... definitely want to turn up to any future events that don't cater exclusively to excessively good players.
