May I ask for master Zergs' advices on how to ZvT ? Like your favorite BOs for the matchup and such. I just can't figure out what really to do in this matchup. I have generally no problems beating low Master and Diamond Terrans but when it gets to higher master terrans, I have no idea what to do.
I have most problems with Terran mech play, even worse if he goes pure mech(Hellions/tanks/a few thors/vikings). I just can't figure out how to engage this ball. I've discussed with a few other friends who said the only way outta this is Nydusing his main to catch his army outta position. Is this really the only way ?
Whenever I go mech vs zerg I tend to lose if they just MASS roaches and have a few mutas fly around my bases picking off stuff. Mech is very immobile, if you can keep me from advancing onto your position you will win.
Havent had Nydus used against me for a long time but yes, nydus will be very effective vs mech. your ling/drone/whatever scout sees terran army coming to your main? no probs, nydus his main and force army to retreat, his army comes in BAM back to nydus.
Rank 100 Bronze Zerg here
Most zergs go ling/bane/muta composition against terran in the mid game and transition into brood lords -> ultra (after forcing vikings). If terran is going mech, he will push much later so you should expand alot. One mistake for vsing mech is to stay on lair tech and rely on mass units like in brood war. This does not apply in SC2 and the only reliable way is to tech fast to hive and get brood lords quickly while stalling with mass roach, as a mech push isn't strong until it gets insanely large in numbers. Once you get brood lords, defeating mech pushes are easy.
If he has vikings, then repel them with corrupters with your roach/brood lord army.
Ultralisks kill mech... Haha get them.. And broodlords... Haha for me i go early aggression to terran... Not terran pressure me haha
I like making statements with dots at the end... Haha its so funny... I still use more dots because its serious... Haha I laughed again... I dont know why im laughing... But its so damn funny haha

you need to scout. If you've been blindly going muta bane ling and he moves out with mech ur screwed unless u catch him clumped up unseiged.
So make sure u establish hes going mech early by counting his production facilities. If someones has 4+ rax with addons then hes not going heavy mech and muta b-ling should work fine.
If he is going mech off 3 fact. you immediately know the only aggression u have to worry about for a while is blue flame helions. Go to 4 base, start upgrading your roaches, upgrade drops and go to hive.
Stop building mutas after your first 6-7 unless you're VERY confident in your micro and multitasking. Otherwise you'll just lose them to a few stray thor volleys when u arent looking.
Cover every expo in overlords pooping creep so u kno when he expands and sac an ovie every now and then to check on his army size.
As long as you stay up on your macro whilst managing to do all this you will be able to crush any super early random 5 tank + helion push he sends just by using pure roach. Anything thats a bit bigger but still relatively early you need to be ready with most of your roaches to drop on his main the moment he moves out of his base. You HAVE to delay his mech getting to your base until you have broods + infestor out. Important when engaging with brood infestor is to not let the tanks get away. You have to kill as much of his army as possible before his vikings get out.
Once vikings get out, as long as they are microd in even the most halfassed way they will destroy all your broods. This is why i rarely get more than 4-5. At this point you need to switch into ultras, which if used to engage the main army u need to do on a good angle with OVERWHELMING numbers of ultras. If you are just a few ultras short, complete destruction of an army suddenly becomes killing 4 tanks and 6 helions for 12 ultras. That is NOT a good trade.
Oh also if they are really good at defending the drops just with turrets and a few well positioned tanks you need to practice dropping right onto the tanks/sniping turrets from the lowground and little things like this. Alot of zerg players i notice have really bad unit control in tricky situations like this cos they aren't used to it. Just practice it on a friend to get better.
And if the defense really is impenetrable and the push starts coming at you before ultras or broods are up, well you need to use your zerg multitasking abilities: Don't get supply blocked and keep injecting and upgrading greater spire or whatever and u need to decide: Can I get broods out by the time this reaches my base? If the answer is no then start PUMPING roaches and banes whilst your army just pokes at his advance, hopefully forcing him to seige up and slow down his push. Sending off 6 or so roaches to stay between his army and his base is also handy for killing reinforcements. If he doesnt take the bait to seige up and is a smart terran who knows that tanks out of seige mode DESTROY roaches, then you need to charge him while hes balled up, preferably from 2 angles in a wide open area. You want to drop several ovies with banes onto the tanks while your roaches and banes on the ground swarm in.
Note: Ovies loaded with banes are SLOW. You need to send them in so they hit the army at the same time as the roaches or their damage will come 2 late.
This all sounds pretty comlex, and it is. It takes practice to be good at defeating terran mech. But it is often one of the easiest matchups because the terran has given up his ability to apply strong pressure throughout the game, instead opting for this crazystrong push. So all the zerg needs to do is macro properly, not get distracted by helions. And then make sure they engage this 1 fight properly to win.
Hope this essay helps lol.

Basically, stalling the deathpush with Roaches -> Tech to BLs -> Transition to Ultras has always been my standard strat vs Terran mech. However it's incredibly easy for terran to ' blind ' counter BLs(If he doesn't know scan exists) and get out Vikings in advance, not to mention Thors do quite decent vs BLs as well. My BLs could never really do enough damage so my ultras could work.
Especially the muta point - Once you get a tech don't go crazy over it. Make some mutas to punish no turrets or possibly force some more, and respond to what the mutas see accordingly (mech with enough factories to do a heavy 2 base push -> roach, defensive mech -> expand and drone, crawler/roach at bases to defend hellions, can either rush for broodlords and broodlords/roach, keep some corruptors for vikings or power roach upgrades with neural parasite too.
Remember to magic box mutas vs thors too (have mutas unclumped -> click past the thor -> press hold or stop. if running away, click far away on the minimap so they don't clump if retreat is needed.
How i play vs mech is a more roach/muta style into broodlord (much later, but muta upgrades translate over) but that's not advised and it's probably not the best idea especially on some maps. I don't vs mech enough anymore anyway.

1base bane bust would be really risky, while you will have a small timing window on 2base econ bane. Correct me if I'm wrong on this as I play Terran mainly.
Personally, I've had a Plat Zerg attempt a 1base bane but I opened 2rax and scouted it ahead, putting down my expo CC behind the CC and a bunker behind the rax.
