Best tips to make me a calmer player ( with a sidenote terran question)

Hello (:

To start, I'll be honest, playing zerg is starting to really piss me off. I'd say I'm a high plat trying to push into diamond and its not working. I'm a calm person in real life but right now I feel like if blizzard could see my chat logs they'd ban me off their servers for good, I've become a toxic player and I don't like it.

Whenever I start to play knowing that if I win all these games today diamond beckons, I get angry. I lose to things that I probably shouldn't and get even more angry(my pet hate is mass marine/rauder with terran on 3 base). My question is how can I become a calmer and a better player? What are the best ways to do this?

I'm just not enjoying playing right now, and I've started playing Toss on NA (Gold at the moment) just because I'm not enjoying Zerg, even though the patient play of the other two races makes me want to crush my skull in. The sidenote question is by the way, how can you terran folk play a race that bores me, its to plastic and standstill for my liking but I want to know how you guys find it enjoyable

Thanks
Saxx - IdrA wannabe

tl;dr: I rage at this game, how do I stop?

take a break... come back when you feel less toxic...
Or do something physical between games.... like when you lose a game and u get mad go do some pushups or something.... When you feel like your getting mad just stop... Its a game... you don't need to let it control you.. and by releasing your anger into something more productive you should feel better... then you can come back look at your replay and maybe figure out why you lost...

If it's starting to feel more like a chore than a game, it may be time to take a short break. Play something else for a while, you'll come back feeling much more refreshed and less irritated as a result .

Having played CoD a few times (piece of S*** game), I have managed to develop a few ways of dealing with the anger:

Step 1. Pause, try a new strategy (Not pissed off yet)
Step 2. No Strats are working, pause then start yelling at the game, with mic muted (getting pissed off)
Step 3. If you feel abit better then consider joining the game again, otherwise procede to step 4. (You are calmer or you are still pissed off)
Step 4. Have a shower, the hot water seems to magically wash away the tension (and sweat.
Step 5. Prepare yourself for a whole new start at game with a nice cold glass of water, perhaps a snack (chips would me mine), then sit down at your computer.
Step 6. Go into a game, You will find 1 of 2 things will happen, you will play the game and find that you are doing better/are more accepting of your defeat (which to me is doing better) OR You will not be accepting of defeat and are probably just having a bad day.

Remember that its your perception that leads you to your anger. So, fool yourself.

kinda ironic that i am going to give some advice on this topic :P, but try not to take the game personally, i used to trash talk everyone and be a real loser to everyone when i lost, so i took a brake from sc2 completely and decided to keep it as a small hobby and i found when i returned, it was much more enjoyable to play (win or lose) and i was cool to everyone no matter the outcome!
i think tho whenever u lose at A game, you are gonna get a little upset/mad. its called being human, but dont let it control u, control it

Well you're not trying to be a pro gamer (and even if you are you're a long way off it), so you need to remember it's a video game and enjoy yourself. If you don't enjoy it there's no point putting yourself through the frustration and stress. Maybe taking a break will help you out this way, come back and try to focus on enjoying the game itself rather than just that diamond badge.

It always surprises me that some people have a serious problem with anger in the game. I've been lucky in that regard, the most BM I've been is not gg'ing a cheesy strat (which is hardly bm, but that's another topic) and nowadays I manage to end every game with a "ggwp!", no matter what happened.

I think the easiest thing to do first set a personal rule that you either won't say anything in game, or simply say your greeting and farewell (for me, that's "hfgl!" and "ggwp!"). Personally, I ignore questions in game regarding where I live, previous games played, etc., and relegate those to out-of-game discussion.

After that, you need to chill the **** out and realise that first and foremost, you're playing this game for fun. You NEED to find the lighter side of things if you want to enjoy yourself. Until you're playing for money, you really shouldn't be taking it so seriously. By all means, do everything you can to improve and absolutely focus on improving, but in no way should you sideline enjoyment.

I really think the overarching issue is just an attitude problem. Until you're comfortable with losing as part of the game, you're going to have a difficult time playing it for any reasonable length of time without getting angry. Some people are better than you at something, big deal.

Just try your best to gg after every loss, I know it sounds dumb but when you type gg and leave it's like opening a valve for your rage, even if it's a lame cheese or something just type gg and leave the game.

This way you don't look like a raging kid and also you'll let go of some of the anger. Other than that just try to take a breather whenever you feel a build up of rage, maybe get a punching bag or some free weights or something, lol.

I can't tell you how many times I've been playing an off-race and beat someone with a strategy that has been done to me loads of time and I suddenly realize how easily it would've been for them to stop if they had properly scouted it or built different units etc, it's a very eye opening experience.
Try to keep in mind that unless you're a top Grandmaster there's likely 100 things you could've done better to prevent the loss.

Don't ask how to stop being angry, instead ask yourself why you're getting angry in the first place. For me, I'm always angriest at the game when I feel I have the most to lose, or there's more riding on the fact that I have to win. The feeling of needing to win could be for several reasons such as:

You feel you're more intelligent/better than being in platinum, a division which is regarded as bad.

You feel like gaming is what you've always been good at, and now they you keep losing in the thing you're good at it can be damaging to your ego.

Having an ego in general, try not to in gaming.

That you've currently put in all this work and it's been for nothing since you can't even get out of (insert league here)

And many various other reasons for being angry that we have deep down inside.

Conversely, the times when I have been most stress free was when I hadn't practiced in weeks due to other things, and had no expectations riding on my abilities. So if I lost I genuinely didn't care, because hell, I haven't practiced in weeks, of course I should lose!

So my advice? Take a look at why you care if you're good at this game or not, and chances are, your answer will be why you care if you lose.
