ETL Update #1

Click the image to open in full size.
By Jordan 'Soundwave' Hamburger.

Evenin' everybody, this is ETL update #1, where I give you the latest on all the members of Eternal eSports.

Santi moves back to Colombia

Everyone's favourite Colombian, Santiago 'Santi' Pinzon has moved back to his home country for "at least a year". However, he is still a member of ETL and will be representing us at all the Colombian LANs he attends. Santi also expressed a desire to go to an MLG one day, which we certainly wish him the best of luck in.

Jerseys coming soon

Thanks to the efforts of Luke 'noTTuh' Hutton, it is very likely that within the next few weeks, jerseys for Eternal eSports will be able to be distributed. No further information is available at this time, but I'll keep you updated.

Welcome back Branno!

ETLBranno is attempting to get back into StarCraft 2 after quite a lengthy break. He is currently playing casually in Heart of the Swarm, but has expressed a desire to get into in Wings of Liberty before the new year.

Recent Results

Chupacabraj and Eos both made Ro4 of BSG a couple of weeks ago. We were denied an ETL vs ETL final as both lost to their opponents their, however, they still made a good run. With Chupacabraj improving all the time and Eos being promoted to Platinum, it is likely that Chupa will join Eos in Platinum league before the return of BSG next year. They left their mark, although they may not have won like they wanted. But soon they'll be owning it up in GPD instead!

Recent Promotions:

Luckyshyt >
Eos >
Chupacabraj >

ETL is getting stronger all the time! Eos in particular has huge potential as he is already trying to invent builds and expand his repertoire as a player.

New Members:

BoardingPear
ADMachine

Friend of ETL members sRninja and karleb, BoardingPear has also decided to join ETL. It's good to have a dedicated group of real life friends within ETL, and I believe SouL and DuSt are also acquainted with them.

ADMachine was recruited by Typhoon. I haven't had much experience talking to ADMachine, nor have I had the opportunity to play him, but he has previously finished seasons very high in the GM ladder, and surely contains great skill. Although he has recently been focusing on Heart of the Swarm, he is someone all of SEA should look out for.

Swiss Tournament:

http://challonge.com/etlswiss

I ripped off mGG (sorry guys) and decided that in order to promote friendly competition and a tournament mentality, ETL should have a clan tournament. Unfortunately DuSt and Wehrmacht are unable to participate due to internet issues, and SouL is also having net trouble of his own. However, the rest of the players are having a good time and have expressed their approval for this idea.

Swiss Tournament Results:

iNeX vs Click the image to open in full size.Santi
+ [Results] +
iNeX had a tough challenge against long time Grandmaster player Santi. I don't know how the games went, but despite TvP being Santi's worst match-up, the brave iNeX was unable to score an upset.

Santi wins 2-0.

Luckyshyt vs Chupacabraj
+ [Results] +
Luckyshyt was heavily favored in this match, however, Chupacabraj has been improving very quickly, and is not to be underestimated. Luckyshyt played somewhat sloppily in game 1, losing infestors many times when he shouldn't have, and I also must give credit to Chupacabraj for some very well done multi-pronged drop harass. Ultimately, Chupacabraj out-multitasked Luckyshyt, despite being behind on bases all the time, he never gave up and kept macroing until Luckyshyt was starved out.

Game 2 came around on Ohana, and Chupacabraj did a very well executed and unorthodox 4 thor rush that I admit may even be capable of catching me off guard, if not outright defeating me. Luckyshyt could not mass enough roaches in time to deal with this threat, and was forced to tap out, giving Chupacabraj the upset victory.

Chupacabraj wins 2-0.

karleb vs BoardingPear
+ [Results] +
BoardingPear played very greedily, droning up to two base saturation with nothing but 2 zerglings as his defence. Both times, karleb was able to hit a timing before any units could come out of BoardingPear and was able to punish his greed with roach attacks.

karleb wins 2-0.

DeeCN vs ETLBranno
+ [Results] +
Branno was coming back to StarCraft 2 after over a month of absence. DeeCN is an impressive former Random player with a lot of talent, and he's already beating some GMs on ladder. I predict DeeCN has a promotion coming his way.

Game 1 was on Shakuras Plateau. Branno, having recently come back to the game, was unprepared for DeeCN's relentless drop aggression, with Branno's full skill having not yet returned.

Game 2 DeeCN went mech, and Branno, who was going for a roach/muta build anyway, scouted the mech and decided to turn it into an all-in, which was able to crush through DeeCN's not yet fully developed mech force.

In the 3rd game, DeeCN again laid on the drop aggression, in a fairly standard marine/tank TvZ style that Branno was unable to cope with.

DeeCN wins 2-1.

ETLnoTTuh vs ETLTyphoon
+ [Results] +
The question mark is there for Typhoon because this guy doesn't know what race he wants to play! Seems like he switches every week, and no, he's not Random. It seems he played Terran for this Bo3.

I was not around to witness this series, so I don't know how these games went. Typhoon on his A-game is a scary thing, and it seems he brought it, because he was able to secure a 2-0 victory.

ETLTyphoon wins 2-0.

SouL vs ViTaL
+ [Results] +
ViTaL is another player soon to be ! He has loads of potential but unfortunately was not able to show it here because SouL's internet troubles kept him from playing this match, leading to a walkover for ViTaL.

ViTaL wins W/O.

ETLHalt vs TidaL
+ [Results] +
Despite TidaL's unfortunate demotion to at the start of the season, it shouldn't be long before is up frollicking amongst the again. Halt is a player who apparently doesn't like to ladder, but he has VERY high skill and is a consistently great performer in ETL's clan wars. So who would win in the battle of ETL's two best Protosses?

In Game 1, Halt opened with his trademark 3 stalker into warp prism harass into colossus build. Fortunately for TidaL, he correctly predicted this, and sought to take advantage of Halt's predictability with a phoenix opening. Unfortunately, his phoenixes fail to spot the warp prism and Halt is able to do good damage with zealot warp-ins. When Halt scouted TidaL's expansion, he elected to push and was able to defeat TidaL, taking the 1st game.

Something smelled awfully cheesy in the 2nd and 3rd games of the series, and indeed, TidaL was able to defeat Halt in the 2nd game with a proxy 2 gate. However, Halt returned the cheesy favor and defeated TidaL in game 3 with a cannon rush!

ETLHalt wins 2-1.

sRninja vs ADMachine
+ [Results] +
ninja says he hasn't been playing his best recently, and also has issues dealing with Terran players. ADMachine is a Terran, unfortunately for ninja, and also three leagues above him. I did not spectate this series, but ninja was frustrated following the games.

ADMachine wins 2-0.

Soundwave vs ChowMuddha
+ [Results] +
Well, now I get to talk about myself, I guess. My opponent was the super nice guy, ChowMuddha. Game 1 I played quite absent-mindedly and sloppy. My macro ZvT has not been the strongest recently. Chow did an old school marine/tank push that actually killed my 3rd and did pretty decent damage, due to my greed. However, he failed to push into my natural and tech at an opportune time and I sent a Zergling runby into his base, devastating his economy. With an overlord dropping creep at his 3rd, he did not bother to kill it and his push became quite all-in. I was able to create a ling/infestor/ultra force off two bases and crush through his marine/tank force, forcing ChowMuddha out of the game.

Game 2 I went for a roach/ling all-in. As I said, this swiss tournament is also meant to help promote a real tournament mentality and an oftentimes intelligent thing to do in a tournament series is go for an all-in. My roach/ling all-in was able to catch him off guard and force him out of the game. Chow was rather upset about his losses, but judging from his recent words, he is inspired to make big improvements to his play and as with Branno, make by the new year.

Soundwave wins 2-0.

Next Week

http://challonge.com/etlswiss

Next week has many exciting matches, such as ETLTyphoon vs ETLHalt and Soundwave vs ViTaL. Typhoon does not have a positive W/L vs Halt, but Typhoon seems to be quite strong recently. Is it enough to defeat the mighty Halt?

ViTaL has never defeated me (I think the score is 3-0 for me) but the games between us are always close. With my ZvT personally feeling like it's actually gone down a bit, and ViTaL constantly improving, there may be a strong possibility of an upset here.

DeeCN vs Chupacabraj is another good one. With Chupacabraj fresh off defeating his Diamond opponent Luckyshyt in Week 1, he will be going for another impressive Diamond scalp in DeeCN.

That wraps up this ETL Update. See you all next time.
