Welcome to the WD general thread. It would be great if we could get a list of all the WDs on sc2sea. If you would like to be added please leave your details (character name - level - progress - battletag/real id) below. Us witch doctors are a fairly rare breed of D3 player at the moment, so it would be great for everyone to get to know each other, so we can start sharing hints/tips, general information, and tales of glorious victory! This is the place for anything WD specific, to whine about certain stuff, and all the "low content" talk that doesn't deserve a thread of its own
General Information
Witch doctors are spiritual warriors who summon dead souls and crawling creatures to do their bidding. By surrounding themselves with conjured zombies and vermin, witch doctors are free to assault their enemies with exploding skulls, acrid poison clouds, and wasting curses.
The ability to infect, slow and terrify their enemies gives witch doctors unprecedented control over a battlefield. They can manipulate opposing attacks and movements with debuffs and crowd control spells, rendering enemies easy prey for hungry pets. Witch doctors can also lay down fields of fire and venom that slowly leech life from advancing foes.
Although some witch doctors avoid melee combat in favor of augmenting their pets and crippling their enemies from afar, they are also more than capable of slaying weakened foes with their own hands.
I came upon this rare display as I ventured deep into the interior of the dense Torajan jungles that cover the southern tip of the great eastern continent, in the vast area known as the Teganze, with the goal of seeking out the tribes that reside there. This area is extremely secluded, and heretofore unseen by foreign eyes. I was fortunate to befriend the witch doctor I saw in battle, and, through him, his tribe: the Tribe of the Five Hills.
The culture of the umbaru of the lower Teganze is fascinating and perplexing to those hailing from more civilized walks of life. For instance, the Tribe of the Five Hills frequently engages in tribal warfare with both the Clan of the Seven Stones and the Tribe of the Clouded Valley, but these are matters of ritual and not of conquest. I had heard tales that these wars are waged in order that the victors may replenish their supply of raw materials for the human sacrifices that their civilization revolves around, and when I timidly asked my hosts more about this topic, I must admit their laughter made me fear for my safety. However, through stumbled attempts at communication of such complex topics as what constitutes heroism and honor in their society, I gathered that only those taken in battle are considered worthy of the ritual sacrifice, much to my relief.
Upon further discussions with my hosts, I discovered that these tribes define themselves by their belief in the Mbwiru Eikura, which roughly translates to "The Unformed Land" (this is an imprecise translation, as this concept is completely foreign to our culture and language). This belief holds that the true, sacred reality is veiled behind the physical one we normally experience. Their vitally important public ceremonies are centered upon sacrifices to the life force that flows from their gods, who inhabit the Unformed Land, into this lesser physical realm.
The witch doctors are finely attuned to this Unformed Land and are able to train their minds to perceive this reality through a combination of rituals and the use of selected roots and herbs found in the jungles. They call the state in which they interact with this other world the Ghost Trance.
Alongside the primacy of the belief in the life force and the Unformed Land, the second most sacred belief of the tribes is their philosophy of self-sacrifice and non-individuality, of suppressing one's self-interest for the good of the tribe. This idea, so foreign to our culture, struck me as something I wished to delve into much more deeply.
Unfortunately, there was intense social upheaval among the tribes due to an incident involving their most current war (inasmuch as I could discern in the ensuing bedlam), and the charged atmosphere warranted my quick departure before I could ask anything further of my hosts. - Abd al-Hazir
Patch Notes Concerning WDs: No retail patches yet.
PS: Not sure if other people died at NM Diablo, but after dying about 3x on phase 3, I decided to change my build and change my gear around a bit:
I used the healing Imp, my Gargantuan, Haunt, Walk, and Darts as my main spells. The Imp made a huge difference for healing and it also distracted the adds and even diablo every now and again. For me the only difference was swapping out my acid cloud for the imp.
My other issue was getting one shotted after getting caught by the bone cage - esp if diablo has fire going on the ground at the same time or I was caught at not full health. I dropped some of my dps items (2 rings) and replaced them with blue rings I got from the AH that each gave 20 resist to all (so 40 in total). The one I paid 8000 and the other maybe 5000 or something. I tried another game like this and just 40 resistance made a huge difference. I still died though really close to the end of phase 3. I then changed one of my items for bit extra vitality, and finally I got him down. I think I had about 14k health, 40 resist all, and about 1800 dps for the last fight (at level 50).

For the level 58 witchdoctors who want to hit 60 fast, here's a great way to farm the remaining two levels. (I cleared my entire lvl 59-60 exp bar in under a hour)

I found a decent way to farm xp/rares in late hell mode for WDs that I figured I would make a post on
- Bears are the primary skill (it's hell and we're killing tons of squishies)
- Rain Dance BBV for literally non-stop spamming
- Jaunt Spirit Walk for invincibility
- Siphon Soul Harvest juuuuuust incase we mess up and need some HP (also lets you just stand there and heal up a lot easier)
- Legion of Daggers Fetish Army is just my personal preference, go with whatever Fetish Army rune you want really
- Face of Death Horrify for a little bit of added defense just in case
- Grave Injustice passive is why this is borderline exploiting (everything, including BBV and Fetish army, is virtually instantly off cooldown)
- Vision Quest for our mana
- Pierce the Veil for increased dmg, since we have infinite mana
SO, on to the good stuff.
We're farming Iskatu, the little mini-boss guy who you encounter virtually upon entering act 4, so, load up act IV "Fall of the High Heavens", switch in these skills, and prepare for some easy farming.
Step One: Go to the boss portal, which takes about 10 seconds to get to, and about 10 seconds of dialogue to listen to (hint:you can skip the Imperius dialogue by casting town portal as soon as Tyrael starts speaking, then porting back)
Step Two: Skip the boss dialogue, at which point he will send all those shades down at you; catch 5 with your Soul Harvest, and go to the bottom right corner of the arena
Step Three: Blow all your Cooldowns, BBV, Fetish Army, Everything, and start shift clicking Zombie Bears - stuff will come at you from the left, then from the top as the shades start to pile up
Step Four: At this point, the boss will walk over to you. Just zombie bear click him and continue to spam all your abilites - due to our first passive, you will have everything off cooldown quite quickly, so keep spamming it to keep VQ up - you should be virutally invincible because of siphon/jaunt, and you may also be able to cast BBV/Fetish Army multiple times within a short period - pay attention to BBV/Fetish Army, they can stop you from having VQ up if you aren't paying attention
Step Five: Boss will disappear, go find him and continue spamming bears, and all abilites as they come instantly off cooldown - you can target the boss directly at this point, and well as during step four - you only need to shift click during step three
Step Six: Boss dies, collect loot, exit game, reload - the whole process should take about 2-3 minutes, and you get lots of gold, a few blues, and 60k or so xp per run
Tips: Don't stand in the fire, you can still take a !@#$load of damage and die. Also, the boss can be feared if you misclick and are about to die
Lemme know if anyone else has a quicker way to farm xp/gold at this level (58 or so) - I'd love to hear it!
Edit: Not quite in Inferno yet, so if somebody tries this, please let me know the results!
Haha the dual enchantress thing was funny. Too bad you can't keep two for terribly long
I've started two witch doctors on hardcore and lost both to disconnects, but I definitely enjoy playing the class and will start another (not sure if HC/SC) at some point...

First of all, awesome post!
There's a total of 2102500 experience between levels 58 and 59 and for me each run offered 25600 experience. That's 83 (82.1289) runs total. And you still have another level to go after that which will likely have an even larger amount of experience required. If you can stand fighting Iskatu over 170 times good luck to you .

I see WD as being a very viable and exciting HC class to play and will be trying it after i finally get to 60.
The survivability that is possible with WD is really good, you can basically kite forever and escape at any time if things get too hairy.

My biggest fear is viability with pets into late Hell/Inferno.
I have Sacrfice with the 'Next of Kin' rune (35% chance of resurrecting the dog), the passive that allows deaths to summon dogs and Confusion with the chance to summon dogs. Intent is to spamsacrifice when required. If it is a bad fight I typically get to sac (4 dogs), sac (2 dogs on average), resummon and then sac again (4 dogs).
Sometimes it is hard to time when to optimally sacrifice but you do get a feel for it over time.
Using the Final Gift rune on the dogs means the dog turnover leads to lots of globes. That combos well with the Greusome Feast passive/
It's working fine where I am, haven't seen anything in Inferno which works that isn't completely bear-centric though.
About to kill belial but stopped playing a bit to level a hardcore character and died at 53 on Royal Audience lol... I use a poison dart build with locusts as aoe, wall of zombies, ghost, horrify and grasp for survival
