I am making this thread to get some feedback from the last SEA Clan League.
Please take notes that the final standings of SEACL season 2 will be used to make the placement of teams for next season.
It's an automated form, so you'll just have to click on the link below, fill the blanks and then it will be submitted directly to myself. I'll review all the comments, and will try to implement changes so next season will be better than last one.
I'll most likely admin the SEA Clan League season 3 unless you guys prefers another admin to handle it.
Did you enjoy playing in this Season SEAL? Yes we had fun!

Should there be team playoffs to decide the league champion? Yes, a playoff tournament would be better
Comments if any: (Optional) I think this should only apply for leagues where there is alot of teams and then the top 4 teams battle it out for positions or something along those lines.
If we could run only ONE competition, playoffs or SEA Cup, which of the two would you prefer? Playoffs
Comments if any: (Optional) -
Shoud there be a league restriction for Tier 3-5? Yes, players above a certain league at the season start should not be playing for the team.
Comments if any: (Optional) it's not exactly fair if one team has a master and they keep putting them in to win their games
Should we be more strict with postponement next season? i.e no postponement allowed, games have to be played on that day or a sub be used. Yes, the postponed matches aren't fair
Comments if any: (Optional) There is too much trouble with postponements. I think that they should be played on the day at the time they are organised for.
Do you have any other suggestions on how SEAL can be improved for next season? I think each league should have its own mini forum... or at least its own thread where everything about that league takes place. Its easier to check one area than have to scroll through many different areas. Also one unified rule set across all the leagues.

Comments if any: (Optional) Postponement should be within 1 week. Default day should be a weekday while default postponed day should be on weekends. More fair that way
What did you like/dislike the most? Like : 5 players can play!
Dislike : Postponed many games very troublesome.
What are your thoughts about the format to be implemented next season? Awesome.
Are you satisfied by admins'work? If not, what are your suggestions for us to improve? Admins are really awesome and kind. Just hope they update the table regularly(we dont blame them if they dont but will be better if they can )

Shoud there be a league restriction for Tier 3-5? No, no league restriction needed since its based on overall team strength.
Comments if any: (Optional) Team strength is the key, if a team can win 3/5 games per week just because of GM vs Gold players then they are probably in the wrong league
Should we be more strict with postponement next season? i.e no postponement allowed, games have to be played on that day or a sub be used. Yes, the postponed matches aren't fair
Comments if any: (Optional) A clearer rule should be emphasized to stop drama (eg ons vs nRv) and should be sided with the team that elects to show up on time.
What did you like/dislike the most? being told to reschedule because "x" player couldn't make it. Teams should be picking players on availability, if a player legitimately cannot make the time then don't pick them and ask for reschedule.
What are your thoughts about the format to be implemented next season? I like splitting it into clans/teams! I think if a player plays for their team that week then they cant play for their clan though and vice versa. Also I really like the removal of ace matches to remove draws as a team with a strong ace e.g AsG in t3 with Chobo was able to dominate despite having a weaker overall team (no offense to them)
Are you satisfied by admins'work? If not, what are your suggestions for us to improve? Yes and no. Overall the admins did a good job at keeping the tournament running smoothly. However I felt in disputes that they lacked the ability (in T2) to deal with the situation effectively and efficiently. For instance our games vs ons, the admins didn't seem to know how to mediate between both parties to get the facts. I felt that they tried to come to an agreement to make both parties happy without really looking at what the problem was. It then dragged into the thread and wasted ~8 hours when all they had to do was look at the facts, look at the rule and get the necessary information to make the ruling. If anything make the rules very clear cut and I'm not sure if you do already but write up a small thread on how they should be aiming to deal with disputes. Also they don't have to make a decision on the spot, if they cant come to an agreement or cant get the necessary info they can always wait until the next day.
Do you have any other suggestions on how SEAL can be improved for next season? Not really, last season was fun!

Did you enjoy playing in this Season SEAL? Yes we had fun!
Comments if any: (Optional) overall i really enjoy being involved in these leagues, they're the main motivation i have for improving at starcraft.
i would be happy to put my hand up as an admin for a division next season if you need one.
Should there be team playoffs to decide the league champion? Other
Comments if any: (Optional) non issue for me
If we could run only ONE competition, playoffs or SEA Cup, which of the two would you prefer? SEA Cup
Comments if any: (Optional) SEA Cup because it's all kill format. potentially do the bracket with MLG style seeding the better teams into later rounds to let the lower tier teams play each other in this format and have some fun seeing how far they can get through increasingly more formidable opponents .
Shoud there be a league restriction for Tier 3-5? No, no league restriction needed since its based on overall team strength.
Comments if any: (Optional) league restrictions would defeat the entire point of competing. this is the equivalent of a local basketball stadium putting restrictions on the height of players competing in their league. i would seriously consider not being involved if they are introduced.
Should we be more strict with postponement next season? i.e no postponement allowed, games have to be played on that day or a sub be used. Other
Comments if any: (Optional) in tier 1? yes, you're supposed to be showing SEA can do things professionally. in lower leagues reschedules are fine as long as they are arranged prior to match day, people would rather play than receive walkovers.
harsher/swifter penalties for teams/players no-showing to prevent repeats please.
What did you like/dislike the most? i got a chance to represent my clan. i got to learn a ton more about people in other clans and recognise way more of the people i hit on ladder because of this league
What are your thoughts about the format to be implemented next season? i prefer the all kill format. every game counts, everyone on the team gets to watch every game and there is no bullshit hassles with rescheduling players or no shows/subs. all-kill feels like two teams competing rather than pairs of individuals.
the proposed format looks as good as the one from last season. i don't mind draws being possible, the only downside being they make play-offs awkward (although the original plan was not to have play-offs)
the advantages of the pro league format are the ability to move individual games to suit schedules, and the ability to include 2v2 and/or 'ace matches' of some description.
last season has taught me being able to move players around is more hassle than it's worth. so the only way i would support a non all kill format is if you include 2v2.
Are you satisfied by admins'work? If not, what are your suggestions for us to improve? everything i saw from the admins was great. in general they were softer on people than i would have liked, but i can't really fault them for that.
Do you have any other suggestions on how SEAL can be improved for next season? league format:
i like swiss tournaments way more than round robin, can we do that? as in have everyone in 1 division and just do an 8 round swiss bracket. SASL seems to be running nicely otherwise...
make the divisions smaller. 8 teams in each maximum (i'd rather see 4 or 6). by the end of the season everyone involved was over it. also smaller divisions means less variation between the best and worst teams, and quicker promotion/demotion between divisions (due to shorter seasons) these combine to produce less whining.
make the divisions all the same size. tier 4 playing 2 matches a week 'to catch up to other divisions' was ******* stupid.
i have no ******* idea why the starting maps for every week were not declared before the competition began. more than once a round was delayed because an admin had been too busy to decide on and post them.
declaring players a few days before hand so people can prepare a match up is a nice idea, and probably worked for tier 1. in the lower divisions though there were no penalties given for late submission, admins posted the line-ups inconsistently (ie, whenever they came online and saw that both teams had submitted. sometimes 3 days before the match, sometimes as it was starting) and declaring 'this player will play' 3 days in advance triples the chance some last minute thing will come up preventing him from playing and **** up the whole system.
i get that it was based on the premier league soccer format, which is one of the most successfully run competitions in the world, but...
i'm not against draws being possible, but they need to be worth half a win. they're worth a third of a win in soccer to discourage boring play to kill the clock. there is no clock in star craft so this does not help, merely ruins the ladder.
this is australia, where people love finals for the sake of finals, but i would much rather see up/down matches as end of season 'this is where it counts' matches.
you decided halfway through the season to abandon the up/down match thing, which was actually the best way to do it in my opinion. having admins decide which team goes where (or just as bad, a point system based on leagues) every season denies any notion that a team can be more than the sum of it's players and reinforces the belief that you can tell how good someone is just by looking at their league icon or ladder points. (unless you actually think i'm better than chobo http://sc2ranks.com/div/271861/divis...ratul-november ) we had players listed in our line up as emergencies in case our main players couldn't show up that we didn't use at all, having them affect our division placement more than our performance as a team is ridiculous.
match format:
i talked about this in the question above, draws being possible doesn't work if you're going to have finals or up/downs.
eligibility:
have a clear rule and stick to it. the obvious choices are:
a) SEA resident/citizen only
b) a limit of x amount of 'foreigners' per team
c) teams can sign up and use any player they can convince (or pay) to play for them, wherever they're from. if SPR sign up 15 korean B team pros, or if the finals is EG vs slayers, so be it. no bitching will be tolerated.
not being clear on this before sign ups begin will obviously result in another debate about what players SPR is allowed to use, and any decision you make at that point will upset someone.

Comments if any: (Optional) It was a real blast and a great way to be introduced to this community. All my team mates had a lot of fun and everyone in Tier 5 was very friendly and supportive.
Should there be team playoffs to decide the league champion? Yes, a playoff tournament would be better
Comments if any: (Optional) We had a playoff in Tier 5 and it was fun to watch (although the delays mean its still not done, which is a shame as it really took the focus and excitment out of it). So I am happy with the playoffs. The only reason I wouldnt want playoffs is if it meant less SEACLs
If we could run only ONE competition, playoffs or SEA Cup, which of the two would you prefer? SEA Cup
Comments if any: (Optional) SEA Cup was a fun concept even if some of the games were lopsided. It might be better to make it so more teams are seeded further down though, so you dont have huge mismatches in the first few weeks.
Shoud there be a league restriction for Tier 3-5? Other
Comments if any: (Optional) Im on the fence here.. I definitely wouldnt want to see Diamond players playing in Tier 5, so I think there should be some level of restriction. But on the other if a team for instance enters and has 1 GM and the rest masters/diamond and gets put in Tier 3 and the GM cant play, that would suck...
Clans that have multiple teams should be able to easily sort this out however, by making sure to put the right players in the right teams.
Should we be more strict with postponement next season? i.e no postponement allowed, games have to be played on that day or a sub be used. Yes, the postponed matches aren't fair
Comments if any: (Optional) Im happy with allowing teams to reschedule, but all games should be played before the next round. Tier 5 did a fantastic job of this, so if we can, everyone else can
What did you like/dislike the most? Loved the community and the competition. There wasnt many dislikes... We had a few rough games, but they were dealt with fairly. I think we can be a bit more forceful with the rules in Tier 5 too. If a team doesnt turn up or is quite late without pre-arranging it, they should get a walkover. Its not fair on the guys who took time out of their day to play and had to wait around.
What are your thoughts about the format to be implemented next season? My only concern is less players needed in a lot of cases. It was hard enough trying to pick 5 players out of all the people ni my list and give everyone a go and try and win some games.. I assume we would look at custom rules at lower levels to? In tier 5 the lower league players play first rule was great, meant somewhat even matches.
Are you satisfied by admins'work? If not, what are your suggestions for us to improve? Yeah admins were really great! The playoffs for tier 5 have been a bit of a shambles and you can tell Chad and Maynarde are flat out, as the forum topics still reference old weeks and dates at times
But thats a really minor point, they were awesome!
Do you have any other suggestions on how SEAL can be improved for next season? My only concern presonally is the lower amount of players playing. We might have to enter two teams sine we are up to 17 members atm... We only had 10 during tier 5 and had atleast 6 ready to play each week, most times near all 10! So with 17, its gonna be hard to let everyone play

Shoud there be a league restriction for Tier 3-5? Yes, players above a certain league at the season start should not be playing for the team.
Comments if any: (Optional) Having league players above a certain league level allows you to sub-snipe matches. Keep it bracketed and keep it fair.
Should we be more strict with postponement next season? i.e no postponement allowed, games have to be played on that day or a sub be used. Yes, the postponed matches aren't fair
Comments if any: (Optional) We would have lost without reschedules, BUT, if it's outlined in the rules from the start, you shouldn't be playing in the league if you can't make the time. Might result in more walkovers but I had a game that was reschedules 2 or 3 times in a row >_<
What did you like/dislike the most? Hated getting the lineups last minute. It's good to know who you're up against for at least 48 hours.
Liked making it to the finals. :P
What are your thoughts about the format to be implemented next season? no comment
Are you satisfied by admins'work? If not, what are your suggestions for us to improve? Only thing I disagree with is the Admins belonging to a competing team. For example, a hard decision was made during the finals, that was made by the TA captain because he is also an Admin. Maynarde or another admin should have been present to make a fair and balanced decision.
Do you have any other suggestions on how SEAL can be improved for next season? Just if the above comments can be addressed
