Hi all, first Blog, im more of a lurker than poster/blogger plus that lurker detected icon... freakin cute!
anyway decided to make this as ive been back into sc2 after a substantial break, getting more into seacl and the mentality and rewatching old interviews new interviews and dailies that i like day9 dailys derp.
now i love day nines approach, there isnt good or bad, leagues dont matter(to an extent) theres no right or wrong way to play the game, the game only knows wins or loss and this is essentially true, however you win, you win regardless, cheese, all in, a weird style, or abusing mechanics of a race as you see, essentially cheesey all ins 4 gates and bane busts etc abusing the mechanics of a race using a particular thing like warpgates and lavae to the fullest and deal critical damage at an instant.
now i say this as after having come back i find im at previous skill and even surpassing it, being plat on the verge of diamond before i left and beating players that or higher, im able to once again do that, i find things are still similar though, where as i can be amazing one day, match GM's in my clan and feel awesome, then go back to ladder and lose to an all in i spotted coming from a gold.
i mention all this seeming inconsequential crap so you know where im at and what im capable of in my high and capable of in my lows, many of us have this, hell it may be my high day but it sure isnt theirs when one of these caliber players loses to me, fair enough as that may be shit happens either way as mr abbott will gladly tell you.
SO mentality regarding strats leagues etc, leagues i beleive ive proved to myself mean f-all, i practice not on ladder i play maybe 3 games a day i go to top of my division i fall back down all in a week or a day, no matter, peep modes and customs, i will get maybe 20+ games in those a week for practice against higher caliber players with mixed results, play the best to get better, good philosophy in my mind, people will say oh if your good you will make it through leagues easy, i find this incorrect, ill admit i let a gm practice on my account recent with his offrace terran, my main so he might only be daimond/masters with it but hey still good to watch see how he practices and to my surprise, despite being gm having good mechanics good knowledge a better player in my mind lost to people at my level whether slightly above or beleow either way, i lose all the time here i expect it, so i was dazed. the difference between leagues to me is irrelevant for this reason even the best can be toppled by a lesser player at their best or them being at their worst. shit happens.
i find this the same with styles or 'builds' its no secret i make of my love of mech, my micro is shocking i cant split to well or stutter step well, mech suites me, slow, methodical, fun for me sometimes i use bio depending how i feel. but i play mech vs all races and i hear from zergs mech OP after games, i hear from everyone else 'what even vs toss" its shit!' now once again the game knows winning or losing not good or bad builds, ive choked out master/gm players in customs, Lemminks isnt bad, tcp joke gm he admits it! but solid enough player, better than me by far ill cop that, i meched in a custom, he knew it was coming id done it to other toss's in this custom and won/lost respectively, its bad easily countered yada yada whether i was good or he was half asleep i won... game knows winning. i did it.
i do it because its fun i play customs with clanmates and friends as more fun to vs someone better gain insight and improve and a laugh on skype rather than ladder alot of the time to me, i like mech or use weird plays because their fun even if widely acknowledged to be bad even by people that use the build etc!
if your a lower league and want improve don't panic about ladder is my message, if you like doing something people tell you is terrible but your winning and having fun screw it keep doing that even if its all ins or playing standard to the letter! before i took a break i went through gsl games and watched bitbybit and wrote all of them down and did nothing but bitbybit all ins!
have fun, play to win whatever the means, and screw leagues if you improve, all that will come eventually!
leave hate, leave praise i wrote this bored at work, TCP HWAITING! sorry its so long had a lot of thought about both of these topics. im bad i admit it despite who i beat and when, i just like getting to tease them about losing to a bad, lemminks
Re: SC2 Mentalities toward leagues and good and bad.
You can be better at certain aspects of the game than others. If you can match a gm clan-mate in a standard game where you know what's happening then maybe you have a solid understanding of your build order and somewhat decent mechanics. But if you can't break out of a lower league due to cheese then you obviously have gaping holes in other areas such as scouting, reacting, being able to think on the fly and understand the game from a multitude of different scenarios.
To truly be a gm-level player you need to recognise your weak points and bring them up to the level of your stronger areas. It is true that league and method of winning shouldn't matter to your mentality from a mindset perspective, but it is a good general guideline of where you sit.
Re: SC2 Mentalities toward leagues and good and bad.
play for fun always important! probably by the the most but there will be plenty of people who have spectacular on days and great off days i have beaten other GM's not in my clan so i can kind of say well this and that but yes strong areas and weak areas need to be in harmony i havnt achieved that my main point is ladder points, league, and losing to stupid shit on ladder isnt the greatest measure of skill by any means and you should look for a deeper method of evaluating your improvements over the course of a week or month!
some have said and i agree to an extent that the ladder, a bo1 game between you and another will mean next to nothing and instituting a bo3 match system would be more appropriate but A thats an hour worth of play for one opponant and B not as accessable to casuals!
but none the less thanks for reply i strive to improve as all players should and always have fun!@
