Well I think it’s probably safe to say this is my first blog that I have written so hopefully I can make it turn out fairly decent. I’ve made myself a solemn promise, I will be writing one of my these every 1-2 weeks, to just throw out my perspective on things and just my inner thoughts. So here goes nothing.
I wanted to talk a little bit about the community’s joint effort that really made a positive impact in helping Paro through difficult circumstance. When I first raised the idea within the ToR Facebook group, it was something along the lines of “Hey guys, why don’t we organise a 24 hour stream in order to see if we can raise some money for Nick and his surgery?”. The response seriously gave me a really warm and positive feeling. From the word go, about 10 – 15 of the ToR lads were like “When do you want me to stream?” or “I can chip in a bit after my payday to help out”. Then the Sc2sea community really got involved even further with the Frenetic Array crew organising a Charity Raffle to help raise some more support for the cause and PiG/NXZ volunteering to stream some segments to help out with the stream.
This is probably one of the reasons why I have stayed around so long in StarCraft and Sc2sea, just the people in this community are mostly always willing to get involved and help out where they can. At times it doesn’t always feel that way, but these gestures, these acts of real community spirit always remind me that we have one hell of a fantastic community out there. It always makes me grateful when I think, “This is a community that I have been a part of for the last couple of years (: “ and even to think that ToR has turned into something that I am exceptionally proud of, I could probably go on for months about them all T_T.
With the first month of January coming to a close, I thought it would be kinda cool to have a bit of a think about what we could see coming from players across this year (Although nothing as distinct as a list of player ranks >< I am way too chobo (Biased) for that one ^^)
Players that I am looking forward to seeing in 2013:
Delete: Always have had a lot of respect for Dan, with finishing Year 12 last year, I think it will truly be his time to dedicate a lot of his energies to his play and judging by how well he has been doing so far :P I might not be too far off, but yeah really excited to see what Delete has in store
Pox: With the move to Canberra coming up in the next couple of weeks, I think it is going to be pretty dam exciting to see more opportunities coming up for the old man this year. Studying in Canberra, might mean that NSW will be getting another class Zerg taking on City Hunter and Sydney comps. As well as going head to head with team mate Dano, for the title of ACT.
Petraeus: Jesus dude, I have seen such a large amount of growth from the point that I remember telling you that you were that one step away from SEA Gm. Without a doubt last year was your breakout year. Attending international tournament such as TGS, EB Expo and that European one, whose name escapes me. It is insane to think what you are capable of achieving this year.
MightyKiwi: I’ve been hearing and seeing some really great results so far from MK and I am increasingly looking forward to seeing how this Zerg fits into the grand scheme of New Zealand StarCraft and also for his team.
DanO/XzaM: Both of these lads have been doing exceptionally lately across Online/Team competitions, this year will be a great opportunity for them both, as both of them are yet to attend their first lans. With Cancraft coming up this February, I personally am so psyched to see how well Dan does (Non – Biased #1 DanO fan )
Pezz: (Sigh* I swear this is the last ToR one) I have had great admiration for Pezz, in similar regards to Fenner/Satu, this year will be his to focus his energies into his eSports career, with his team mates and the support of Avant, you will be seeing a lot more of Pezz this year across events in Aus.
NXZ: Over the last few weeks, across Brisbane and online tournaments, NXZ has begun to look so scary in his play. Recently achieving NA Gm is a pretty big milestone in his development, I really am excited to see what Ryan can do this year, not only within Brisbane, but hopefully across the other regional tournaments as well.
I think that is enough for my first Blog, because I don’t remember what I wrote in half of it .
Thanks for reading guys and girls, much love and last but in no means the least, ToR Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiighting
Spartaz is the 2nd nicest person I've talked to online. (Obviously delete is 1st that guy is a man amongst children). The charity stream was awesome and I am so happy that so much was raised for paro. That's SO amazing and I'm very proud to be a part of the community and able to help out. Glad that pig and I could help out, it was a lot of fun and all for a very good cause. ToR
Also I have a distinct memory of petraeus sending that real ID message, "first time I got top 50 gm!" And only shortly after reaching gm in the first place.
Also Nick dont feel bad in promoting your own players, ToR has some of the strongest potential right now and I hope they really start to shine in 2013! Fighting!
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.
