Missed a couple of months of SC2 because of exams/holiday work/skyrim, so on coming back I've decided to switch from Zerg to Random.
Pro's
Being able to enjoy the episodes of Day9 that don't talk about Zerg
Immune to people complaining about the race I play
I feel like I'm missing out on 2/3rds of SC2. Can't have that.
Con's
Have to pay attention to all the episodes of Day9 that don't talk about Zerg
I can no longer complain about the other races
I have to learn about the other 2/3rds of SC2 that so far I've been able to summarily ignore.
Had a few ladder games this afternoon, and I'll be continuing into the night because hot damn, playing random is fun.
PvP vs OpenWide
Pfft, PvP is simple. You just 4gate.
...how the hell do you 4gate?
So I end up stumbling my way through what I think mostly resembles a 4gate build order, and promptly forcefield my own Zealots outside my ramp.
Somehow I pull through that, and realise I have no idea what to do next. I heard Blink Stalkers are pretty good though, so I build a Twilight Council and proceed to Chronoboost the snot out of Blink research.
Turns out Blink Stalkers are pretty good. GG, and my first win as a Random player. Feels good man.
ZvT vs cArubiM
Zerg. Snore.
The guy tries a Hellion/Marauder expand with little to no early pressure, which I didn't even know was a thing. It shouldn't be a thing. Here's why:
Yeah. GG.
TvP vs ATG
Guess I'll make Marines and Marauders. And then um. Medivacs. Yeah.
Not trying any fast expand shenanigans with Terran or Protoss just yet, so I just make a whole heap of Barracks off one base.
So that kinda worked, but didn't kill him. Better expand and make some Medivacs. I scout Robo tech and doubt that he's making Immortals, so I pop out some Vikings to kill the Collossi I believe are coming.
Demonstrated above is a good example of one of the many 'WHAT THE HELL DO I DO NOW' moments I anticipate will be occurring frequently. Needless to say, losing my entire army to Storms was GG in my opponent's favour.
Playing Random is all sorts of fun. I thoroughly recommend it, and will be hitting up PiG for lessons on all three races at some point in the future.
Cheers yo
