So, week 2. I know, I know, it hasn’t been a full week. “Hellfyre we’re sick of hearing from you”, you’ll say. Well, Tuesday was going to be my official day to post this blog anyway, I was just a little excited about posting the last one so I posted it early. From now on, Tuesday is the day that this little blog will arrive to the eyes of all of you sc2sea.com frequenter’s out there.
So, what’s got me so worked up that I’ve posted two blogs in one week? If you want to find out, just skip straight down to the teasers (which are not at all cryptic anymore). If you want to read a little bit about the week just gone, open up the spoilers to your hearts’ content.
Oh the Thursday cup. Well this one was particularly interesting. Names lighting up the stage included deth, Santi, Shortizz, Ninja and Yang. However this cup was almost not to be. There is a 16 player minimum on the Go4SC2 Cups, and with many players travelling around Australia at the moment competing in the WCG qualifiers, numbers have been dropping dangerously low. Luckily, some of the players in the cup managed to scrounge up a few extra numbers, and with a perfect number 16 players the cup got underway.
At the end of the night, one was left standing. He has become synonymous with the Go4SC2 Cups, competing in the majority of them. The recently “aLternative’d” (defn: to become a member of aLternative) Ninja took the top spot from Santi, who had knocked out deth in the semis.
Congratulations to Ninja, who played good games to win the night.
Sunday, bloody Sunday. What else can I say about you. With the SC2SEA masters cup running at almost the same time, we lost numbers, however it was a still a great and competitive tourney. It was nice to see some new faces get in on the act, as well as some of the old ones.
After having dropouts without warning, disconnects midgame and a couple of players dropping out due to the masters cup, the cup went for 4 hours and my patience was running very thin. RedArchon and Cobo had been stellar, and had waited patiently while their opponents finished, and then eventually lost. However I will halt the whining there.
A standout of the night was RedArchon who roflstomped his way through to the final without a single loss under his belt. It was there he met Cobo, and there that I saw some brilliant play from both players.
RedArchon played a brilliant macro game, fast expanding in every match. Cobo matched him by fast expanding. Admittedly the first maps were fast-expand friendly, but when matched up against RA one would think to try and do something different to him. Not Cobo. Instead of changing macro tactic, he decided to stay the same and mass sentry/immortals with a few stalkers.
All praise goes to RA who won the night 3-1 over Cobo, but the play of the night has to be in game three, where some of the best FF micro I have ever seen helped a smaller Cobo army destroy an RA army that was in place in defence. he managed to funnel the MMM ball down three different channels, and let the immortals do the rest. Bravo Cobo, Bravo.
There is a link to the replays in the links section below.
Still, Congratulations to RedArchon, who won the $75 and the points.
Teasers... Up and Coming... Could it be?!?! (No longer cryptic)
Back by unpopular demand, the teasers. I won’t make this weeks ones cryptic, however if you did actually like the cryptic ones then I can always bring them back. Also, these dont match up against last weeks' ones, so dont try. haha
Since they’re no longer cryptic I spose I should add this to be on the safe side.
Disclaimer: None of the things mentioned below are guaranteed to happen, however likely they may be. Nothing said below should be taken at face value and you should not rely in any way on the information provided.
1/ IEM NY is coming up soon... Qualifiers must be approaching surely? Keep an eye out for an announcement today and possibly keep your weekend free....
2/ Did anyone that is reading this compete in the 2v2 Tuesday last month? Yes? No? Well... this might be back by popular demand.
3/ This blog might eventually become a vod.. an official ESLSEA news vod... Thoughts?
Told you this one wouldn’t be as long as the last one. Hopefully this was as informative and entertaining as the last one was, or more... if you weren’t entertained or informed by the last one...
If you have any interesting news about the SEA region, feel free to PM me about it, I’d love to hear all the interesting stuff happening in and around the community.
