Hi, I’m Daehfeurd, better known here as Potthead, and I edit and produce content at Exile5. I also haven't posted here in yonks, so hello to everyone again!

For the last couple weeks, I’ve been playing this really unknown and not very much talked about game called GTA V. This blog will be about my experiences so far.

I’ll begin with how I enjoyed the campaign. I’ll do this without giving away information as I don’t wanna ruin it for those who haven’t played it all the way through yet. The campaign for me was really enjoyable. Being someone who never used to play games for the campaign, I’m starting to really have a lot more fun on them, even playing campaign when I could be playing a multiplayer element of a game. What I liked about this campaign particularly was the way the story seemed to flow really well. When it got off track, it was usually Trevor taking it that way, which is how his character was set up. How many times have you switched to using him when not doing a campaign mission and he’s just lying somewhere, drunk and in his underwear? I loved how each character was integrated into each other’s lives for the first time. When you see Trevor for the first time after the first mission, it’s certainly an experience.

The heists for me are good fun; it’s not just a case of getting a heist out of the blue and completing it. They’re also not constantly happening. There’s a suitable “cool-down” period I’ll call it, where you can imagine they’d need to lie low and sell what they stole and that sort of thing. You can sort of tell when a heist is coming, and then you get to choose the way in which you want to do the job, generally stealthy or not so stealthy, as well as go get supplies, be it getaway cars or disguises or weapons. Finally you pick your heist crew. Do you want a really experienced crew but take less of a cut, or are you going to risk bungling it just for more money? Personally I picked the stealthy options on my heists, even if it did mean mopping the floor in one of them. I picked decent crew members for the important roles, then less desirable ones if it wasn’t really required, so I got a good amount of money.

Obligatory Explosion Picture.

Where to put this hard earned money you ask? There’s property for sale around town, such as your own airport hangar, helipad or marina, or maybe even a movie cinema or golf course. The properties generate income for you as well, so eventually you can get the money back. The most expensive property is the golf course, coming in at a whopping $150 million. To get to this much money will be difficult, but I am trying my best by playing the in-game stock market. My Cool Beans stock at the moment has had a massive fall and so I have made around 10 million on my Michael character by buying low and selling high. This has allowed be to buy the Tivoli cinema and earn 146k per week in the game. You can also use the internet on your in-game phone to purchase exotic cars or stunt airplanes, or even a tank! Having seen gameplay of someone in the tank I really want to do this, but playing the stocks with all 3 characters is too much fun and my money is always invested in that.

My favourite car in the game is the Coil Voltic, which I think is the second fastest car in the game though I’m probably wrong, so don’t quote me. It’s an electric so I can go for quiet, superfast drives down the highway and listen to my favourite radio station, Rebel Radio.

In GTA IV I loved Liberty Rock Radio but, while Los Santos Rock has some good songs, rock on IV kicks V’s butt. Rebel Radio is a country station with artists like Johnny Cash and Jerry Reed on it, so it’s good fun stealing a semi-trailer and cruising down the street blasting some country. It even has the song ‘Convoy’ on it, which makes me think of ‘The Simpsons’ every time I hear it.

The awesome radio wheel.

Even after completing the campaign there’s a ton of things to do. Another set of missions, called Strangers and Freaks, are available to play, some of which are incredible funny to play through. There’s also a few triathlons to complete, the longest of which is 27 minutes, which a friend of mine has a best time 2 tenths of a second faster than mine in. This has caused me to do this triathlon way too many times trying to beat his time. Other things like rampages with Trevor or midnight races as Franklin can also be loads of fun.

This Tuesday just gone, multiplayer was released. GTA IV multiplayer was always hilarious to play with friends and so I can’t wait to have more fun. However, there’s talk of micro-transactions existing in multiplayer, with cash cards able to be bought through the game. Personally I feel this will suck as my crew and I just want to go around killing and stealing for our money like any good, honest human being does, while others can just pay what will probably be a few dollars and instantly have 1 million in-game dollars to play with. I think it could potentially ruin the online experience for a lot of people who won’t want to spend money on a game and so maybe not be able to progress as far as a 12 year old with his mum’s credit card. However, I know nothing about this sort of thing and so it could also turn out great. Let’s hope!

My crew originally wanted to be called BMX Bandits and ride around on push bikes performing robberies and ride-by shootings, but the name was taken. Now we are called 2MUCHSWEG because I feel a lot of people will get un-necessarily angry at us for it, which for some reason makes me enjoy playing a lot more than if we had a normal name.

Next week I will talk about my experiences over the first week of multiplayer. Hope you enjoyed this one and will continue to read my next ones. Feel free to post your thoughts if you have played this as well, would love to chat!

Big thanks to Team Exile5 and their sponsors, Western Digital, Nvidia, Cooler Master and CM Storm. Without their support none of us would be anywhere and it means a lot to carry the tag.

Re: GTA V Thoughts: 2 Weeks In

I'm liking GTA V atm, it's a really fun game. Good variety in the radio stations (although I would have liked a sick electronic one or personalized radio like in GTA Vice City on PC). Map size is colossal. I feel like it's America in a nutshell lol. I've heard that more heists would be good (Although I've only done 3) and I'm excited to see what Rockstar bring with multiplayer and I'm hoping there's so much to do once the main story is finished.

I haven't played GTA 4 or San Andreas so I don't have much to compare to, but I can definitely see the improvement made within 10 years compared to Vice City or GTA III and it's astounding.

Also dat sponsor plug made me think of my own sponsors Vroomvroomvroom, Arabon aka TickTax and Dejan SEO hmm wonder why...

(much love )

The online isn't working great at the moment, but it definitely has huge potential. Really enjoying GTA V, it's sadly pulled me away from SC2 for a bit but I'm about to finish the singleplayer and that will free up some time. Best GTA yet, IMO.
