A quick blog entry about my continuing coaching with AsG_Chobo and how I am travelling reaching my goals in relation to starcraft.
Firstly, i booked my second lesson with Chobo, at which time my PC promptly decided it wanted a new PSU (2 months out of warranty, it is almost as if they plan it that way), so $200 and 5 days off sc2, and i am back for my second lesson. Chobo took the rescheduling like a boss, he was so understanding and given that i had booked the time (and i could only advise him like 3 hours before the time), i feel he would have been within his rights to take payment for the lesson. But he didn't as he is a baws
This time, we focused on what is quickly becoming my least favourite matchup - TvZ. No matter which side of the battle you are on, this matchup seems to be hated after the 20 minute mark by both races, with both claiming the other is OP. My problem with TvZ is that i have never had any plan other than to play a macro game, at which time the zergs that beat me go Broodlord/infestor into Ultras, which I always found a pretty tough tech switch to play against. But then again, I am only in plat and suck pretty hard.
I spoke to Chobo about this problem, and he gave me his thoughts on the TvZ matchup and late game - and promptly taught me a timing attack. It may seem strange that you get coaching to learn timing attacks, but as a generally macro player that doesnt have time to trawl through TL to decipher the GM strats from those posted by Gold players with "great game knowledge", this is really beneficial.
So now i have a really solid plan for TvT (maco build), and TvZ (timing attack), and have an alright strike rate in TvP. The results have been great so far, with me being about 70% win rate over the last 35 games. Given that my opponents are getting harder as i am winning more, keeping this win percentage would be fantastic.
The thing i am enjoying most is that if i have a problem i just shoot off an email and it comes back really quickly with a punchy no-frills response. If you need to be babied, Chobo isnt the guy for you - which is great for me.
Lesson three should be upcoming, so then I start dominating TvP, and hopefully earn that promotion to Diamond. I am doing pretty well at the moment, running at about 40-50% against the diamonds i play against on ladder, just need to get it a touch higher to earn that promotion. I said i wanted diamond before the end of the season - does anyone know roughly in how many weeks the season ends? I thought it started in early February, was it a 2 month season or 6 weeks?
In other Volition News:-
1) I was awarded Mr Manner achievement on this site, and was really stoked. sc2sea. However, my girlfriend thinks I will lose it within a month.
2) I have finally asked to join a team. As I havent been accepted (and may not be) I am not gonna go into any details. All i can say is that it isnt Invidia. I have never actually requested to join a team/clan in sc2 before (as there were strict requirements i was looking for), it is a bit exciting but at the same time a nervous wait! Sorry Zerocraft you may lose me for the next season of SEACL... but then again...
3) I am consistently losing all of my SEACL matches. it is ridiculous how much i am getting tooled at the moment. I am maybe 2-4 for the season. At least the people who are beating me are going on to beat other good players, and didnt just save their good luck for me.
JoFritzMD, you may have sponsored the whole tournament, but that doesnt mean you had to beat me last week. damn you!
quick blog entry done, tune in next time for the outcome of lesson 3 and how i am going through the season.

lol, 2-4 isn't that bad. i remember my record in the TA's internal clan league, i won my first game against yang and then lost the next 9 to players from grandmaster to gold and silver (not even joking here).

Great to see your results!!! I seem to see great results from all my students and am proud I can guide them through!!! It's not all about the money so much, I get greater satisfaction when I see the results my students produce. I would hate to cut coaching out of my life as I am pretty busy and am still trying to accomidate my students.
Yes I do answer my emails quickly, at this time I was at the zoo.
"If zerg makes roaches, which can be scouted by gas(see the extractor to see how much mined). Build marauder / bunker and then proceed with the timing attack" It was more blunt than that but I wanted to keep it simple so the concept was not debatable.
I am also offering heavily discounted rates AFTER a student purchases a coaching package as a courtesy and seeings most of the main content is covered this is just follow up and help improving.
