So I stumbled upon the 'Mods' thing and saw all the Awards you can give to people.. and thought to myself. Hmmm.. we should give out some more awards.

So without discussing with the rest of the mods, I thought why not make a post about Nominating people for particular awards.

Such as:

+ [Community Builder] +

For recognition to those who have built the Starcraft 2 SEA community into what it is today.

+ [Movie Star] +

A well established caster or streamer who has provided countless hours of entertainment for us viewers.

+ [The Gatekeeper] +

Awarded to dedicated members of the community who have taken the time to organise successful series of tournaments for the community.

+ [Cruel Entertainer] +

Has provided lots of entertainment to the community, usually at the expense of someone else. Awarded to characters who have spiced up the scene without crossing into the realm of douchery.

+ [Letters to Cleo] +

Awarded to the Scribes of SEA, who have produced quality content ranging from battle reports to articles or interviews.

+ [The Manner Man] +

Courteous to everyone and helpful to those in need, the manner man is a good role model and the epitome of pure manner, a rarity in todays idra infested world.

+ [There is no fate but what we make for ourselves] +

Awarded SC2SEA's Quality Member of the month! We love you how much you have contributed to our community and just want to let you know we appreciate it.

+ [Hero of the Day] +

Awarded to ordinary everyday members who in a singular instance ended up doing something extraordinary.

SoundWave for Letters to Cleo with the weekly SEA wrap up.
Crescendo for Letters to Cleo with his regular interview series (which I've quite enjoyed!)

etc etc... there are heaps of new and long standing members of our community that I feel should be recognised for some of the above awards.

I'd say the MODs will take all the nominations into discussion and decided on some awards!

As for my opinion, I agree with everything said in this thread (except the Fullmetal bullshit). I definately hope we can start making awarding these a more regular thing cause rewarding upstanding members is something that was lacking for a while (until the new wave of mods/MVP).

Maynarde once asked if I'd be willing to help out with the awards side of thing. Although I didn't hear anything further afterwards, I'm still happy to help out if the mod team needs a glorified secretary for badge assigning.

I wouldn't mind seeing this become a bit more private, like maybe an email submission or a web form that didn't display publicly. I just think it becomes a bit of a popularity contest... not necessarily a bad thing, but I just think awards are a bit more meaningful when say, 5 people take the time to submit someone's name after coming to the decision independently, rather than say one person posting on a thread and 9 people just agreeing that it's a good idea (not necessarily coming up with the idea that the person deserves to be awarded independently.

For a form, you could include a text box where people can say why they think someone is deserving, give links to example posts, etc

Or if you'd rather talk to another mod, I'm sure any of them would be happy to take your submissions into consideration. After ACL I'll try and stir up the mods into making some decisions about this..

The SC2SEA Admins response is 'yeah this is a good idea, I think you should go ahead with it' rather than selecting a few people themselves.. so I'll find some time to get all the nominations together and dish out a bunch of awards.

I'd also like to nominate Saulo for his contributions to the scene and donations to regular tournaments. What a baller he is!!
