teamiCHOR.net announces its first South East Asia tournament for StarCraft II, aptly named the iCHOR Open #1. iCHOR has a long and successful lineage within across Asia and Australia’s e-Sports gaming community, having supported competitive teams in Jakarta, Hong Kong, Taipei and Sydney. We plan to hold a couple of tournaments over the next few months, with a progressive increase in prizes.
The iCHOR Open #1 will take place on 20 March, 2011, and will be open to 64 players with a first place prize of $40.
Please read the following information carefully
Sign up: Go to our website http://www.teamichor.net/, create an account and then follow the prompts on the tournament tab. The tournament will be held on the 20th of March at 2pm GMT + 10 Sydney Time.
The Rules
The tournament will consist of 64 players in which will be a BO1 until the RO8. The rest of the tournament will be a BO3 until the finals which will be a BO5.
During the BO3 and BO5 rounds, the first map is mandatory with the loser of the first game being able to pick the second map and the loser of the second game picking the third map and so on. These maps must be chosen from the Map Pool below.
Please be on time as players who are late by 15 minutes from the start time will be disqualified and the opposing player will continue onto the next round. If you have applied for the tournament and would like to retract the application, please contact TALkori.830 or TAriiChard.272.
Refs and casters must be allowed into the game upon request. Spectators are allowed as long as both players agree but if observers lag or delay the game, they are required to leave.
Any anti-social behaviour such as bad manner is unacceptable and will result in disqualification. If you believe you are a victim of this please contact one of the administrators or myself. We will review the replay and make a non-biased judgement call on whether or not to disqualify the player.
Disconnects before 3 minutes game time will result in a rematch. If either player disconnects after 3 minutes, then the replay must be sent to teamichornet@gmail.com to be reviewed and we will judge whether or not the game would be replayed or give the win to the player with the advantageous lead.
Brackets will be randomized and posted up 5 minutes before the tournament starts.

Basically testing whether or not there's enough attention for the tournament (viewership and the amount of players joining). If there's enough interest then more tournaments will follow up.

Cheers, riiChard
Attention comes with prize pool, a $1,000,000 tourney will attract every single sc2 player in the world, whereas a $1 tourney will only attract those with nothing better to do.

Hi, I'm from teamiCHOR, have been running the team for the past 9 years and for the period between 2001 and 2005 managed PantheonES who offered logistic and tournament support (qualifiers, and finals) for World Cyber Games Australian events, CPL Australia events and in part ESWC events.
Benji you raise some good points, but when it comes to running competitive video gaming events I find that test events such as these are a good indicator of audience and competition know-how before you get into the 'serious game' of sponsorships and major prize pools. The cash prize comes from our pockets (lazyjai's specifically) and will be a launch pad into further events should we acheive some attention.
I have long lineage of eSports in Australia, having contributed greatly to Counter-Strike's movement during the early part of last decade, the WCG and CPL movements, but this would be my first foray into StarCraft (besides having relations with Legionnaire - I did not inhale). I can appreciate your skepticism Del, it's understandable and in my opinion needed within the industry, but I can assure you I have the best interests of the community at heart and would love to talk to you more about them should you want to.
Lol can an admin just delete dels post instead of editing it all the time!
i love you admins, especially you nirvana whos actually the only one doing all the editing and leaving no trace that it was edited like in this post.
you are the love of my life! (jaczie comes next)

Hey Hoss, 20th of march is the same day as the first qualifier for that Intime cybercafe LAN event with $25k. Might wonna change ur dates.
Just out of interest for you others there that dont know kalgo (hoss), what he meant by being apart of the community and helping out is for example: 2002 or 2003 during our stay in korea i asked kalgo whats the most advanced tactic for cs in detail and he replies... " Well, you know.. just shoot them and shit.. Like on aztec as terrorist send 2 to water and bomb the bridge room then head to the stairs while the other 3 push through the bridge room.. "
Much love Nick Memories of Korea creeping back, aka Soju-adventures... and those strats would be solid to this day if Aztec wasn't dropped as a competitive map!
Also... sorry about date conflicts, we knew we wanted it on a Sunday but finding the right Sunday became an issue, one we hope to avert in future comps by more thoroughly checking dates, offering longer lead times, and through consultation with players.
CONGRATULATIONS TO 1st place winner James, taking home $40 and runners up, Bosser who takes home a nifty $10.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in today's event, it was a great success. In particular, TAChampi, TAZain for casting and TAriichard for helping admin.
Stay tuned for future teamiCHOR event, with even bigger prize pools.
