Oh, is this real life? We have a non-Australian/NZ finals. This time, it's Singapore battling out against India for 1st place!
Protoss and Zerg have been dominated the SEA scene so far, and today is no exception. Lobo wins 2-1 over DemiLove after 2 rounds of walkovers and a 2-1 win over Wally! Well played to all players today!
I'd like to take a moment to give a statement regarding a rather "controversial" issue that happened today. Not really controversial, but because several people had thoughts differing from mine, I thought it would be nice to at least give an explanation instead of just letting it die off.
It begins with Soundwave facing against VeritaS in the Ro16, where VeritaS had disconnected somewhere in the middle of the series between the both of them. At this point, Soundwave asked if it counts as a walkover or not. I told him he had the discretion to either walk him over now, or just wait for VeritaS until he came back. Soundwave said give him 10 minutes, which I agreed on and VeritaS did come back before the 10 minute mark. The series ended up in a 2-1 win for VeritaS, and after that, VeritaS just told Lobo he had to go and Lobo was given the walkover to the Ro4.
So the issue here is, should Soundwave be automatically advanced to the Ro8 to play with Lobo instead of just letting Lobo get an easy walkover? Here is my reasoning for not letting that happen, and letting Lobo walkover to Ro4.
Since this is the matter of OSC points and if players do get to the finals, money, I had to respect to win of VeritaS and keep him in the Ro8. He deserved the points and advancement because he did end up winning against Soundwave (legitly). By right, he's allowed to do anything he wants from that point on. There was nothing wrong with him forfeiting after Soundwave, although I do agree it was really a douche move. I would have advanced Soundwave if VeritaS told me to give the spot to Soundwave, or if I asked him if the spot could be given to Soundwave instead and only if he agreed. But sadly, none of the two things happened.
I don't think it will be fair to discount VeritaS' win, even though many people felt it was a dick move and Soundwave should really have advanced. I've been exercising players' discretion a lot in Friday Fun Nights, some of you would know. I would always give you guys the choice to walkover now or to wait for your opponent to see if he will come back. I would never enforce the DQ unless really necessary. So I hope you guys know where am I coming from.
Thanks to everyone who participated again today. And special thanks to casters Metalcore and Chasu for bringing entertainment and fun tonight! Really hope everyone, be it viewers of the stream or the players, had some fun today one way or another. See you guys soon!
I think the judgement made was correct. However, I would go so far as to say that if a player has prior knowledge that they will not be able to compete for the entire duration of the tournament, that they should consider messaging an admin and pulling out of the tournament before the start time.

I would still feel that it's the player's integrity to know that he would be depriving others of a chance if he actually has the potential to go through half of the brackets and then forfeiting. We wouldn't know if VertiaS had an emergency to attend or not also. Maybe he did, and just had to pull out at Ro8. Maybe he didn't, and just wanted to make it to Ro8 so he get some OSC points. We will never know though.
